  1. Syriacn said Hello, Im trying to get DOSbox to play in full screen. The games load great and play, but there in smaller boxed window. I have full screen checked in the DOSBox settings in Lunchbox. Thanks Let's take a look at your DOSBox config directly. Go to where LaunchBox is installed, the one you're currently using then open the DOSBox folder. For me its: E:\LaunchBox\DOSBox Then open the dosbox.conf with a Text editor like Notepad++. Once open, go past all the lines that start with # and you'll see the first line: fullscreen=___ It should say true here if you would like it to be fullscreen. This should make every game run in fullscreen.
  2. bd000 said marky parky said Now when you press Escape you'll be taken back to Launchpad :) *Cough* Launchbox Shhh
  3. Syriacn said Is this possible? I just started my MS-DOS collection, but when I imported it, it went under PC which my steam and modern PC collection is. Is is possible to create custom platforms, like a MS-DOS platform. Thanks You can change the platform to what ever you want. The GamesDB doesn't have an MS-DOS section, which Jason and I are going to try and fix in the future with a custom database. This is a problem we're all facing. My best advice for now, change all of your Steam games to Steam, import your DOS games then change them all to DOS. Ctrl + A to select all the entries in a view, i.e. press Ctrl + A to select all of your PC Steam titles, then right click one and edit. The mass Edit option will pop up and you can change any of the values from there. Once that's all set you can set your Steam games back to PC if you want. I personally keep Steam, DOS, GOG, Origin and Desura games separate.
  4. marky parky said Thanks for your help SentaiBrad but I figured out the solution, I'll put it here for anyone having the same problem in the future. SOLUTION... Open up the "zsnesw.cfg" file in Notepad and keep scrolling down to the following lines... ; Quit ZSNES / Load Menu / Reset Game / Panic Key KeyQuickExit=29 KeyQuickLoad=0 KeyQuickRst=0 KeyResetAll=7 All you need to do is change the line "KeyQuickExit=29" to "KeyQuickExit=1", save and exit. Now when you press Escape you'll be taken back to Launchpad :) Well there you go. Just find the numbers that correlate to the buttons on your keyboard and I guess you can change that to which ever you want. Edit: This leads me to wonder... what does 29 correlate to?
  5. marky parky said I do hope this is the correct place to post this, I already did a search on the forums but had no luck finding an answer to my issue. My issue is to do with ZSnes, everything works great except when pressing Escape to quite, instead of going back to the Launchbox menu I get the emulator menu... Is there anyway to bypass the ZSnes menu when quitting a game? Thanks in advance. You could try Ctrl + F4, that is the general combination to quit many different applications. ZSnes doesn't, as far as I know, have a button that normally quits out. If you put it in windows mode you can press Esc and then the X button in the top right.
  6. Yea that one made me laugh. xD
  7. Hippyshake said Thanks, that's great stuff right there! What I find so intriguing is the journey, not the destination. You can see how, for example, "You're the saddest bunch I ever met" became "You are a depressed banana I met." Here's another: Original text: LaunchBox finally gives me a way to see everything that I own already, so that I'm not making the same purchase on multiple platforms anymore. Use the free version, fall in love, and then show your support by grabbing the lifetime license. What came out is poetry. Sheer, beautiful poetry. The lunch box gave me the opportunity to see you there, I want to buy this platform. If you are using the version of demonstration that we love each other and support them, to show, to capture a lifetime on the surface. *sniff* Yea, translators are one of the funniest unintentional things of all time.
  8. bd000 said Tickled yourself there Jason, didn't you? Jason loves tickles.
  9. Yea translators are either too literal or the language you're translating in to doesn't have the same phrases or words and then when you translate it back the literal translation finds its way back in because we do have words to describe a lot of stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRLreV7uVy0 I love this video. Takes this song from a Disney movie I loved and... its hilarious. I watched all of the other Google Translate Songs on this channel. xD Edit: The words on the top are the original lyrics.
