  1. Whilst staging old VCR tapes for a trip to the 'special' recycling center (they take hazardous household waste, electronics, etc.), I came across a tape with Rudy Coby on it. I don't have a VCR player anymore, but thanks to the Internet, I was able to watch it again. It's from a couple of decades ago, but I still find it somewhat amusing. Rudy Coby (aka Labman) is/was a comic magician. Rudy Coby: Four-legged Man (about 3 minutes)
  2. ps4isthefuture said My favorite builds are AMD based builds, personally. I love the power to dollar ratio. I know that Intel and Nvidia out perform, but if you can build a rig close enough to the performance and save a ton of money, why not. You can used the money saved for a 4k monitor, or speakers, or pay for the groceries for a few weeks. But that is me, I have always been a supporter of the so called underdog, in many things. Yeah, ps4isthefuture, I like AMD as well, and for the same reason (the power to price ratio). Part of it may also be related to my employment history. Way back, when I worked for DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation), they sold the 64-bit Alpha Chip to Intel. It took them 10 years to get it going. Lame! Here's another one of my pretty useless, only somewhat related to this topic, trinkets (it was a display for marketing, and has a way to prop 'em up all at once - but I was too lazy to do that ) - (photos tilted to keep my reflection out): Anyway, for now, I'm stickin' with the underdog (AMD). I'm currently runnin' an AMD FX-8350 (4GHz/8-Core) CPU. I recently snagged two AMD Sapphire Tri-X R9 290X video cards off Amazon for $270/ea (after a $20 mail-in rebate, per card). Currently, the same card on Amazon is $700 (are you friggin' kiddin' me???). The only thing is, I need a full-sized tower case, as my current case is 'mid-sized', and the foot-long cards don't fit in it (by about 0.5"/13mm). Oh well, I want a case that has better cable-routing options, anyway. I'm lookin' at a Corsair Graphite Series 760T Full Tower Windowed Case - White, but if anyone cares to suggest something else, I'm receptive to change. I've been building my own systems for years, but I want to go liquid-cooled this time around. If anyone has any suggestions and/or links to liquid-cooling build tutorials, I'm 'all ears'. I'm a bit apprehensive about a liquid-cooled build, but I like to believe "I'm an old dog that can learn new tricks". P.S. I'm lookin' forward to runnin' PCMark 8 on my yet to be built system, to see the results. P.S. #2 Hmmm... I'm gettin' hungry, so it may be time to order a pizza!
  3. Project Fi is a new wireless service the company claims will deliver faster speeds and better coverage with a unique, economical approach to pricing.
  4. Click here for PCGamer's report on this. Numerous others reported on this, too. Just 'Google' "case mods at this year's computex" to see 'em. I'd have a difficult time selecting my favorite Case Mod, as so many of them are impressive works of art!
  5. Thanks, bd000. That was the solution. Don't know why I didn't think of it. Guess my brain is still a bit rattled.
  6. Ah, crap, I put this in the wrong Forum (wanted to put it in Games), but I can't see how to delete it (so I can repost it in the correct one).
  7. I have a game, Crazy Machines, that launches one of five games from this Launcher: Would there be a way to pass-on a 1,2,3,4, or 5 through some mechanism, as you would with Edit/Additional Apps, so if I right-clicked on the 'master game', I could see the five choices, and say, left-click on 'New from the Lab, and it would pass-on a 3, and launch that game for me? Have it look just as is does from Edit/Additional Apps, but clicking on one of the sub-games would pass on that single digit to the Launcher, and launch the chosen game, instead of launching another path/executable: I hope that makes sense. Granted, it's surely just as easy to launch the Launcher and type a number, but I want to follow more of the overall LaunchBox format, as in the Sam & Max example, as seen above.
  8. Cool idea. I think I may buy a few. SnapPower

    Doom 4

Was Doom the 1st FPS game, or was it Wolfenstein (or something else entirely)? I remember some people saying it made them dizzy, or something like that, when they played Doom. Considering the graphical improvements the games have made in the last 2+ decades, it makes me wonder what will be lookin' at in another 20 years. Graphics Card technology seems to improve every 6 months (or whatever), but we must be nearing the pinnacle of perceivable clarity in the 2D realm. For me, anyway, on a reasonably sized screen (not this one (500mx32m)), I don't believe I'll be able to detect much greater clarity than is currently available. I suppose in the VR arena is where we'll see the crazy improvements in the next decade (or less). Ya gotta love it!

    Doom 4

SentaiBrad said Yea I've been watching E3 the past 3 days. I'm so excited. Watching Nintendo right now. SO EXCITED. Watching that puts me in the "kid in a candy store" mode. I want it all!
  11. bd000 said Cadet Stimpy said bd000 said Angry ex maybe? Well, she's certainly capable of that. When I got divorced, the cops were involved, and they had to use handcuffs (but not on me). But that's another story. Wow, sorry. Glad to hear you got your bike back. Hopefully they will get their protocols sorted. No apology's necessary. It wasn't so fun when it happened, but it makes a great "OMG" story now. Yeah, hopefully they will, and I don't have to buy a new bike, either.

