  1. I'll start: Being introduced to interesting games that I most likely would never have heard of and then want to play a few here and there. For the heck of it, I'll add that I dislike this the most: sometimes it never ends...
  2. Youtube has it so you can actually read.

    ARCADE!!!

hmm, I wonder if enough people approved the requests for deletion. Then even if Jeffe is moving them back, will they have a different URL? Rendering those videos that have links useless?
  4. Anyone have any ideas to propose for making game deletion more difficult than "9. Game entries require 3 approvals or 3 rejections in order to proceed in either direction"? Approval for submitting a new game is no issue, but DELETING, I feel should either require more approvals for deletion, or there should be a system that alerts the moderators if mass deletion is attempted and requires them to give the "okay", regardless of the number of users that have hit "Accept" vs "Reject". Of course I have zero idea what is going on under the hood (more of a note to devs).

I take it these next 425 request I'm mostly rejecting lol nope, only 170ish/425 @Thanatos_Prime remember this:

    ARCADE!!!

    1. Completely agree as long as it follows this rule: Although, I'm not too familiar with Arcade games, so I usually use this site for proper titles: https://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9888 (super dodge ball linked in this instance). Also I believe parenthesis are superscript: https://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/207e/index.htm 2. Refer to #1. 3. I don't quite understand what you mean, most likely due to my lack of knowledge in this area.
  7. Since the field for Wikipedia already exists, could you add what I wrote above: https://forums.launchbox-app.com/topic/28825-moderator-guidelines-and-contributor-rules/?do=findComment&comment=331643 or a modified version using your own words or something to that degree as #13? In addition the following is still relevant and should not be omitted: 14. Game ratings should reflect what is on the box. a. There is no guess work or making up ratings. If one doesn't exist, then one does not exist. <!--revision suggestion: 14. Game ratings should reflect what is found on https://www.esrb.org .--> <!--revision suggestion: a. There is no guess work or making up ratings. If one doesn't exist, then select "Not Rated".--> <!--revision suggestion to 14: b. K+A rating was changed to E. In this case make the rating E.-->
  8. 13-17 @Jason Carr I wonder why you couldn't see these below #12 in my original post of the typed text: https://forums.launchbox-app.com/topic/28825-moderator-guidelines-and-contributor-rules/?do=findComment&comment=331582
  9. I Didn't realize you have already added 1-12. Regardless, my apologies for the confusion. Instead of a revision, add a rule with something along the lines of this example: 18. Appropriate links for the Wikipedia field are: Wikipedia, Gamepedia, Fandom Wiki, (I'm probably forgetting something) a. ROM Hacks and Home Brews may have a creators website, forum post, or google doc added if none of the above sources have content pertaining to their creation. b. ROM Hacks may have a creators website, forum post, or google doc added if it contains a download link to a .UPS, .IPS, or .BPS file. c. ROM Hacks may not have a creators website, forum post, or google doc added if it contains a download link to a ROM of a licensed game.
  10. Correct. 3. would be a slightly better choice due to it coming before the "overview"/"description" in the DB UI and this would be reflected in the guidelines. However since everything is already out of order, adding #18 stating something along those lines would be the least amount of work.
  11. 18. A lower number would work, but that requires more effort on your part, unless you have someone do it for you.
  12. @Jason Carr (last ping) Any chance we could have revision for allowed Wikipedia links specifically in regard to rom hacks (RH) and homebrews (HB) stated in the text? The majority of RH's and HB's either have a website or forum post created/written/updated by the creator(s) dedicated to the RH or HB with all the information that one would need in regard to their content. In all the cases I have come across of dedicated websites and forums posts (by the creator), one is unable to find a link to ROM, since nobody enjoys receiving a C&D. Plus, it's necessary in some cases to avoid game breaking bugs. If it's a hard "no" to dedicated websites and forum posts by the creator, how about google docs? Finally, I've tested it and had no issues from a non wikipedia site, as typed here (my test was with a google doc):
  13. Do you enjoy puzzle? If so check this one out: https://www.mit.edu/~puzzle/2017/puzzle/the_puzzle_at_the_end_of_this_book.html (click on cover and spreads in order)
  14. @CBeatt13 Apparently I didn't finish my calculations in time for the above edit before the two responses.

