  1. appollo147 said I don't know if you are familiar with this emulator as it is not not as well known as SNES9x, but it is by far the most cycle accurate SNES emulator ever. My problem is this, whenever I double-click a SNES game in Launchbox it opens Higan but it doesn't load the game. I know every emulator is different and some emulators need a specific command line to work properly. I was just wondering if their is a fix to get the games to auto load when using the Higan emulator. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. And as a side note I just want to say again that Launchbox is F'n amazing. So Bsnes is Higan for anyone who is curious, and they require a weird setup for roms to work before LaunchBox gets involved. If you are stuck on using Higan, my honest opinion is to switch over to RetroArch and use one of the many SNES cores available for it. Snes9X, Bsnes and some others are all available. It takes a bit of setup, but once you know how RetroArch works, its fairly simple and the best for a select few emulators. Otherwise you'll need to look up the command line parameters for Higan and experiment with what can work. From quick searches apparently the Command Line after Higan was started is obscured.
  2. bd000 said You could try Anti-Twin. Just point it to the ROM directory and it will find all files with similar names/sizes/etc. and line them up side-by-side so you can delete the ones you don't want. You can adjust the search filters to make it more/less accurate. http://www.joerg-rosenthal.com/en/antitwin/download.html It also has a portable version, so you don't have to install it. Just choose the "without installer" link. Well that would completely disprove my "how hard that is" theory. :P I usually try to see things from Jason's point of you. That said... I wonder what their license looks like.. xD How is its compatibility and results?
  3. joshuadk88 said I'm not talking about duplicates. The games just aren't there at all. No system. Nothing. On the left, there is a sorting drop down menu. You can't get any of the games to show up? You said you removed the platform so I assume you went in to Tools -> Manage Platforms and deleted one of the entries? Did you try adding it back? Are you in Big Box Mode or regular view mode? If you are in regular view mode, this shouldn't matter. Change the left side filtering to get back to the games. Try reimporting the games and this time check force duplicates. You could open your LaunchBox XML located where LB is installed, open it with a text editor like Notepad++ and search for the problem games and remove their entries. Another possible fix if you haven't added that many games yet is to create a backup of your LaunchBox XML. rename it LaunchBox.xml.bak and when you launch LB again, it will repopulate it with no games.
  4. Kriven said Forgive me if this feature already exists, but it would be handy if LaunchBox could locate doubles of existing games for specific platforms. For example, Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis should not be considered a double with Sonic the Hedgehog on Steam, but if two copies of the title exist for Sega Genesis, LaunchBox should be able to point that out. Well... it doesn't exist, but it could. Only problem is it could get to be very tricky. Would you consider Ocarina of time 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 duplicates? They're just different versions. Some times it behoves someone like us to keep multiple versions for Rom Hacking, cheats, or in the case of OoT, no cut content. In Links Awakening (not DX) you'd keep the first version so you can screen skip to the last boss really fast. Later versions keep this out, but the later versions also are usually based for Rom Hacks, at least with DX. So unless you want that glitch... It's sort of tricky... What about games with slightly altered names? Castlevania Symphony of the Night, or Castlevania SotN. These are just examples, im not trying to be mean but I have dealt with duplicates. A severe duplicate problem at that. My SNES folder sits at 826 games, but once was at over 2k. As much as this feature would be good to have... for most users I am not so sure. This is one such case where naming conventions are simply very different. One person has one preferred style, one has another. The different versions example I gave could be sort of solved by trying to scan version numbers granted, but I am imagining how difficult that entire system would be to code for Jason. Anyone have any ideas how this could work? Also how I fixed my problem was Windows and the search box. I had full rom sets. Searching "b1" "b2" etc etc etc then selecting all found and deleting them was the way I did it. Then i scrolled through and manually looked for some dupes. Then in LB when everything is imported I went over each section visually looking for them and now at this point I keep an eye out casually as its close to under control.
  5. joshuadk88 said I'd just like to report a bug. 1. Import the games 2. Delete the platform 3. Reimport the games 4. Launchbox won't detect the games anymore. Well, to be more specific, it sees the games, but it won't add them. This isn't a bug. LaunchBox wont reimport duplicates unless you tell it to. Not to mention when you import games. What you need to do is Bulk Edit all of the games. So for example, say you want to reassign a new PS2 emulator because you updated the emulator. Go to the PS2 section, Ctrl + A to select all of the games, then right click and edit on of the entries. A new box will appear and you can change certain values for all of the games at once. Select emulator and change it. Just because you delete the emulator after the games have been added, doesn't mean they're not duplicates anymore.

