This is hard, leaving something out is hard. Doing a top 10 is already super difficult, so reducing to 5 feels like a betrayal lol

Top 5 games in incredibly difficult but games that made at the biggest impact and that I still play:

Mario 64 (Nintendo 64) - I remember the morning I got the Nintendo 64 and plugged it in ( I was a young lad) and I was with my older brother and the graphics absolutely blew my mind. I couldn’t fathom the 3D. Fun fact, I learned the direction differences of left from right because of the cannons. My brother would yell go left and it was imbedded in my brain.

Halo (original Xbox) - having family and friends over setting up a 16 player LAN party is still some of my favorite memories.

To The Top (steam VR / Oculus) - it is criminally underrated. Imagine par core, flying, climbing, with a banging soundtrack. It’s the one game that everyone seems to go back to it and the one I like to show up once people have their VR legs.

Counter-Strike (PC) - all half-life games are incredible but counter-strike was the mod that I spent hundreds of hours to play. We used to go to the local computer cafe (imagine black-lights, loud music, Asian snacks) with all of my friends and brothers to play. Oh the nostalgia.

GTA (MS-DOS) - the day my oldest brother booted this up, he told me I had to go away because I wasn’t old enough to play. When he would leave for sports, id sneak into his room to play. I couldn’t believe what I was playing and how it was allowed. Such a classic and I still play it to this day.

ps- not at my computer to add box art

My top 5 may not be the best, but they had the most impact for me and I still enjoy playing all of them:

  • Loderunner - Such a simple game but some of the levels were incredibly challenging and fun to figure out. Finally completing all the 150 original levels felt like such an accomplisment (Apple II)
  • Sonic 2 - Colorful, catchy music and fast, enough said. (Genesis)
  • Super Mario World 3 - Such a big world (at that time) and lots of variety and some really unique worlds.
  • Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 - Never got into Chris Sawyer's previous titles but this was right up my alley due to love of Cedar Point. Spent many a night into the wee hours working on building amazing parks.  (PC)
  • Unreal Tournament 2004 - Loved this game and one of the only I played online. Just plain fun with simple controls. Great mix of level design, fast multiplayer and still simple to control and play. (PC)

This is hard but in no particular order here's my Top 5:

  • Baldur's Gate 2 (This was just a spectacle from beginning to end. Such a huge game with so many choices and events. Blew my mind back in the day)
  • Beyond Good and Evil (This might be the first time I cried because of a game. There's so much love in BGE you can feel it oozing out of every moment in the game)
  • Thief 2 (THE stealth game. It's the only game I have permanently installed on my PC because there's just so many great fanmissions still coming out to this day)
  • Dishonored 2 (I couldn't decide on which Arkane game is my favourite because almost any game from them is a gem. Dishonored 2 stands for the whole of Arkane as a developer for me)
  • Sonic 3 (In my opinion everything from the first 2 Sonic games comes together into a polished and fulfilling whole. The best Sonic game to this day)

. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

These games gave me goosebumps when I played them, for how visually incredible they were to me at the time. Also, their gameplay was top notch.
