Update failed.

Can anyone help me figure out why my launchbox won't update? I own licensed copy. I understand that it updates for some people and telling me it works for you without offering advice does not help. Also Rockstar games break launchbox, and do not work with controller commands.  - What happens, launchbox asks me if I would like to update, it closes its self out and nothing happens. Rockstar just interrupts Fullscreen sessions and have to physically close it out each time.

I have the option set "Automatically download updates in the background" basically what happens is when I launch launchbox it tells me a new update is available. Then asks me if I would like to install, if I click yes it closes out of launchbox and does nothing. I will turn the auto update off and see how it goes manually on the next update.  - PS I do not get any errors just nothing happens when I click install.  - Thank you for your advice

I launch launchbox, it tells me a new update is available and asks me if I would like to install, then if I click yes it closes out of launchbox, and nothing happens.

Just uncheck the box for background updates and see how it goes from there. Like I mentioned I have had mixed issues with that on. Since turning it off I have never had an update issue.

Close LaunchBox. Then navigate to your \\LaunchBox\Updates folder and find the installer in there. Then manually run the installer over your install (make sure you don't create a \\LaunchBox\LaunchBox directory when doing so) and you should be good to go.

I've tried this before, tried running it out of the update folder as administrator and nothing happens. I do have windows 11.

Never run an app as administrator that doesn't specifically tell you it needs it (and really wouldn't bother with apps that do). It will break things for many apps. In LaunchBox it breaks all relative pathing logic which is used heavily to load emulators and games.

Also ensure when running the installer you are pointing to your \\LaunchBox folder and not \\LaunchBox\LaunchBox. When running the installer it should open the app up after. You can check the version in the about page. I find it pretty hard to imagine after running the installer that the app opens as a different version than the installer is for.

I just tried a fresh install and that loaded fine, but yeah it just simply doesnt even load in my current collection, something has gone wrong with the update and its stoping at least 3 users in the forum from using LB. 

Not sure what it is though as it doesnt even crash or load at all.  Even just copied the exe files from the an installation from the other directory and it doesnt work. I do have a very very big collection though, 180k games.  So Im guessing its something to do with the databases and XML files.

Like I said, something is going on with your setup and a couple of other people, I am not disputing that. But making a blanket statement such as "the update is broken" or similar is just incorrect. The update works perfectly for countless people so the issue is most likely a users system configuration causing some weird issue.

Regardless, let's see if we can figure out the issue @kiler1500. Do you happen to have any logs available in your LaunchBox\Logs folder (that will depend on whether you had debug logs turned on). Since a fresh install works properly, most likely it's a data issue. Can you zip up and PM me your LaunchBox\Data folder?