  10. Ok, I did a bit of testing. The game launched right away in DOSBox with "dott.exe" selected. I used ScummVM and pointed it towards the same directory and it launched right away. DOSBox launched a setup and ScummVM went right in to it. So it still up to you which way you'd like to launch it, I do prefer SVM for these adventure games but...
  11. happybandit said Thanks for the response. I think I didn't communicate clearly. I'm sorry about that, my mistake. My fiance lets me know that often! :P (Getting married in 11 days BTW!) I know where the directory is located, but ScummVM would not accept it as a game file. In LB, I have been to Edit>Additional Apps>Add Application and I set the location of ScummVM. ScummVM opens when I click on Toonstruck. When ScummVM opens, I click Add Game. I navigate to the folder of the game and it says "ScummVM could not find any games in the selected directory" Is there a setting that I am missing? Do I need to change anything in LB when I add ScummVM as an app? (IE Run before, Run after, etc.) Thanks again for all your help. You must download the ScummVM specific files. DOS files will not work. They must be ScummVM. Once you have those, put the files in with ScummVM or where ever you would like then open ScummVM and point it to the files. ScummVM doesn't use conventional DOS or Windows files. It will look drastically different. The files you have right now will only work with DOSBox. Are there any .bat files that you have? Start, Go, setup or anything of the like? If the ScummVM version wont work, and the DOSBox version continues to not work there is also the GOG version. Also, congratulations on getting married! Edit: So apprently DOS files should work with ScummVM. But I've honestly never tried because it was always presented in that you need ScummVM files. Let me test SVM without SVM specific files but I still think your best chance might be those or the GOG version.
  12. happybandit said Hey there. I hope this post finds everyone well. I am having an issue where my game installs great, but won't start. I click on it and the DOS window opens and fullscreens but then closes out. Briefly, you can see where it says: DOS/4W Protected Mode Run-Time, Version 1.97 Copyright (c) Rational Systems, Inc., 1990-1994 After that displays for a couple milliseconds, it goes away. The game is Toonstruck. Any help? Could be anything. Wrong file selected, settings are off. I would personally play this game with ScummVM. Otherwise if you are set with playing it through DOSBox what .exe, .bat or .com file did you select? Are you using game files from media or a download? http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Toonstruck And of course there is no page on it for the DOSBox wiki. http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/GAMES:Toonstruck
  13. dennisjj4 said I'm having trouble getting MAME games to work. At http://mamedev.org/roms/, there are a few freeware ROMs available. I tried to get "Gridlee' working after downloading it from there, and am having no success. Any walkthru on how to get this working? Also, TheGamesDB.org is useless for these free MAME games. Why no alternative? We don't have more alternate scrapers yet because they are very hard to implement. Also, we can't just take the data from every website. The website has to offer that data up for free or under a specific license so we can download it otherwise it can be considered theft. Also, GamesDB works on user submission, so if a game doesn't exist someone hasn't added it. Also, MAME is extremely tricky. The only course of action we can take with MAME, is getting the internal naming system and parsing the internal names to game names so that it can import correctly. Right now, some games can take multiple instances of rar files. Not only are you supposed to only launch one of these for a game, they're all names something generally indestringuishable from one another. Unless you memorized what each game "code name" is for MAME, you wouldn't know what it is by just looking at it. So we have to collect all the rar's for each game, convert the names to proper names then figure out the proper syntax to be able to get them to load. I have been thinking about this for several weeks now. Setting up and coding a system for LaunchBox that parses MAME dat files doesn't exist and will be a little hard to do. Time consuming at that. If you want to use MAME outside of LaunchBox it is still tricky. Personally, grab MAMEUI32 or MAMEUI64. It helps a ton. Find games you want to play and make sure you grab all applicable rar files. Some games will have 1 or 2, some can have 7, 10 or 15. Their either just multiple parts or patches. Some games will also have CHD files, so you will need these as well.