I presume that this isn't your first similar issue, and I would assume it wont be your last. yes did that already, NO fix, they are aware of the issue, and don't consider a problem nothing i can do with them .... :( i guess i just to give up with this program and keep using a folder with shortcuts until find another way to make TGDB work, perhaps a travel to a big city..... i don't like to travel :( Do you have other ISP options? I am really stumped as to what the hell is going on...

  8. Jason Carr said Wow, that's pretty cool. Too bad GOG has had this for ages. ;) nah, they've only had it for a few months, maybe a year. ;)

Enough said. SO HAPPY! http://fallout4.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lnn2rJpjar4
  10. Yea thank you. PayPal has done some updating recently... but they still seem to be backwards on their back end.
  11. LocalDB will insert the info, and you should still be able to get most images. The ones you can't: Right click any game entry and click edit. Bottom right will be a box where the images go, click it to add what ever you want.
  12. optimus0 said SentaiBrad said optimus0 said Jason Carr said Try turning off your VPN? i connect to internet using a vpn connection with user name and password if turn that off ... no internet i test in some other friends houses and the same result. but we all are using the same internet provider and the same method to connect so...... (in fact all town use this service) Erm... so generally an ISP doesn't issue a VPN. A VPN is an external service that a user generally pays for so that their IP is routed through other servers first before reaching the desired website. For example, if I used a VPN, it would bounce to say... 4 other server locations before ending up at its destination. Unless you are paying specifically for a VPN service, you shouldn't be using one. Your ISP and your VPN are separate. This could be different in other countries... but I am fairly sure that is not a standard practice. nothing is standard practice here, here 2+2 is not 4 and green and red i can assure you is NOT yellow any way ....so no workaround? any way to change the scrapper? like gamefaqs or something? BTW thanks for your help. :) No, GameFAQ's is not support through LaunchBox because they do not offer up their content for free. Us attempting to do so, which we could, could lead to users getting banned permanently from GameFAQ's. There are reports from another front end who's users got temp banned. The Games DB was chosen, and Wikipedia added on for specific reasons. They were relatively easy and offered their stuff up for free. This is something that has been discussed in dozens of threads at this point. Other wise, if you are using a VPN, there is no way to tell what your standard experience with The GamesDB should be. They've personally been giving a lot of users trouble but not related to VPN's.

  14. optimus0 said bd000 said They could be simply blocking the ip of the vpn. Too many requests maybe. but if that were true, i will not be able to enter their web through the web browser....!! /? i tried Kodi (old xbmc) adavanced launcher addon (it work like launchbox) and all scrappers are working but TGDB (REALLY DONT LIKE kodi/xbmc) any idea? or workaround? GDB may be blocking the access from your VPN, even unknowingly. There might be an IP that your VPN uses that for what ever reason they've blocked potentially.
  15. Jason Carr said Yeah, it's probably the VPN. And the captcha is definitely what is causing the problem. No idea why TGDB would do that... Bot protection. Isn't that generally the main reason for implementing them? To stop applications like LaunchBox?
  16. optimus0 said SentaiBrad said bd000 said @optimus0 are you using a vpn or proxy? I get errors consistently without the use of either. So while this could contribute to this specific case, GDB has been having unrelated issues as of recent. vpn, i think. Well they're close to similar but not quite. VPN's are generally a paid service. At least good ones. They're generally used to hide the source of your IP address. I'm still not convinced that this is the problem. I am convinced that it is GDB. I don't know if they fixed this, but even editing games was broken. You had to save what you did to an entry in a specific way. Add on this potential CAPTCHA thing... I am starting to think the Lights are on but no one is home type deal.

  18. optimus0 said SentaiBrad said optimus0 said Hello to all. I am getting this when trying to get any info from TGDB.net. An error occurred while trying to search TheGamesDB.net The remote server returned an error 403 forbidden. I can enter normally trough the web browser thanks As far as I know, this is still GDB sadly. They've been having... issues as of late. I will pass this on to Jason however to see if he can't double check to see if its still GDB though. If it is though, all the more reason we want to move on from them. thanks for the answer. i will wait en check again later, BTW each time that i try to enter GDB trough the web browser it ask for a captcha, i guess that could be the problem That... might actually be it... If they changed an aspect of the how the site works and our method is now obstructed... that could be it. Knowing how a 503 error works compared to a 504, this is most likely the situation. 504 is a denial when the IP tries to connect to the server and fails when trying to connect, a 503 fails when you're trying to get a response back.

