Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2

I had tons of fun with this mix of rpg and fighting game (my two favorite genres). I've been thinking of playing it again recently, and what better excuse than being isolated on a deserted island?

Rather it was a game for a desert island or the last game I knew I'd ever play: I'd pick Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSX.

It was the first game I played as a teenager where I was actively daydreaming about it while I was supposed to be working at my first(ish?) job.

Like I literally couldn't wait to get home and continue building what I still consider the perfect team. Heck I bought a serial port PS1 memory card

reader just so I could move my saves over back in the mid 00s (which of course required a USB to serial adapter lol).

There's just something about that game and I don't know if it's the art or the gameplay loop or what, but I sure do love it.

No shade to the post about Tactics Advance above me (I like that game as well).

Happy birthday Launchbox! A lot of great suggestions here. If stuck on a deserted desert island for an extended period of time, I'd choose the game "Launchbox" - hours of tinkering and organising, levelling up box art, fixing metadata, curating playlists....paradise! :D

My game to take to a desert island would be Dead Cells. I think it's the game with the most replay-ability that I've ever seen. Doom or Doom II would take a close second for nostalgic purposes.

Since this is a deserted island no online multiplayer right? would've chosen titanfall 2 because it has the best multiplayer imo.

Anyway, I'd choose MGSV: The phantom pain because of the gameplay sandbox. It is so fun! You have complete freedom on how you complete the mission. Example: for helmet enemies you can get quiet to shoot their helmet then shoot them with your rifle or pistol and that doesn't even scratch the surface. After playing it for a while, you can manipulate the AI to your doing. Also, this game has the best controls and the best feeling of any 3rd person shooter in my opinion. While sprinting, you can feel the weight of your footsteps (kinda like an earthquake feel) which makes it the greatest sprinting I've ever seen in a video game. The game does have some genuine flaws: a meh story & the open world gets boring after sometime. But I can ignore these problems because of the gameplay & controls. It's too good to pass on. I return to it every once in a while, it's a comfort game to me

Halo: Combat Evolved

This is the game that has had the highest replay value for me. I played it first when I was in my early-to-mid-twenties. After getting married, my wife and I played it together. I have played it with cousins and roommates and siblings. My wife and I now have three kids currently and each of them have played this game with me more than once. We play it as a family with split screen multiplayer. I have played it solo numerous times. Every difficulty, remastered and original, and I keep revisiting it any time I just want to play something that brings me peace and contentment.

This is my all time favorite game and I have loved playing it over and over again.

Perhaps a strange choice, but I would pick Arkanoid or DX-Ball for the PC. I played the heck out of those and every time I happen on another variant I will play it without fail. Something about that play mechanic fits my mental grooves.

If I could only take one game 🎮 to a deserted island 🏝️, it would be ...

Stranded alone on an alien ocean world, it's the perfect "desert island" game. I could picture what’s lurking beneath the waves of my real island, then relax in the safe shallows in-game — building bases to that chill soundtrack.

And hey, if I’m stranded anyway, I’d finally have time to hit 100% scan entries 🛜🤣.

Only one game on a deserted island?  I presume since we have electricity that this deserted island has other modern amenities such as refrigeration and likely has a good enough food supply that I can spend some time alone with a game for many hours (otherwise I wouldn't have time for gaming).

Now that I have over analyzed the scenario I should apply that to my gaming.  Civilization VI has me spending far too much time looking at every little detail, considering whether or not my warrior has a chance against damaged cavalry, and should I put the district here or there.  And then I have even more choices to think far too much about next turn.  And on a deserted island there is definitely time for just one more turn.
