Yep, I was thinking of having 2 platforms in BB. Spectrum - Controller and Spectrum - Keyboard (as there will be quite a lot of games that a controller won't work for). I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not? What do you think? For the Controller one I'll just use Kempston as a base as you advise. As I said, Speccy was my first computer so I would love to get a load of the old games working. Was playing Jet Set Willy earlier and even the music brought a big smile to my face.

Ahhh... okay so I managed to pick the one game with problems Yep, sounds like me. Thanks for all your help

@neil9000 not really on-topic but I just tried your method tonight - I set up a new install of RetroArch - I entered the Quick Menu and changed controls for Player 1 to a Kempston joystick. I then started Atic Atac and chose the Kempston joystick and my little knight just runs to the top right of the room and constantly fires without any keys on my controller being pressed? I am using a cheap 'wired' X-box 360 controller and, in the main controls for Player 1 (i.e. NOT the quick menu but the global menu) it shows up fine? Do I need a different type of physical controller? Or am I missing a setting somewhere? I only ask as the Spectrum is my favourite platform and the reason for my misspent youth. I would love to be able to quickly get 95% of the games working with a controller if it was possible. Thanks for your help

Thanks @faeran that's handy to know I'm not sure if I'll be able to achieve what I want in this instance. My game has a 'fixed' key of "P" for Pickup. I can turn on Game Focus but I think LB/BB will still pick up on "P" being pressed and show the Pause screen. I can turn off Pause in LB/BB but then that applies to every game on every system which I don't want. I'm not sure there's a solution for this particular problem at the moment? Really appreciate you adding your advice though

Okay, thanks. That's a generic setting unfortunately. But, not to worry, I'll try messing around with the settings in Retroarch and see if there's some way of doing it for that game specifically. Thanks for all your help

I'll be definitely trying your Kempston tip!! Thanks!!! I've previously been trying to map keys individually on each game. I've done about 10 of my favourites but it's really laborious. Didn't realise there was a quick way!! Soooo glad I spoke to you before I embarked on doing a lot more. I checked Tools/Options/Controller Mappings in LB and I don't have anything mapped to the Pause button?? Am I supposed to have Enable Game Controller ticked? And then put something in the Pause mapping?? Also, is it definitely Launchbox I should be in? I use Big Box on my machine? Just want to make sure I'm tinkering with the right bit? Thanks for your help (and patience!)

Thanks for getting back to me Neil. Which controller mapping section? Within Retroarch? Or within Big Box? Or somewhere else? Good point about Q,A,O,P. I suppose I've just always assumed the Speccy would need a keyboard so never really looked into using a controller with it. I do use my cab controls for a few games (Atic Atac, Bruce Lee and a few other favourites) but I've not really started setting it up in earnest yet. I just had a hankering for Rebelstar yesterday. There's probably too many keys for a controller anyway for Rebelstar as you have Info / Pickup / Drop / Fire / Snapshot / Aimed shot etc etc...

Hi all, For the first time since the 1980's, I had a game of Rebelstar yesterday. I played it using the Spectrum emulator through Retroarch. It was a great bit of gaming nostalgia - the only problem was that "Pickup object" uses the "P" key. But pressing "P" takes me to the Big Box Pause screen. Is there a way to disable Pause for certain games? Or, at least, change the key used (you would never need to 'pause' Rebelstar anyway as it just a turned based strategy game). Thanks (PS. I lost - in case you were wondering). 🙂

@patientFool this is what I do. I have a "Arcade" platform that contains all the games. And then I have a "Classics" playlist based on the All Killer No Filler games (along with some of my own faves). 90% of the time I'm playing games from the Classics playlist but, now and again I like to just dip into the Arcade platform and find other games to play. I've found some brilliant games this way that I would never have experienced. It's also good to have it this way in case you have any friends over who might have some nostalgic games of their own that you haven't heard of before

Problem with latest tutorial by ETA PRIME for Philips-CDi
Johnny T replied to Johnny T's topic in Troubleshooting
I've managed to glean some more information about this. The Retroarch same_cdi emulator doesn't (currently) support Digital Video Cartridge games. So the following games won't work (thanks to a Reddit user called ZadocPaet for putting this list together) A full list of CD-i games that use the Digital Video Card Required Atlantis - The Last Resort Brain Dead 13 Caesar’s World of Boxing Chaos Control Chistmas Country Chistmas Crisis Cluedo Cluedo The Mysteries Continue Creature Shock Crime Patrol Crime Patrol 2: Drug Wars De Zaak Van Sam Do you remember the 60s Dragon's Lair Dragon's Lair II - Time Warp Invasion from the Planet Skyron Kingdom - The Far Reaches Kingdom II - Shadoan Litil Divil Lost Eden Lucky Luke - The Video Game Mad Dog II - The lost Gold Mad Dog McCree Mutant Rampage: Bodyslam Solar Crusade Space Ace Strip Poker Pro Tetsuo Gaiden The 7th Guest 1 The Last Bounty Hunter The Lost Ride Thunder in Paradise Ultra CD-i Soccer Uncover Featuring Tatjana Voetbal Who Shot Johnny Rock? World Cup Golf Optional A Great Day at the Races Great American Golf 2 Master Labyrinth Rise of the Robots Space Ranger - Alpha (prototype) The Apprentice I'm sure support for these will come in the future but not available for now. So, as per the great help on this forum I'm left with the conclusion that we need to click "Play CD-i" as a second step when running the game and also bear in mind that 'some' games will not yet run. Hope this helps others in the same boat 🙂 (thanks again to everyone for their help) -
Problem with latest tutorial by ETA PRIME for Philips-CDi