  14. Viremaster said I had updated to 4.9 several days ago, and wanted to add new titles to the library. However, when I tried to add them through the drag-and-drop option, I got the error in the title for each item. I then un-and-re-installed the program and started the database from scratch. Using D-fend conf and Steam username to add games worked fine, but there was no change to those added through the other means. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix for it? This is a general error, usually there is no direct fix unless there is an alternative. Can you reproduce this error each time? Can you copy paste the error code or give us a screenshot? Jason can figure it out if he knows the specifics of the Object Instance.
  15. d3vilsadvocate said Jason Carr said Ah, no kidding. Well, I can't say that *should* be happening, but at least we've found the culprit. Did you have "Use Any Controller" enabled? Do you mean Use All Attached Controllers? If so, nope. Also, I do not currently have any controllers connected. Will try again later to see if it actually makes any difference and report back. The controllers being connected as far as I could tell doesn't matter. That option being turned on is what does it. It is more pronounced with a library of my size. I would leave LaunchBox alone for 5 min, come back and it would completely lag out and stop responding. I could make the lag start and stop by just checking and unchecking the use controlers option.
  16. d3vilsadvocate said For some inexplicable reason the idle CPU usage is now at 10% and dropdown menus and such now lag significantly! However, I just switched off the game controller option as you suggested and app is now blazing fast again with the CPU usage <1%. Thanks for your help! This is what plagued me. I figured it out of pure frustration. X_X

Syriacn said Has anyone figured out an emulator for Android games that will launch through Launchbox? I have tried Andy and like it, but can't figure out how to launch games through Launchbox, same with Bluestack. I think it would be fun to play some of these games on my htpc. Because these aren't Emulators in the same sense that ePSXe, VBA-M, or Snes9x are Emulators it would require a different method of launching. There are no console commands to speak of, and mostly everything is done inside its own GUI. It is essentially a Virtual Machine that you would use for an old version of Windows or Linux to test out than just an emulator for games. The emulators don't also run the Operating System of the consoles, just the games. That said, if you can get BlueStacks to create a desktop icon for each app, you can add that shortcut theoretically. I know that when I click the information bubbles that pop up over my clock on my task bar, it will launch that game as long as BlueStacks is running in the background; not neceserilly open. Now that I type that, knowing how that works, you may not even be able to cold launch BlueStacks from what is essentially a hot link to launching the App. They're just not built with that in mind. Genymotion I don't think will have this ability either. That program is more developer centric in mind.
  18. d3vilsadvocate said Thanks, but it is all on SSDs here... Well the HDD its located on is on piece of the puzzle. It is primarily inherent to the size of your library though. Back in early version 3 it tend to be a lot worse. I am more curious however. I have a 10k+ library and I hover around 0% - 2% when sitting at the top of my Library. When it booted up, it pinged up to 15% and its not using more than 512mb of ram, which I set; but I can only make it ping to 2.5% when scrolling a lot. Do you get any other performance degrades? When LaunchBox has been alt-tabbed for sometime and you come back to it, does LaunchBox frequently halt and want to crash?
  19. d3vilsadvocate said Ever since the update yesterday (and maybe before that already, I'm not sure) LN is consistently using 5% of my CPU while doing nothing. Also, scrolling through the library now feels laggier than before (although it's not THAT bad). Any idea what caused this? Library size and/or the location of your Metadata. If its on an external USB2 HDD with a large library, it can also lag. It might not help, but also try clearing your cache images of unused assets as well.
  20. Jason Carr said Lol. I want other people's ideas too though. Right, people can suggest any name they think is good. Please do.
  21. So Jason and I have been discussing names for the upcoming 'Home Theatre View' codename Project Couch. Every other product gets a codename, so we get one just ... its not a secret. So far the names we've come up with that we would like the users to vote on are: LaunchBox Couch LaunchBox Home LaunchBox Center LaunchBox Nucleus LaunchBox Ace So if you wanna help shape the name for Project Couch give it a vote. http://www.strawpoll.me/4362669
  22. bd000 said Tools -> Download Metadata and Images a few lines down. No way! I completely missed the introduction of that feature. How long has that been there? I have been yearning for that feature for so long and to find out it is right there, I feel very silly. It's been there for several versions now. :P Its ok, It happens.
