Rob J Nathan
Hi all, Bit of a noob, so apologies. I wanted to import my SNES ROMS (only a couple) just to get started (Pilotwings and Super Mario 4). I used the import roms files through tools and went through the wizard. It asked me if I would like to use retroarch as the emulator which I agreed and installed through Launchbox. In the back end of Retroarch I have downloaded my core (SNES 9X) and the games do run through Retroarch. However when I go back to Launchbox and hit play, all I get is a black screen. I have spent hours but I am now exhausted and frustrated. Any help would be amazing. Thank you. Rob
Retro808
Does the game run if you open Retroarch directly and try the game? If yes there could be a setting wrong in LB. Go to >Tools >Manage >Emulators and edit Retroarch. Post the following pics. 1. Pic of the Details tab 2. Pic of the Associated Platforms tab. Right click one for your SNES games and choose Edit Metadata and Media. Post the follwoing pics. 1. Pic of the Metadata tab 2. Pic of the Launching tab 3. Pic of the Emulation tab
Rob J Nathan
Hi buddy, thanks so much for your reply. Yes, the games work through Retroarch. I have included the pics you asked for. Thanks again. Rob
Retro808
In your pic of the Associated Platforms image we cannot see SNES platform. Can you show a pic with the SNES platform in the image. Also that last cell labeled "Status" that we can just barely see it clearly shows you are missing cores. That "M" that is just visible in that cell is "Missing Core File". That could be your issue. One is showing an application path filed in, and the other is showing it missing. You need an application path, so definitely make sure it's there. Rob J Nathan
Here we go, associated platform with super nintendo field at the bottom. I have made sure my core is the same as what is selected, but still nothing. So frustrated

So frustrated Im not sure if this is your issue but you are using a strange core there, is that the same core you are using when launching directly in retroarch? I ask as if i recall correctly bsnes accuracy needs bios files for a lot of its games, so if you are loading say snes9x in retroarch those games would work, but when launched from launchbox via a bsnes accuracy core they wouldnt. Personally id uses mesensnes or snes9x myself.

I then ended up just trying one that shows up on both systems to see if that solved the problem. Obviously not

Obviously not If you click the core name in your screenshot it will open a dropdown menu were you can choose any core you want, try snes9x and try loading a game again. Thanks Neil. To reiterate, I have snex9x (2010) as my selected core on retroarch AND Launchbox. The games will launch in retroarch, the games will not load in Launchbox
Lordmonkus
In your screenshots you have the bsnes_2014 core selected. I would advise using the snes9x core, the one without a year in its name. Also double check that the platform you have your SNES games imported to is the same as in the associated platforms list.

Yeah I have tried many cores, mate. Currently Snes9x (without year in it's name) on Retroarch and am I correct in saying it is listed as Snes9x_libretro on Launchbox? Cannot understand why if I have both cores matching, it will not load the games through LB. Sorry for all the trouble

Sorry for all the trouble Then you have something setup wrong in LB. Do other systems games work through LB with Retroarch ? Double check your platform name you imported the games to. The platform you imported games to needs to match the name in the associated platforms list of the emulator.

One thing that is weird is that Parrallei64 is my core on Retroarch for N64, but in LB the core is stated as Mupen64, yet it still works! Not sure how that is possible. Yeah for Snes I imported to Super Nintendo Entertainment System. What a way to spend a Friday!
Lordmonkus
Can you post a screenshot of your platforms and the details tab of the edit emulator screen ?

Hi again and good morning I have attached pics. Also not sure if I mentioned when I go to play a SNES game it goes black and the title comes up, via retroarch, but then does not run and stays black. I have successfuly installed Gamecube games, N64 and all of MAME, so I am really wound up about this now haha!

Your file path for Pilotwings is "Games/Super Nintendo Entertainment System/Pilotwings (Europe) (1).zip" (Id hugely recommend not using PAL European roms by the way, they run slower than they should) but that (1) in the file path, that means you downloaded the same file twice so the (1) was added in order to differentiate it as two files in the same folder cannot have the same name, so did you maybe import the (1) file, then realise you had two of the same file and delete or rename one? also you are using a zip, what happens if you unzip and import the .sfc file instead and run that (there is no reason at all to have files so small zipped)? Rob J Nathan
Hi, problem solved. I changed the ROM to a USA one (My previous ROMS were from Vimm's Lair) and changed the site I was downloading from. Also I unzipped the new rom (.sfc) although this did not help with the original ROM. I would like to thank you for all of your help and suggestions, they ultimately led me to this point so I am grateful. Have a great weekend.