Etock said Sorry to be a pest, but was wondering ... Is local image scraping still planned? I've seen videos mentioned in regards to BigBox, and that sounds awesome. I'd love to ditch searching for a new frontend to RetroArch but this is a major hang up for me. Thanks again for your hard work. As far as I know it should still be, but I would assume its low on the list. You can already change the images and the scrapers get a majority of the games for most platforms. PC Engine still seems lacking. The priority in this regard is our own Database, but BBM is still being worked on heavily and that is taking up most of his time.
  20. combstim4419 said I was wondering if there is a way to use Launchbox to play games that require the use of Daemon Tools such as a Sega Saturn Emulator or the use of an iso file to play a game. Any help would be greatly appreciated Yea there was a thread about this not too long ago. https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/emulation/trouble-with-yabause-through-launch-box

  22. Jason Carr said Thanks @Syriacn. I do have videos like that on my to do list. It may more likely end up in Big Box Mode before the desktop app, but it is planned. Per EmuMovies, that's another thing I have on my to do list, but I'm not sure the priority at this point, nor do I really know about the feasibility of it (whether EmuMovies would be willing or not, for one thing). They might be assuming we reach out to them.
  23. Syriacn said I have been using EmuMovies Download Service Utility version 2.2 for any missing artwork after a gamedb scan, EmuMovies will usually have it. Its free unless you want the video gameplay clips (and even those are free but you'll need to pay for higher quality) but Ill get to that. Lately I have been noticing that the artwork pulled from EmuMovies is a much better quality than that pulled from thegamedb, the contrast is better, the picture are more detailed and clearer, and overall high quality. So I have been going back through and replacing existing artwork with that pulled from EmuMovies. This leads me to a few questions. 1) Can launchbox pull from the same place? Can the use EmuMovies to pull from? 2) Can Launchbox incorporate video gameplay clips. I use to use Rom Collection Browser with my Kodi (xbmc) setup, and with that you could enable video gameplay clips. I switch to Launchbox for a million better reasons, but it would be nice to have this. Thanks Syriacn So the short answer is, its not promising outright. I 'believe' it is a similar deal with GameFAQ's. I wish we had GameFAQ's support, and I put Jason on the right path to being able to implement it. Then I found horror stories of a front end or some application that did pull from their servers en mass, and it was tragic. Some users got total IP Bans from their site. So even if a site doesn't have a license that outwardly forbids it, we're still at their mercy because if they don't want us contacting their servers in a way they do not like, they can and will ban traffic coming from that source. Now, that said, at the bottom of the site: "We partner with most front end designers with artwork content and integration solutions." So that is not to say we can't or wont, but Jason and I have been thinking of ways to incorporate our own Database; but I know Jason, everyone here knows Jason. He will not do it half ass, it will be fully feature rich and right for our community. So its just finding the time in the midst of all the other big projects announced and unannounced that he is doing by himself that holds this specific area's progress back. As far as Movies, I've shot him the idea of integrating a cloud solution to Music and Movies. Use OverClocked Remix and YouTube as a cloud plugin more or less that just serves you with native Internet Explorer calls built in to Windows what ever It can find assuming its accurate enough. On OCR I don't think we'd have that problem but YouTube we might due to the vast size of that website. This is one approach, but not the only approach. YouTube could have an interesting integration though depending on the keywords you feed it. For example, Name of Game, Platform then plug in anything else. Walkthrough, Achievement Guide, Lets Play, Trailer. It all depends on if the video has the proper tags associated with it. Something I deal with all the time. :P
  24. Jason Carr said Brad, upgrades from an i7 would probably be a minimal increase. But upgrades from that E6500 should be much more significant. Well, i7 First Gen which is extremely lacking at this point compared to a 3rd or 4th Gen i7 should show an increase. This would also allow me to have SATA3 and higher clock ram because I would need to change my motherboard. Also, Something else I can recommend ... maybe is to change the priority of the Process. I would do this one setting value at a time, and be careful because if you set it too high it could force a restart. More annoying than anything. Run LaunchBox then Open Task Manager and go to the Details pane from the top. Find LaunchBox, right click it and 'Set Priority'. Try increasing it one value at a time, and I wouldn't set it too high...
