  1. Yea I couldn't convince anyone to give me their Windows 8 keys or 10 keys. :( I figured since it was free... the problem in my house at least, the 7 machine and two 8 machines (mine and my girlfriends) none of the keys are valid. xD
  2. That would be awesome. I don't think I am using any of the RTP data now... but who knows.
  3. One Drive can be disabled completely. It's mostly useless. BitTorrent should be, along with Steam, but I have Steam auto run too. IOBit Startup Manager reports Steam alone is adding 5ish seconds. It's all personal preference. Not to mention, who knows how final of a state W10 is in. Though its 8 days from release. I need to switch over. I just don't have a Valid 8, so im not accepting their "free" switch from an invalid 8. They'll be giving me an invalid 10.
  4. Do you have a lot of other programs running at start up? 85% of programs generally don't need to be. I am comfortable with editing a lot about how computers work. Disabling programs, services and scheduled tasks from running at start up is something I do on all my machines. Are you Running Windows 7 or 8 out of curiosity?
  5. Maddoc1007 said @SentaiBrad will be downloading your game tomorrow night is there any special instructions along with you post that i need to do? You need to download the RTP Data. I need to do some more testing to find if my game is still reliant on any of the data in it. I am hoping not to be, and I don't think I am... but It's hard to tell. I need to launch the game without it installed to find out.
  6. If you make it launch on startup as a regular program, it will just launch it along side with the rest of your PC and not mess with anything else.
  7. You can set programs to automatically run at start-up, just as you can turn them off from doing that.
  8. The way of Ctrl + F scans the entire XML and will replace them all at once. Edit: It will replace them all if you choose the "Replace All With..." function. There is one to count how many times that word or string of text is used, and another one to just highlight it.
  9. If you want to change path locations, this can be achieved by editing the XML. Load up your LB XML in Notepad++ or a competent notepad program. Ctrl + F. In Notepad++ you can find a specific string of text and replace it with something else. I'll use my scenario as an example. Previous I had two Emulator paths that I wanted to consolidate back in to one. In to F:\Emulator. So I searched the XML for N:\Emulators and replaced it with F:\Emulator. If all you want to do is replace part of the path just search for that section. Like You want to keep the Drive, but change the folder. I would search \Emulators and replace with \Emulator. As an example. You can really do what ever else you'd like instead.
  10. Maddoc1007 said thanks @scree to check if it was at my computer side that the problem was i did a sfc scannow clean bill of health. Did a startup repair no problems. Did a system restore still same problem updating LaunchBox. Updated graphics drivers still same problem. Did read that it could be a problem with windows reading sysmbols that can cause a ntd.dll error. So safetly say that the fault is on the the update side unless we have to download something that will allow windows to read the symbols that are included in new update because of the new translations included. If you're on Windows 7, you need to download language packs. If you're on 8, you might need language packs... but it should read other languages out of the box. I don't recall programs giving errors like this though. When I opened a Japanese language installer, it just didn't display correctly. I installed the language pack and it just put in all the characters. Also... the new language shouldn't be selected? Wouldn't the error only occur, if it was language based, when the language is trying to be used by the system?
  11. Jason might have compiled it incorrectly. He's offline right now... I wish I had another way to reach him.
  12. Kasdar said I was wondering if it is possible to remove or change the licensed name displayed at the top of LaunchBox. I would prefer not to have my real name displayed. No, it will not be removed, however Jason can change it to something else for you.
  13. Mute64 said Just updated to the latest Launchbox beta, unfortunately im now getting the error " your Launchbox. Xml file was somehow corrupted. Unexpected error of file while passing has occurred. Line 86092 position 9." So i have to use my backup xml file to boot up launchbox. Can you upload your XML file please?