    Doom 4

Well, it's not due out until next Spring, but check-out this trailer: Doom 4 Some serious carnage and mayhem in this one (of course)! The graphics look top-notch (be sure to switch to HD). I still have the original Doom (and even the box) on four 3.5" floppies. (I suspect Doom 4 won't fit on 4 floppies. ) It looks so pixelated now, but was cool in its day.
  13. My bike has been recovered! Super-annoying part: The hospital had it the whole friggin’ time! First, I’d like to apologize for blaming the now-known-to-be-fictitious bike thief, but after numerous inquiries to the hospital, police, fire department, and ambulance people, everyone was claiming they didn’t have it, so I assumed it had been stolen. I eventually made one final round of calls, and learned the hospital had it, but had ‘misplaced’ it (for several days). Really??? According to one of the security supervisors I spoke to there, their protocols for these types of things are going to be revamped, so some good may come out of it. My car dealership wouldn’t take the fancy-pants key-fob back (since it’s now ‘used’), but they did give me a $70 ‘store credit’, which is certainly better than nothing.

  15. bd000 said Whooaa! That looks painful pretty boy. Glad your OK though (within reason) and I find it disgraceful that someone left you for dead and stole your bike, not to mention the other hitting you with their car and driving away. The world can be a dark place. Also... I hope you don't mind me asking... But, you don't owe "people" money do you? All the best in your recovery. First of all, thanks very much to all of you who had concern for my 'situation'. Sympathy helps raise my spirits. bd000, as it turns-out, I didn't owe thugs any money (this month).
  16. The Monkey Forum was experiencing a bit of a lull, so I figured I'd throw this in here. A hit-and-run driver sent me flyin’ (I was on my bicycle) the end of last month, but it was the relatively abrupt stop of the 'crash landing' that really hurt. Well, I can’t really say it hurt right then, as I was knocked unconscious (thankfully, I think). The picture was taken not long after returning home from the ER. Stats: About 40 stitches, facial fractures, concussion, cervical neck fracture, and shit-loads of abrasions. Fun fact #1: While laying (or is that ‘lying’) unconscious on the pavement, someone stole my bike. Fun fact #2: My keys (car and house) and garage door opener were ‘on’ the bike. Fun fact #3: It cost over $310 w/taxes (are you friggin’ kiddin' me?) to replace my fancy-pants car key (fob/physical key and programming). Anyway, I’m ‘on the mend’, but, I’M TOO OLD FOR THIS SHIT! I wish I could say this was the worst thing that ever happened to me, but it wasn't. Well, the older ones gets, the more 'stories' they have to tell. I just need some more that have 'happy endings'. A few comments from some of my friends: 1) Steve: "That pic does show a marked improvement in your looks." 2) Robert: "Lovely pic...post it to Match.com. You'll get a lot of hits." 3) Gail: (An addendum to her first message) "Oh and this… http://bfy.tw/Acf." P.S. I told Karma they had the wrong guy. Karma wasn't buyin' it.
  17. bd000 said Now that's some valuable information right there. Awesome, thanks Stimpy. You're quite welcome, bd000.

  19. Okay, so a lot of it is a Castrol oil commercial, but it's still pretty cool, IMHO. Titanium Strong Virtual Drift 'finished product'. (Available in HD). Note: Virtual Ken Block shows-up at about 1'55". Here's "The Making of" video, if you're interested. P.S. I wish they would've show a bit more 'footage' of what the driver saw, though.
  20. Jason Carr said @SentaiBrad @bd00 @Hippyshake @Maddoc1007 @CadetStimpy @scree @CliveBarker @DOS76 @Kriven I just want to say thank you to all you guys for all your support with this project. You guys are the core of this community, and I'm blown away on a daily basis by the sheer amount of effort that you all put in. Your feedback, help on the forums, and general support has proven invaluable time and time again. LaunchBox would not be anywhere near what it is without you guys in particular. So for that I want to extend my sincere thanks. I'm sending you all $20 Amazon gift cards; I know it's not much but I hope it's enough to show you guys that I really do appreciate everything you do. Thanks, Jason Thanks so much, Jason. Despite what you say, $20 is a lot, considering I don't deserve any of it. Hooray to the coolest programmer (and all-around, nice guy) ever!
  21. bd000 said Very interesting. Also, worms already dig holes FYI They do? ()
  22. Jason Carr said Yeah, thankfully, Windows doesn't prompt with it on automatic upgrades. It only happens when you download it via a web browser and then run the setup, I think. Yeah, that seems right. I did download the exe file and upgraded with that, instead of the automatic method.
  23. It's been reported that the Angry Planes & No Clip Mods in GTA V have a virus. Click here for more info (this can, of course, be cross-referenced on other Websites).
  24. bd000 said That's cool. Now how far away from teleportation do you think we are? ... Teleportation? Maybe a century. Between the unquestionable advances (at a sometimes mind-boggling rate) between cloning, 3D-printing, ultra-high-speed data transfers (we've already achieved speeds of 43 terabits/second with a single LASER) and any other applicable sciences, Teleportation, as with 'all of it', is just a matter of time, IMHO. Did I mention Worm Holes? Some years back, Gordon Moore (co-founder of Intel Corp and Fairchild Semiconductor, and 'creator' of Moore's Law) expected that “the rate of technological progress is going to be controlled from financial realities.” So, as large economic forces, such as the U.S., collapse (if it does, but it doesn't seem so unlikely, these days), technological advances will, of course, slow way down. But, if Humankind lasts long enough (without economic disaster, etc.), "Beam me up, Scotty" is likely to become a reality, I believe. How many things that were once considered impossible, are we doing now? Crap loads, that's how many! "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." - Arthur C. Clarke
  25. Jason Carr said Lol, what's the point of that? Those scientists must've spent most of their time organizing their game collections. ;) "...organizing their game collections"! Maybe I'm just in a silly mood, but I thought that was really funny. Good one, Jason!