  16. I'm going to use the Strike series as examples. I'll start with "Urban Strike", as it is commonly rejected as the proper title on this DB. Instead the majority of Moderators will mistakenly accept "Urban Strike: The Sequel to Jungle Strike" as the proper title. I'm unable to say with 100% certainty as to why this is; I have a theory that it is due to "2. Game names should reflect the box of the game, with the exception of games that break scraping in LaunchBox."; this should be more clearly defined. I'm basing my theory off of the comments seen here: ":The Sequel to Jungle Strike" is not part of the title, it is literally a "subtitle" or "tag-line"; an explanation that this is a sequel to the previous game in the Strike series; hence the use of a : (colon) "Urban Strike: The Sequel to Jungle Strike" is considered an "alternate name" or "alternate title", this is an honest mistake (I have experienced firsthand the complexity and depth of English and can attest to it being more intricate than many other languages). Here are all of the sources I found easily: • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strike_(video_game_series) • https://vgcollect.com/item/32316 • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_Strike • https://www.mobygames.com/game/urban-strike • https://www.amazon.com/Urban-Strike-Sega-Genesis/dp/B000035XPI • https://www.walmart.com/ip/Urban-Strike-Sega-Genesis/825558852 • https://www.ibiblio.org/GameBytes/issue21/creviews/urban1.html • https://www.ibiblio.org/GameBytes/issue21/creviews/urban2.html • https://www.sega-16.com/2006/10/urban-strike/ • https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/company/78612-granite-bay-software A number of sources and explanations above pertain to https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/19862 as well. In regard to those that clearly don't, one may search those websites for the proper title, example: https://www.mobygames.com/game/jungle-strike. TIP: Google Site (site colon) has the potential to be quite useful. Example of how I use a site colon frequently geekhack.org: Unicorn X Legend - input into google search bar or most web browser address bars. Feel free to post about other games with subtitles or taglines that you are unsure about. We'll analyze them together!
  17. @Thanatos_Prime "I'm here to mostly make sure that someone doesn't go nuts deleting stuff and to try to catch the big stuff" with only 3 approvals required for a change to be made, yet alone a deletion... I agree with your other statements. I've revised my suggested edits; let me know what you think.