  14. Yea, that info is kept with those Rom packs in a txt document. I also think the packs are more annoying than helpful. That is why No-Intro sets or Good Sets are... good. They're just good working roms. The only benefit to the Full Rom sets are the translated games for me. Downloading the pack and picking all of the games out when I needed to redownload all the roms to a console was a benefit. However, having to sort through most of the extra stuff can take hours when you don't want it. Also, I would imagine some zipped roms will give lower performance. I'm looking at N64 and DS specifically. I generally don't find it worth it to zip them all up. The size difference isn't enough to warrant the extra layer.
  15. Jason Carr said Thanks, Brad; yeah, I know what a CRC is, but I'm not clear on how that would really help with scraping images. I guess we could keep a database of CRCs, but that would probably be fairly problematic considering how many different versions of games there are. Maybe he means applying a specific crc to a platform? This image is for PS1 with this CRC, so this CRC is for the PS1 version? That's all I can vaguely think about. We can already easily accomplish that without one though right? ... Maybe the CRC to detect what rom it is so we know what platform it is? Only problem though is that there are several dozen dumps of each game out there, I can't see that being reliable long term.
  16. Jason Carr said Image files have CRCs in the file names you mean? No, but I think PS4 is talking about about MD5 hash checks. CRC is another version of that more or less. MD5 though I think you need to create where CRC is inherent. Cyclic redundancy check. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic_redundancy_check#Data_integrity
  17. So, TurboGrafx emulation gets really tricky. TurboGrafx-16 and CD... are very different. You should still use a BIOS with TurboEngine, but you shouldn't necessarily use it for Disc based games. When trying to load them you get a hard error. The emulator saying It will load the image driver automatically is a formality but as far as I know can't be disabled. The intent, If I get this right, is that you are meant to put your PCECD games in to your PC. It would then read and process them. You could do this with PS1 and PS2 presumably as well. A virtual CD drive might work with TurboEngine. Mount the .cue and then load TurboEngine? Or see if it will recognize it at all. I don't expect the formality to go away no matter what you do. I just accepted it sadly. It's really not worth that fight. Quite honestly, the PC Engine is almost completely ignored at this point. Unless recent versions of Retro Arch have gone a long way to making its core better, if your regular Turbo Grafx 16 games are running, just go with it for now. I have a few alternate emulators, and one of them wont even load any roms. .cue or .pce. Edit: Wow, I did get my alternate emulator to run well for some CD games, but its all dependent on what BIOS you have selected. So it looks some games require a very specific version of BIOS to run. I loaded the basic "CD-ROM System V1.00" and Adams Family loaded. Tried Beyond Shadowgate and it said it said it required a more advanced BIOS. "Super CD-ROM2 System V3.00". So then I tried loading Adams Family with it and it suddenly worked? However, v3.01 wont work at all on discs and no Hue card games loaded period. Aka .pce extension games. This is why I hate PC Engine emulation. Turbo Engine for .pce extension games, albeit with that damn prompt and PCEjin for disc based games. TurboEngine also still does require a BIOS. The same one RetroArch claims it needs. "syscard3". It's... a tad confusing. I'm sorry.
  18. DOS76 said Wait there are translation patches for some games so you can take Japanese only games and patch them to use English that is pretty cool. I'm interested in learning more about this. I assume that most European games unless they have a specific country code have an English language option. Yea, most Europe games if they are exclusive you can still play. And yes, English Patches exist for a ton of games as well as other languages. http://www.romhacking.net is one of my favorite places to get English Patches for games. If a rom says (T+En) or something similar to that, it will most likely mean its translated. I love jRPG's and have a ton of them fan translated. There are tons of patches out there that are not on the RH site either. A lot of translation groups have their own websites and some rom forums have links to translation pages or some of the groups home pages. Aeon Genesis is a good translator group.
