GCFE 1.1

   (4 reviews)

About This File

A simple, clean, bare-bones, theme. Comes with 1 Platform View and 1 Game View. This theme is an off-shoot of my CoverBox - Gamecube theme. I liked it enough that I decided to turn it into a generic theme that can be used for any system.

This theme is designed to run in 1080p, and has been tested to run properly in 720p and 4k.

Installation Instructions

Spoiler

1. Open the GCFE.zip file and drag the folder into your LaunchBox\Themes folder.
2. Go into the GCFE\Fonts folder and install the BebasNeue Regular font.
3. Open BigBox, go to Options > Views and change the theme to GCFE

Platform View

Designed to move out of the way of the full screen platform videos, while still retaining a semblance of menu awareness. The bar fades completely away after a few seconds, and the clear logos fade to 10% of its opacity.

Released

Platform View

  • Added a peak feature for the wheel. When idle for a couple seconds, the wheel will hide itself at the bottom of the screen peaking out a little so you can remember where you were in your menu list
  • The wheel now fades to 40% instead of 10%

Game View

  • Replaced the orange-yellow highlight selector with a gradient border selector (requested by @Lordmonkus)
  • Added the box cover to this view. It animates from the right side after 3 seconds (requested by @bundangdon)

Not bad, I like the minimalist design but there are 2 things I would like to see different. One is the yellow highlight of the selected game is not something I like a whole lot, it makes the name of the game you have selected hard to read and it's a bit bright. The second thing I would like to see is if the user didn't have a video for the game it should show the box art

I believe, if there isn't a video, the default action is to show a screenshot. However, I'll look into including the box art somewhere. I haven't really noticed an issue with the highlighted color until you mentioned it. Even on my bright, washed out, monitor it seems okay. I'll look into different options in the next update.

Yeah it shows a screenshot if there is no video which is fine for most people, i'm just odd :)

And i'm sure the yellow is just personal preference, other people probably like it. For me it's the white text with yellow highlight is not enough contrast making the game title a little rough to read but it's not like you can't just look at the clear logo at the bottom to see what it is either.

Just minor stuff really.

What is that platform category selection video that rotates the tv monitors around? That is insane.

That is the BigBox Cinematix - Consoles Category video.

You can download it in LaunchBox by going to Tools > Download Platform/Playlist Theme Videos...

Very nice simple theme! Would like to see a way to implement cover/box art in there somewhere, somehow :)

I think I have a solution for this for the next release.

I really like this theme!  One suggestion though.  Arcades use Advertisement Flyer - Front instead of Box - Front.  Launchbox will automatically default over to flyers on the Arcade if one chooses Boxes and there is no artwork.  I noticed on this theme, that on the game selection page, that the video for the game plays, and instead of the box cover coming in from the side, its a gameplay screenshot (which is a little redundant with the video showing something similar).  Is there a way to change this so that it will show the flyer instead of the screenshot for the item that slides in from the side?  Thanks!

Hi @greengeek. Bigbox uses whatever you've set your main image in Launchbox. Open up Launchbox and select the arcade platform. Find the "Image Type" drop down and change it to whatever you like. Bigbox will display whatever you choose there. Hopefully that helps.

Looking at the screenshots, I think this is probably the best and most consistent theme on the forums, but I can't get it to work.  Seems to be using parts of the default theme and this theme.  Not sure what's going on.

Hi @HeyMufti

Let's check some basic stuff first.

It looks like you are on a text list platform view. You will want to change to another Platform view.

If you haven't already, go into BigBox > Options > Views

Change the Platforms List View to: Platform Wheel 1.

Let me know if that helps.
