Retrofrogg
Looking for some info regarding the MAME software lists. I am looking to emulate plenty of systems but so far I only have a handful in LB, with the computer based ones using individual emulators and most of the consoles going through retro arch. What are MAME software lists, are they a better way to get into computer platforms emulation and are they compatible with Launchbox in any way? Thanks! Lordmonkus
Software lists are console and computer rom sets. When it comes to emulating computer systems I have found it vary one what the best way to emulate them are. Sometimes Mame is the best way while an individual emulator is better and sometimes on occasion RA is better. For example I find Amiga, Commodore 64 and Atari ST better to use a stand alone emulator but certain consoles such as NeoGeo CD, Colecovision and the FM Towns Marty and then the Sharp X68000 while is very good through Mame I find the Retroarch X68k core better. They are compatible with Launchbox and there will be a better import process for the software list to bring it more inline with the recent Mame importer Jason brought into LB.
Owls21
I found the guide for updating MAME romsets. Is there a good one for updating Software Lists?
Owls21
Well, I managed to get my sets updated. For those looking for a solution, I point the download to the old set, the download client performs a hash check and downloads everything else it needs. I then use TorrentCheck to remove all unnecessary files/folders. I'm sure most people know how to do this but I figured I'd share anyway. DOS76
I run torrent check against my existing set and then use the results to just grab those files which I download to an updates folder then I paste them all in the appropriate folders a little different but mainly the same process. DOS76
I'm not sure my process is 1 grab the torrent file and save it not open it. 2 then I open two file explorer windows side by side. One contains the torrents I just downloaded the other I use to first open TC then I change it over to my Arcade folder where I have my ROMs CHDs and Software Lists in their own folders. From there I just go into each folder and copy the path paste that in torrent check then go back to the download folder and drag the torrent on to TC and run the process. It produces a nice little notepad file listing every thing that is either missing or wrongly sized and it removes unwanted files. Then I open the torrent in QBittorrent and since I have it set to manual on one of the settings it lets me go through the files in the torrent and download what I want and then download them to my updates folder. I do this to skip the checking that the application does and it will just install the files without checking and this really saves a ton of time instead of trying to check it against all the files you already have (especially for the CHD and SoftwareListCHD torrents) 1
Owls21
Ah Ok. Our process is the same. It just never crossed my mind to manually check off the files from the list generated by TC. I always let the hash check run to figure it out. And the CHDs are easier, I just get the update file and overwrite the old CHDs. Then I use TC to remove the unnecessary files/folders. Thanks. Do you happen to know a way to copy roms/chds out of a full MAME set to keep separate folders for CPS1, CPS2, NAOMI, etc? I'd like separate platforms (not playlists) in LB so I can use different emulators for each. Edited December 26, 2018 by Owls21
DOS76
for Demul at least there is a extract pack in the download section of the forums that lets you copy games out of your MAME set. There are actually 2 of them one by myself the other by @SentaiBrad his pack is actually more up to date than mine but at the same time it also isn't up to date either. Owls21
Yes, I found those after searching through some threads but saw they were from older sets. Right now, everything is up to date and works, so I'm a bit hesitant to try. I always end up breaking something when I set it to "improve" it.