  19. DOS76 said Brad those settings are all there it is just that Fusion doesn't recognize .7z files which is what I linked to it I am totally worried that I will have to set up the whole platform again which will be bad since I already put a lot of time in on it. On top of that when I extracted all of the 7z's I got all kinds of roms betas, bad dumps multiple regions so now I am working in explorer to get it all sorted. If I delete the platform will it remove image files from the local DB or will they still be there and associated with the game names. That is why I stay away from Full Sets. They're more annoying than helpful. If you can find a "Good Set" or a "No Intro" set they're sets that are just what they say. No 20 different versions of a game. When I did get two Full Sets what I did was just use explorer to get rid of the extra's... but it took a while. There is no way around it. I searched for "b1" "b2" "b3" "b4" etc. I searched for all the variants and deleted them in the search window. It was great to easily get a lot of the games I would manually apply translation patches to, but that is a small bonus that does not out weigh the extra work. Also note that some European games names can differ from the N. America versions. Like Contra in N. America and Japan but Cybernator in Europe. Even after I did the broad searches, I was still deleting duplicates for a long time.
  20. DOS76 said I have Kega Fussion as my main SMS, Gens, 32X, SCD, SG-100, GG and Pico emulator on LaunchBox today I was messing with it and saw that it was rendering terrible so I opened Kega and changed some graphics settings and everything was working great then I test on a few different platforms and ran into an issue with launching Genesis Games it seems to be launching them to black screens with no sound the only reason I think it may have launched anything is the FPS monitor that show in the bottom left corner. If I close the Launchbox instance of Fusion and open it directly then it launches the games without any issue. Any clue what might be causing the issue. Kega requires some command line parameters to function correctly. These settings should have automatically filled in when you set the emulator up, but if they didn't then set them to this image. http://i.imgur.com/YcBtxtq.png
  21. Shades2585 said In LB 4.9 When I right click on the image of my DOS game and select Delete it only removes the shortcut but does not delete the game nor does it delete the Image folder. Also if I have to reinstall a game several times it creates several copies of the game image folder with the same images in them. Has this been fixed in your new Beta? Keep up the great work. Sincerely, Shades These are not bugs. Deleting any game entry inside of Launch Box is not meant to delete the game in its location located on your hard drive. Nor will it delete the image folder. You need to clean the image cache from time to time. Tools -> Clean Up Images (which is near the bottom). Image handling has been changed in how its stored which you can see in the Beta and will be in 5.0 but Clearing the Image Cache is something that you still need to do from time to time. Also, if you update to the beta or when 5.0 is released it will automatically transfer all your images to the new image storage method.
  22. Also, make sure that LaunchBox closes from the background. Sometimes the error can change, but I would say most errors are from LB not fully shutting down or incorrect downloading on the programs side. Just open Task Manager to make sure LB closes when you update. I force close it every time. It goes faster. Task Manager can be opened with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  23. So as far as I know, the PC Engine cores require a BIOS, but even when I had the BIOS there, and several different versions of it, it never wanted to work right for me. Well... some games did, some didn't. Air Bonk was one that did not. Honestly, skip RetroAch for PC Engine consoles. Grab Turbo Engine for these reasons. RA is good... for some emulators and just because some work also doesn't mean its perfect for that system either. In this case, RA isn't even a question of being good or not.
  24. raven_rvz01 said Thanks @bdoo i ended up adding them one by one hehe.. I see great potential on this app. I look forward to making this software an all in one GUI (Games, Media Integragation, Chat feature etc.) @Jason the big box is already looking awesome, hope you give it more like a console type interface on the final build and direct boot to big box. I used to follow this guy from xbmc/kodi community but i think he's gone for good: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=167601 Cheers! As far as I know, other media is currently up in the air still. Kodi does that job pretty damn well personally. The major question is, does a majority of people want LaunchBox for TV shows and Movies? Also, I don't see that being a normal feature but a Premium Feature. I don't make that final decision though. LaunchBox's statement has been for games. We also don't want to put core features behind the premium wall. However, other media is not a core feature even if the decision to encompass other media is made. The heart and soul is still games.
  25. DOS76 said To add more to this I just noticed when I originally go to edit a game if I go to emulator first VBA is already set but when I link it to the DB the emulator field gets cleared. That would have to be the bug then. Edit the games, grab the info then bulk edit back in VBA afterwards? It's dumb to have to do that but until the big gets fixed by Jason...
