About This File

View and add images from the LaunchBox Games Database directly to your game.
Compare images you already have against the database.
Remove images from your collection.

Scenario #1:
You're looking through your collection and you notice a game is missing an image. (An Arcade Cabinet in this case)
image.thumb.png.960a9553b025e0c70121d37da7131e58.png

Solution #1:

  • Edit the game
  • Go to Media < Images
  • Click Download Media
  • Click Uncheck All
  • Check Arcade Cabinet
  • Switch to the EmuMovies tab
  • Click Uncheck All
  • Click Download
  • Arrow through the images until you get to the newly added images
  • Find the one you want and click Remove Image on each of the others
  • Click OK to save

Solution #2:

  • Open this plugin
  • Click Arcade - Cabinet
  • Double-click which image you want to add
  • Close the plugin

Scenario #2:
You have multiple Arcade Cabinet images in your collection, and you've discovered you can only ever see one-at-a-time.

Solution #1:

  • Edit the game
  • Go to Media < Images
  • Arrow through the images until you get to the Arcade - Cabinet Images
  • Arrow through each one until you decide on which one you want to keep
  • Click Remove Image on each of the others
  • Click OK to save

Solution #2:

  • Open this plugin
  • Switch to Local Images
  • Right-click the image(s) you don't want and select Remove Image
  • Close the plugin

Requirements:

  • An internet connection
  • An associated LaunchBox Games Database ID# for the selected game

Installing:
Download and extract the contents of the download into your /LaunchBox/Plugins/ folder.
    i.e.  D:/LaunchBox/Plugins/LBDBimages/LBDBimages.dll

Using:

  • Start LaunchBox
  • Right-Click a game
  • Select LB Games db Images *

*If a game does not have an associated LaunchBox Games Database ID#, the menu option will be disabled.

Switch between the LBDB Images and your games' [Local] Images (lower right corner)

LBDB Images view:
Select a filter on the left to view only those image types
Double-click an image to add it to your game
Check Hide images you already have to not show...yup...images you already have **

Local Images view:
Select a filter on the left to view only those image types
Right-click an image and select Remove Image to remove it from your collection

**This only checks for an exact CRC32 match between the database images and your local images.  "Pretty close" is not an "exact match".

Click the DB Id # to navigate to the LaunchBox Games Database webpage for that game (opens into your default browser)
Mouse-over an image to see its image type and region (if available)

Plugin Updates
If an (U)pdate for this plugin has been released on the forums,
    a) the plugin title in the right-click game menu will show as: (U) LB Games db Images
    b) At the top of the plugin window, it will show Update available

Click the Info/Support icon, then click the Update Available button. This will open the plugins download page in your default browser.

As always, all thoughts, views, suggestions, opinions and accolades are welcome.

This plugin is really useful and well-made! 💪

The resizable window with the mouse is also very convenient—it would be great to have this feature in all other plugins. I also wanted to report that if I try to remove multiple images at once, it only deletes one, whereas removing them one by one works correctly.

Thanks! Glad you like it!

Bulk delete was never designed in. That's why it's working the way it does. ;)

However the plugin allows you to select many images by holding down the CTRL key and mouse click

Thanks. Guess I never tried that since I knew it wouldn't delete multiple at a time. I'll get the multi-select disabled in the next update.

Not sure what to say. Tried the same game (well, just the first one) that 'failed' and it worked here.

Might try doing a Force Update Games Database.

If that doesn't fix it,

  • Shutdown LaunchBox
  • Restart LaunchBox
  • Right-click Gekirindan: Time Travel Shooting and select the plugin
  • If it still doesn't appear, Exit LaunchBox (Don't dottle. Just exit. Otherwise a ton of other shtuff needs to get sifted through in the log file)
  • Drag and drop the most recent log onto your reply here (/LaunchBox/Logs/Debug 2025-02-15 xx-xx-xx AM.log)
  • If you didn't have Logging enabled, enable it and restart these steps

Disregard my previous reply.  I did some sleuthing and found that if it errors reading an image from the Database or one of your local images, it prevents it from opening.

I'll see if I can conjure up a solution.  But for now, you'll need to go back to Solution(s) #1 listed in the description when that occurs.

The plugin doesn't work for some games for me either. For example, for one game where I have 36 images, the plugin doesn't start, and nothing happens.

I've noticed that removing the fanart background from gekirinden makes it work, the same with other saturn games removing FABG and box front reconstructed (added from a forum pack not in the database) also fixes things.

Thanks.  That's pretty much what I'm finding too.  Some images have corrupt headers. The one I'm using as a baseline for my ("fail") testing is a Fanart Box-Front that was actually downloaded from the database.

For the local images, that's detectable and I'm just going to replace those [preview] images with image.thumb.png.417836d4d22069e562f18fd0df0377bf.png

For the preview images from the database, the ones that have the corrupt header, sometimes they show. Sometimes they're blank (switching to local images and then back fixes it). And sometimes they 'error' and will show the red X.

It'd be nice to just have them show. I mean, they'll show in any other image viewer.  We'll see.

Thank you for fixing the plugin! It now works really well and makes everything much more efficient.

If I may suggest an improvement that I would find useful (and I believe others would too), it would be great to have, along with the image preview, some key details like resolution and file size. This would make it easier to quickly assess which images to keep or delete, helping to choose the best ones more effectively.

In particular, some images may look identical at first glance but could have lower quality when viewed in full screen. Having resolution and file size readily available would make it much easier to spot these differences and make better decisions.

Since I have images archived from many years ago, such a feature would be extremely helpful for managing them more efficiently.

Thanks again for your work!

Information for the LaunchBox Games Database images comes from the file /Metadata/LaunchBox.Metadata.db (image file web location, type, region and CRC32 value).  It does not provide the image resolution and file size.  I can probably get that info for the local images.  But without physically downloading the web image(s), I can't get it for those.  Making, obtaining that info for the local images a moot point.

Chances are (or maybe not) that over the course of "many years", the images have been replaced with newer ('better') ones.  In this case, you should probably just do a Bulk Download and select Replace for your media.

Though not specifically stated, the intent of this plugin is for spot checking for missing or getting alternate images. With the added bonus of seeing the images side-by-side (just not-to-scale).  i.e. For my Arcade Platform, I prefer the Arcade - Cabinet left-angle view of the cab (vs. right-angle or straight on view).  (semi-related to Scenario #2 in the description)

I can't see the plugin in LaunchBox when I right-click on a game. Where is this new version located? Has something changed?

It was a test to see if you were running the latest beta version of LaunchBox. You failed. ;)  jk  I accidentally built it using LB v13.20-beta-2.

v1.2.1 now built for LB 13.19+

Thanks 💚

Would it be possible to add a feature to the plugin that saves settings upon closing?

Specifically, I'm referring to the 'Hide images you already have' checkbox, so that it remains enabled even after restarting the program.

Doesn't seem too unreasonable.  I can add the request to the list.

What an amazing plugin, fantastic job!

Is there any possibility this plugin can be accessed from the right-click menu within LaunchBox's Audit window? This would be a great addition, when sorting through games that might be missing certain image types, but it's already a fantastic help.

Keep up the great work!

Thank you very much.

Not sure what you mean by the right-click menu other than that's how the plugin is accessed already.  Unless you mean the right-click menu in the audit window.  The provided LaunchBox API doesn't give us access to the audit window.

Glad you like.  Just "Be[ing] excellent to each other". :)

v1.3.0-beta-1

New Feature:    Saves Hide images you already have on close and is used next time you open the plugin

Note:  This release won't show up in the plugin as having an update available.  LBDBimages (v1.3.0-beta-1).7z
