Kevinsurrection Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Hi! I'm having an issue while trying to import a couple of Steam games. They were originally showing up under Windows. I fixed them, but 2 games don't want to download to Launchbox. I get an error that says: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." I have not changed any settings, file paths, folder names etc. All of my other Steam games go to the same location. I don't know why this error pops up. I'm not doing anything different when installing these Steam games compared to the other ones. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! Quote
Suhrvivor Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I'm getting an error and crash when I click the download media for a steam game, they might be related. My guess is that Steam recently changed their server side api and it doesn't work properly with LaunchBox now. Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. App: LaunchBox Version: 13.25-beta-2 Theme: Default Type: System.NullReferenceException Site: System.String GetTrailerVideoUrl(Unbroken.LaunchBox.Windows.SteamGame) Source: Unbroken.LaunchBox.Windows at Unbroken.LaunchBox.Windows.SteamGame.GetTrailerVideoUrl(SteamGame game) at Unbroken.LaunchBox.Windows.Desktop.ViewModels.DownloadImagesViewModel.ReflectControllablePredicate() at Unbroken.LaunchBox.Windows.Desktop.ViewModels.DownloadImagesViewModel.<>c.AdaptExtendedProvider(Action action) at Unbroken.LaunchBox.Windows.Threading.<>c__DisplayClass13_1`1.TerminateEfficientWatcherEvent() at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) --- End of stack trace from previous location --- at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) Recent Log: 3:20:10 AM Exception Quote

AstroBob Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Hi Folks, Thanks for reporting this and apologies for the issues here. We’ve identified a known issue where LaunchBox can crash when trying to download videos from Steam. We believe this is caused by a change to Steam's backend that we use to pull video media, and manifests in a few different situations (like editing metadata or using the import wizard). We’re actively working on a fix, and we’ll post updates on our known issue report here: 🔗 https://feedback.launchbox.gg/p/launchbox-error-when-attempting-to-download-video-media-from-steam In the meantime, you’ll find a list of steps in that post to help you avoid the crash. If you upvote that post, you'll automatically get updates once we have confirmed a fix. Thanks for bearing with us while we get this sorted. 2 1 Quote

JamesAndersonJr Posted Friday at 12:50 PM Posted Friday at 12:50 PM I first noticed this error while trying to import "Sonic Rumble". I acquired that game on its launch date. So, this has been present in some form at least since November 5, 2025. #FWIW Quote

Now it is a hard crash, closing of the program. Now we cannot download any Steam game's trailers. Prior to this escalation it was only more recent games or more specifically, games that recently added trailers. Quote
skizzosjt Posted Friday at 03:00 PM Posted Friday at 03:00 PM Been using these directions as a workaround for the meantime https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/597414541036361545/ Quote

Flopp1993 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I have the same problem and I think it got even worse in the last couple of weeks. Now it gives the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" every time I try to import any game from Steam. Quote

Per the temporary Workarounds outlined in the link above by @AstroBob, Quote If scanning for storefront games, temporarily change media priorities to exclude trailer videos ("scanning" is equivalent to "importing") Quote