Thanks for that Sundogak. In the recent ETA Prime video he seems to just be able to launch straight into a game It's not a major problem to click the button but just wondered how he'd managed to make his boot straight into the game. Thanks for all your help. I'll have a play around but, if I can't suss it, as I say - it's not a problem -
Problem with latest tutorial by ETA PRIME for Philips-CDi
Johnny T posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hi all, This isn't an LB problem but thought I'd post here as someone may still be able to help me. I was trying to follow ETA Prime's recent video on setting up Philips CD-i. However, when I try and run a game (even directly from Retroarch) I just get to the menu screen. If I click (i.e. press the "z" key) on Play CD-i then the game runs fine. However, it's not autolaunching the game? Does anyone have any ideas? I'm getting lost in myriads of old posts/threads about getting Philips CD-i to work in MESS / MAME etc and can't seem to find an answer to this specific problem? Many thanks 🙂 -
Just as an alternative, here's a couple I made for my system. I've called them Daphne and Daphne Classics (Singe 2 and Singe 1). I prefer @sundogak logos and will probably change my own to Singe and Singe 2 as they look better but just thought I'd post these here in case anyone wants to use them. PS. I'm just fiddling my way through Photoshop but was really proud of the fact that I got Dirk's legs looking like he's walking 'through' the "N"

You, my friend, are a God among men. Thank you 🙂

Hi @Juketsu Thanks for releasing this Pause theme. It looks great! Where does it search for the 'manual' as per your screenshot? I have some Daphne games that I'd like to add Manuals for? Where do I need to put images or whatever in order for your Pause theme to pick them up? And, does it work with images or just PDFs? Many thanks for all your efforts for the community. I see your name popping up all over the place and it's very much appreciated 🙂

I'm not sure about your issue - but, for me, unticking that Suspend Emulator Process While Paused seemed to do the trick. It sounds like the answer is in there somewhere (i.e.. a combination of those settings you mentioned) as you've had it working and now it's stopped. If it was me, I would maybe just write out those different settings on piece of paper and put a cross on all the different combinations and then just rattle through them and tick-off whether it works or not on each combo? I'm assuming your MAME and LB is fully up-to-date etc... Also worth checking if your Pause key works directly in MAME itself.

Thank you @sundogak I appreciate the info and advice. I can see I've got a bit of work in front of me! Cheers 🙂

Thanks for those instructions. I found this post as I was looking for a guide on setting up D.I.C.E and your instructions were spot on!! Followed them and it worked a treat. Just wanted to say a big Thank You!! 🙂 PS.. the list of games as per v0.9 of DICE is: antiaircraft attack breakout cleansweep crashnscore crossfire gotcha jetfighter hiway indy4 pinpong pong pongdoubles quadrapong rebound sharkjaws spacerace steeplechase stuntcycle tvbasketball wipeout

Thanks for the tip! I use Big Box though rather than LB as I have it running on a cabinet. Will take a look though as I've not seen the Steam LB theme 🙂

@faeran and @JoeViking245 those are great suggestions!! Just what I was looking for. I'll experiment with the Additional App suggestion. Thanks for posting back all the ideas. Much appreciated 🙂

Hi all, I've just set up a load of Daphne/Singe games. The instructions for some of them vary slightly (for instance, in Cliff Hanger you need a button for 'feet' and another for 'hands'). What's the best way to add an Instructions file to the game? I know there's a Pause screen theme that will show instructions but I already have a Pause screen so didn't really want to change it if I can help it? Is that what people use? Or do people use the Manual functionality and put instructions there? Or is there another way that I don't know about ?

I'm looking at starting to set up FP next week. If you have anything that you could share that would help (media-wise) then it would be most welcome. I'm just working on Singe/Daphne at the moment and have nearly got it all sorted (created 3D boxes / marquees etc and shared these in the Downloads section last night). For the screenshot issue - I had a problem with some of the 'classic' Daphne games that the screenshots taken through LB were coming back as just black screens. I used the option in OBS Studio under Settings -> Hotkeys -> Screenshot Output. I set this to be "F9" key. Then ran the game, pressed F9, quit the game and LB asks if I want to store my video. I say "yes" and the screenshot appears where the videos normally do (Launchbox/Videos/...) I then just dragged them into Photoshop to crop them etc. That's great information!! I thought all the tables had to be in the /Tables folder loose and all the scripts in the /Scripts folder etc.... your system is LOADS better!! Between various sources I've managed to glean lots of tables and pup packs etc but now need to go through and pick which ones I want to add and configure them. I know from past experience that VPX and FP aren't just a "import all" type of system. Each table needs setting up individually. I didn't realise that LB/BB ignores parenthesis - that's great information. In the past I've written software to strip out the parenthesis from names but obviously didn't need to!!

I wasn't a massive fan of any of the light gun games Clear Logos I could find so I made this one. I have Sinden Lightguns so I prefer this one on my cab. Thought I'd share in case anyone else likes it....

Hi all, I was recently setting up American Laser Games and Daphne (Singe and Singe v2). I needed to create some 3D boxes and marquees (16:3 which suits my stretched LCD) and box fronts, clear logos etc. I found some of this stuff on the internet but created a lot too so there's new stuff and some improved stuff. I thought I'd just share them here in case they came in handy for anyone else? Just saves you doing the same work if you're trying to get some media for Daphne.