  23. bd000 said Yeah, I believe Steam preallocates disk space and creates shortcuts, start menu entries, etc. prior to actually downloading and installing the game. So it wouldn't be a stretch to believe that it creates the appmanifest files at this point too. I'm pretty sure a cancelled download leaves these files behind. I recall this happening to me before. I cancelled a download I started by mistake, but the shortcuts remained on the desktop, in the start menu and even in the uninstall list in the Program & Features area of Control Panel. I didn't check for a leftover appmanifest file, nor do I know what happened to the allocated disk space now I think about it. That was on an old machine, so no way to check now. Yeah, Windows leaves a trail of carnage in it's wake. You can get 3rd party unistallers that perform a "deep scan" for leftover files (including registry items) after a programs unistaller has finished. You might be surprised how often and how much, Windows lets apps leave behind. IOBit Uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller are two that come to mind. NOTE: It is worth checking the list of items they find before hitting the delete button and be careful of those that require a restart after unistall. They usually add a task to clean up locked files that couldn't be deleted at the time, this can cause issues. I had a problem with Samsung Kies (a program I already loathed) where I used IOBitU and the next time I restarted my system was crippled. In the end I managed to do a system restore, unistalled it and deleted the leftovers manually after a restart. I seem to have drifted of topic. Back to Steam, did you find/consider any other avenues to get the appid for installed games. I am actually considering shortcuts at this point. Put them in a directory and use those to get the appid. Everytime I install a new game, create the desktop shortcut and move it to that directory. When I remove a game, delete the shortcut. It is a bit of a dirty hack that requires manual intervention, but I will have full control over it and games I need to remove will be easier to find. I will also avoid the issue of Steam creating files for games that are not installed. In fact, I could just import the .url's as you would ROM's and I could use the emulator feature to bypass the "bulk edit additional apps" problem I am faced with. Also, I no longer need to inject the xml file. I won't get the benefits of the Steam scraper, but I can live with that since I create my own uniform covers for PC games anyway and I don't mind adding the metadata to a few games now and then. Also, that reminds me, do you have a "bulk download missing data" and/or "bulk download missing images" feature planned/in-the-works? Sorry for the long post. Tools -> Download Metadata and Images a few lines down. I use IOBit's entire suite of software personally. AdvancedSystemCare is my absolute favorite. I use IOBit Uninstaller to keep my PC clean when I uninstall stuff. I used it once to uninstall a Steam game, which then prompted the Steam dialogues, but the deep scan afterwards deleted all of my Steam games... so be careful. Just uninstall Steam games from inside of steam. Edit: Also as far as Steam image uniformity goes, in the options switch to just using Steam banners. They will all be their Steam banner with the same dimensions. This actually brings up my issue i have where I have too much dead space with Steam. If I could just edit the Steam views spacing, I could fit more per screen. But the spacing that works for that wont work for literally any other platform view because of the varrying size. So I think spacing and size options per view would be nice... but also I would imagine a nightmare to code.
  24. bd000 said Hippyshake said Ok, now I'm even more confused. I have Battlefield 3, Bejeweled 3, and Dolphin installed. Why isn't it seeing them for me? Beats me! Maybe Jason could shed some light when he returns from slumber. LaunchBox is trolling at this point.
  25. bd000 said So am I right to assuming when a game is uninstalled, Steam leaves behind the appmanifest file? This is what causes the issues? So you got the appid from the appmanifest files, then used the Store API to pull the rest of the information you need, or SteamKit or something like that? Sorry to keep pressing on this, but I am considering creating my own solution so I can import installed Steam games and it would help if I knew what problems you faced. It shouldn't leave behind anything. Sometimes if the uninstall fails or gets uninstalled some other way... well its a PC. Anything can happen. :P I know I had a lot of files that were invalid and it found a lot of games that were not installed.