  19. Suggested edits (in italic): 1. b. add https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/ & https://www.romhacking.net/homebrew/ to the list for rom hack and homebrew source checking. c. reject if the submission provides zero sources or you are unable to locate corresponding data from the sources listed in 1.b. 4. Change "Game Description" to "Overview" to properly reflect current DB UI/text. 8. f. Provide Fanart source. 14. a. Should be reworded to reflect the difference between the blank option and "Not Rated".
  20. @Jason Carr are you able modify the first post of this thread with this information? If yes, would you kindly do so? If not, and you are able to do so would you rename this thread to something similar to Suggestions, and make a second thread that is to be pinned with the typed version below in one format or another? I have typed it all out here [I didn't type out links because I don't want to be responsible for taking someone to a potentially malicious site due to a typing error (Copy&Paste is a different story)] : Our mission for the LaunchBox Games Database is simple, to provide the best possible experience for artwork and metadata for our users to use. The nature of the database is to preserve video game history for hopefully years and years to come. In that spirit, below are the guidelines that we have created for our moderators to go by. If you think a rule is too strict or not strict enough, or want to add a rule not currently in place, please let us know at our forums and | we'll discuss the possibility of a change with a moderation rule Moderator and Community Guidelines Thread: LaunchBox Games Database Issue Tracker: 1. Do your best to check sources. a. When researching something if two sites have conflicting metadata, try and find a 3rd and see what the 3rd one will match. b. Good and acceptable websites to double check metadata are MobyGames, Giant Bomb, Wikipedia, IGN, Steam, GOG and GameFAQs. 2. Game names should reflect the box of the game, with the exception of games that break scraping in LaunchBox. a. For example, Alien 3 breaks scraping with it's superscript 3. b. Characters like : and - and & are acceptable as long as they don't break the above rule. c. Characters like and + are not acceptable UNLESS on the Boxart or the Developer has spelt the game with them. Still cannot break the scrapability rule 3. A game should only have 1 entry per platform. a. Multiple Disc games don't get entries per disc. Still 1 entry. b. Special Editions only get a unique entry on the Database if the game is significantly different than the already existing entry. I.e. Fallout 3 and Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition would be two separate entries. 4. Game Descriptions should only contain descriptive text about what the game is. a. Should not contain cheat information. b. Should not spoil the game. c. Do not answer Puzzles in the description 5. Consoles will be getting merged with alternate scraping names. a. For example. Famicom and the NES are the same. They will be getting merged soon, but before that is added if the game exists in the NES category don't add it to the Famicom category. b. They're the same console with different regional names. Regional naming alternatives is coming for Consoles and Game Titles. 6. Adult games are allowed on the Database, but nudity and partial nudity is not allowed. a. Adult language is allowed as long as it is not obscene. a. Adult Language is allowed as long as it is not obscene. 7. Front and Back Box Art must have the proper regional tag and be added to the proper category. a. Reconstructed box art can not be used in any other category then the reconstructed section. 8. Fan art must be directly related to the game. a. Must be created or customized by a user. b Fan Art must be at least 1280 x 720 for Background based art. c. Real life photography is not allowed d. Must comply with the other rules, like no nudity. e. No Watermarks of Website logos, Icons or uploader images. 9. When possible, get the best looking image available. a. No Watermarks 10. Game entries require 3 approvals or 3 rejections in order to proceed in either direction In the case of stalemates, we'll try to convene on the forums and discuss the game currently stuck in limbo and proceed from there. 11. Metadata should reflect the console it was released on. a. If a game has multiple versions on multiple consoles then multiple entries will be required. b. So if a game exists on PS2, Xbox and GameCube then there should be 3 game entries, 1 for each console. 12. A game's release date must require at least a release year. If the game has documentation for the release day and month then please provide. a. Older games may not have accurate data on release dates. b. In case of no year, leave blank until that information can be found. c. The release date should be the first date the game was released on. d. Regional Date categories are going to be implemented, which will then require each game to have the proper date for the proper region. d. Regional Date categories are going to be implemented, which will then require each game to have the proper date for the proper region. 13. Full list of every official ratings board: 14. Game ratings should reflect what is on the box. a. There is no guess work or making up ratings. If one doesn't exist, then one does not exist. 15. The United States, Canada and Mexico use the ESRB. a. K+A rating was changed to E. In this case make the rating E. b. The database will denote that before 1998 E used to be K+A for historical accuracy. c. Official ESRB Ratings: . UK used the BBFC until 2010 then changed to PEGI. In this case, unlike KM to E, there are too many cases where simple footnotes are sufficient. Use the appropriate rating. 16. UK used the BBFC until 2010 then changed to PEGI. In tis case, unlike K+A to E, There are too many cases where simple footnotes are sufficient. Use the appropriate rating. a. BBFC Ratings - only for games released from 2009 and previous and where applicable. (Not every game even got a rating) b. Official PE I Ratings (2010 onward) 17. Japan uses CERO. Japanese games released from 2002 and onward received a CERO rating. a. Official CERO Ratings: b. Japanese PC games (Including Mature games) are rated via EOCS (Ethics Organization of Computer Software). c. Official EOCS Ratings:
  21. Thank you very much Temp. I appreciate you directing me to the proper place where a moderator has posted the guidelines. Might I suggest that the Current Moderators update the first post of the Pinned thread with those images. Unless you can't, in which case the devs should make that possible. In that case I would like to suggest the following edits since it is stated here: Suggested edits (in italic): 1. b. add https://www.romhacking.net to the list for rom hack source checking. c. reject if the submission provides zero sources. 4. Change "Game Description" to "Overview" to properly reflect current DB UI/text. 8. f. Proof that the fanart is used with permission or doesn't require permission. 14. a. Should be reworded to reflect the difference between the blank option and "Not Rated". Finally, I would like to add that I did not commit the ad hominem fallacy. I only responded to your suggestions, by taking their literal meanings, and using reasonable "E rated" adjectives as a response to the suggestions, I was not defining you as a human, nor did I attack you on a personal level. @Temp P.S. Back to moderating I go.
  22. Reading through all 18 pages is an insufficient use of any humans time. In addition, the pinned post that has the link stating it contains the guidelines is no longer available. Finally, that link that may have contained accepted changes discussed in the thread that were only proved to be accepted within the document. What you are suggesting is an unprofessional & frankly unacceptable solution, not to mention it's extremely inadequate. I take it you didn't read my post that contained this video of me doing the latter suggestion of your "side note":
  23. Thank you very much. I'm not doubting you, as I have no reason to, and I can't verify it either (if the address bar was part of the screenshot however...). I still wish for the moderators to provide their own document or source. Due to the following quotes and so there is no question about guideline authenticity and completeness: reminder: I couldn't find those guidelines. BTW in the event that your pdf is verified by the moderators, wouldn't my original post fall under the sentence in-between the green dots?
  24. update: Recently tested my theory with a non-Wikipedia link, works.
