Thank you all. Just put out a new beta with the Hyperspin-like clear logo wheel view for platforms (as well as the new options for coverflow opacity and image quality, etc.). Going forward I'm going to take a break from the new views for a bit to focus on fixing bugs and downloading updated metadata in LaunchBox. There's still a million things that can be done yet with the views; we may or may not get back to them before the 6.0 release. I'm hoping to accelerate that release a bit just to get these new Big Box features out.

Beta 6 just went up. :)

have not received code or download link

Hi @dimercu9, thanks for the purchase and sorry for the trouble. Have you received the emails yet? I'm looking at the email logs and it appears that they all were sent. Email me at jasondavidcarr@gmail.com and I can re-send again if you need. :) -
"Best" is subjective. As far as I'm concerned, if you can't trust the results that an anti-virus program gives you because it gives you too many false positives, then your anti-virus is worthless. These anti-virus companies aren't held responsible for false positives, so many of them try to find everything under the sun and scream at the drop of a hat. Like the boy who cried wolf, users will end up accepting too many false positives and not even know when they have a real virus.

How could I forget!? Sorry guys. And the winners are... 1. @Cebion 2. @FistyDollars 3. @HardcoreHubz @Ruester, you were number 4, but you put in such a great effort, I'll go ahead and give all four of you a forever license. Please send an email to me at jasondavidcarr@gmail.com with info on who you want the license to go out to (name and email). Thanks! :)

Awesome to hear guys, thanks. I started the process to enable donations on YouTube but Google's system was crapping out on me. I'll revisit soon. :)

Hi @anyany, send me your LaunchBox.xml to jasondavidcarr@gmail.com and I'll look into what the problem might be. Thanks! :)

Yes, there will be pirates. I've chosen not to cripple the software with DRM and just deal with them. I did take some extra measures in 5.8+ to help prevent people from cracking the software, but other than that I do not plan to wage war on the pirates. We continue to gain the respect of the community, pirates and non-pirates alike, by choosing a DRM-free approach, and many would-be pirates have actually purchased the software due to our decisions. That said, cancer is cancer, and pirates are pirates. However, I know better than to believe I can ever truly eliminate piracy, and I know better than to waste time trying to, all while pissing off paying customers due to crippled DRM-laden software. Thanks for the report though, @anyany. As far as I know, no one has cracked or released any version past 5.7.

Hi @ptoleary, email me at jasondavidcarr@gmail.com with the email you used when you purchased your license and I can re-send it out. :)
-
Thank you @dukeemu! I can get an Italian translation package out for you soon. Hopefully before the end of the week. See Brad's translation thread link above for details. :)
-
Hi reddingmyst, email me at jasondavidcarr@gmail.com and I can re-send out your license file. The download email should work fine but every once in a while the email provider takes longer than it should. Let me know if you still haven't gotten the email.

2 years!? Holy crap lol. Maybe it's time we started a new thread. ;)

FistyDollars, we've actually only been using the local XML database ever since we moved away from TheGamesDB.net. I've just been updating it from the live data every time we put out a new version of LaunchBox. Fixing that is the first order of business next week when I get back into LaunchBox development (still on Big Box). Basically, I plan to provide a daily metadata update from the live data instead of constantly searching the live data directly, because it's just so much faster to do it all locally.
-
Hi guys, believe it or not, the data in LaunchBox isn't yet coming live from the LaunchBox Games Database. It's all local in the local XML database (sans for the images, which are downloaded from the site). I've been updating the local XML from the site when I put out new versions of LaunchBox. When I get back into LaunchBox development next week (currently working on Big Box stuff), I'm first going to implement a way to batch download/update all metadata from the LaunchBox Games Database, so you can use the latest data in LaunchBox. Having the metadata all locally significantly helps to speed up the import/update processes, so I plan to keep this approach going forward, but will be providing an automated way to download daily updates. Hope that makes sense, let me know if not.

New beta is out with the fruits of the live development session yesterday (and of course some work today as well). Both new views have alpha-numeric navigation and there's a new option to switch between views with a hotkey (you'll have to configure it in options because it's blank by default). As typical this early on in the beta releases, all is still up for discussion. I plan to spend the rest of the week on Big Box development and then get started on LaunchBox Games Database integration with LaunchBox itself next week. Obviously there is lots more development to do from all fronts before we drop 6.0. I will also be developing live on Twitch tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 9:30 AM PST. Yesterday's live session went really well so I'm excited to do it again. :)

Thank you all. I like the idea for CoverFlow reflection opacity options, and @shinra358, I love that view idea. Hopefully I can tackle something at least similar to that before 6.0. We'll see how things go. :) @Drybonz, thanks for the video. What video playback engine are you using (sorry if you've already answered that)? Do you have the same problem if you switch engines?
-
Hi @tibic, try changing your video playback engine. If you're using Windows Media Player, it may be that you need a codec installed as well.
-
I'd be willing to bet that particular user was confused. I've scanned everything up and down with Windows Defender and it found no issues.
-
Thanks, @Gofel. Can you add a ticket for that here? https://bitbucket.org/jasondavidcarr/gamesdb.launchbox-app.com

Big thanks to everyone. @Cebion and @FistyDollars, so glad you guys enjoy this and you're around. We'd probably drown if you weren't lol. So thank you. @Freestate, you have a point, and I was aware of potential issues there when I started the contest. However, I needed a way to push more moderations through, because I didn't want people waiting for their changes for months. That said, going forward I do not plan to hold any more contests. If anything, I hope to lock down the moderation process (make it significantly more difficult to become a moderator in the future). Hopefully, now that we're up and running, we'll be able to handle the load going forward and can lock it down a bit. And, of course, weed out any inconsistent or inaccurate moderators.

Thank you all. Unfortunately I'm knee-deep in (actually productive) development right now, so I don't think it would be wise to keep spinning my wheels trying to get past these unfortunate false positives. It really bugs the heck out of me that we're having these issues, but it seems like as soon as I manage to get past one anti-virus program, a bunch more pop up, so I guess I'd just end up drowning trying "fix" them all, and nothing would actually get done. Thanks to @weltall for noting that Hyperspin has been struggling with this as well. As a solution, my best suggestion is to exclude the LaunchBox folder in your anti-virus configuration. However, if you're running Windows 8 or Windows 10, I strongly suggest uninstalling whatever anti-virus program you're using, and using Microsoft's Windows Defender instead. It comes with Windows, is on by default, works very well, and isn't plagued by false positives like this. In my opinion, due to Microsoft's Windows Defender, third-party anti-virus programs are entirely obsolete and will only slow down your system and get in the way.

Sorry for the delay guys but I have new translation packages up for Polish, Russian, and now Swedish as well. :) Thank you all very much for helping us with this. See the beginning of this topic for instructions and details and the latest packages for download: https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/features/translating-launchbox#p2388 Let me know if you have any issues. Thanks!
-
Okay, thanks @weltall. Guess it's back to wasting more time tinkering to appease these crappy applications.
-
It's not Windows Defender. I just scanned 5.10 with the latest version of Windows Defender and had no issues. So we need to figure out what anti-virus application it actually is.
