Surprise! New home theater alpha coming out soon...
Hippyshake replied to Jason Carr's topic in Features
Jason Carr said However, here's what we do need. We need a name to use to put on the button, and a name to use to put on the second EXE file that runs the home theater view. The button I'm thinking would be "(something) Mode", but "(something) View" probably works as well. I keep running back to "Big Box" mostly because it works well to put "Big Box Mode" on a button, and it also works well to have "LaunchBox.exe" and "BigBox.exe" as the EXE file names. Then we could use "Big Box Mode" and "Desktop Mode" and still call the entire app LaunchBox. As a button name within LB, I do like "Big Box Mode"; it ties into the "Box" in "LaunchBox" and also is similar enough to "Big Picture Mode" that anyone familiar with Steam will already have an idea as to what it does. -
I'm speechless. That's not necessary, brother. I believe in you, and I believe in LB. We also share similar faiths, you and I, although we haven't talked yet about it. :) I also don't think I've done nearly as much to contribute as those other fine folk you mentioned. You're a good guy, and I enjoy these forums and talking with you (so my motivations, therefore, are completely selfish!). Cheers, my friend.

Jason Carr said Very cool Kriven. This is extremely long-term, but I'm thinking eventually we could put a drop down at the top of the side bar for the type of media (Games, Platforms, Books, Movies, TV Shows, Music, etc.). And then have customized views and filtering for all of them. See? Just "LaunchBox." Don't need any fancy-shmancy appended subtitled second names. Just LaunchBox. It's what's for dinner. (Seriously; it's clever, it says exactly what the product does, and it's short and easier to remember, and it's already non-game specific. Why confuse the buyer? My unsolicited 2 cents.) @Kriven: That is a seriously, seriously excellent idea.

@Jason Carr: Ah, I see. Personally, I'd just leave it as LaunchBox, but I think I'm still confused. :P BigBox makes more sense now that you've explained the concept, though. -

portachking said How about "LaunchBox Theater"? It's quite vague yet I think most people can figure out what it gets at. I don't think it's vague; I was going to suggest LaunchBox Cinema or LaunchBox Multiplex as an alternative, so I think it makes perfect sense. @Jason Carr: Your point about "Home" is well made, sir. :) With all the names being bandied about, i think I'm confused as to what it's supposed to be. Is it to display the user's movie collection, or is it more like Steam's Big Picture mode, or something else entirely? -

DOS76 said I think they would be really offended if you called it RaunchBox I have a few Asian friends who definitely would be! ;) Jason Carr said So is "Couch Mode" aka "LaunchBox Couch" the running consensus? I'm still torn on it, personally. Not to gum up the works, but my two favorites have been LaunchBox Home and LaunchBox Screen. I'm kinda "meh" about Couch and BigBox (which I could see people mistaking as a cataloging system for stores such as Big Lots, Wal-Mart, Sears, et al). Couch is kinda cute, but you only get the joke if you already know what the product does. No offense meant. -

I have nothing useful to contribute. I just wanted to say it's been quite exciting watching this thread develop. -
Good looking out for the rest of us.

Me. For the past few days, they've become completely unreliable. Luckily, the forum is small enough that it doesn't take long to search for new posts manually.

Kriven said I really, really hate having the letter tabs pop-up as you scroll through the library, though. That's always a pain in the neck. Ugh. I second that. -
bd000 said That's cool. Now how far away from teleportation do you think we are? ... I remember reading years ago that scientists were actually working on teleportation, and that they had managed to scatter atoms, but not the reassembly part. I always figured that was called an "explosion," but then, I'm not a physicist. Just for kicks, to see if there had been any development, I googled "real life teleporter." First I was excited, and then I felt mislead. Not even close.

Cadet Stimpy said bd000 said LOL I bet he was in the war. AM I RIGHT CADET! *sergeant major voice* LOL! No, but I was in the Army. Went in, in 1970, but went to Berlin, Germany (The Wall was still up then), after schooling in Massatwoshits, instead of Vietnam. I was glad about that. Those beer-drinkin' Berliners generally weren't trying to kill you. Is that you, Captain Jack?? O_O

Terrific surprise, Jason. Being a fan of nested systems such as Windoze Explorer, I was going to suggest that games be nested inside systems (because I hate having to always click "back," and because it's just easier to see the organization). I'm loving bd000's workups, too; the sliding right pane and bottom screen caps are solid ideas, and they look great.. -
I voted for Other: Project Expanding Ass. :D

Cadet Stimpy said Click here, Hippyshake. Here's a video that show's many of their robots that were in that other clip, plus others, such as Big Dog. Seeing it regain its balance on ice at about 2 minutes in, is a lot better than I could do when I lived in New England and started slipping on ice. I finally had a chance to watch these, and all I can say is...Good Lord. They say that truth is stranger than fiction; I say Skynet just got a whole lot more real...and scarier. Freaky, watching those legs stumble and try to correct themselves. And when that dude kicked it, I was waiting for it to come at him. :D Amazing. Thanks for sharing these. bd000 said I fear one day I will find a naked video of myself on YouTube, because someone happened to fly one past my window after I got out of the shower! My girlfriend wants to know where you live. *cough*

What game are you playing now, and how do you like it?
Hippyshake replied to CadetStimpy's topic in Games
bd000 said Excellent idea. And you have to have DRM! Also, crappy customer services, so this forum will have to go. No, no, NO!! The forum must stay, so that people can complain about how The Powers That Be never check it. :) -
Jason Carr said bd000 said I envy you guys, I just can't do it. Granted, I might not collect everything and I might rush it, but I have to play the story through to the finish. If I try put it back on the shelf, it doesn't stay there long because I just get the urge to "put it to bed" like I need closure or something. It is weird and probably means I am a tad mad, but I like to believe that a dash of madness is not such a bad thing. Funny, I envy you lol. Would be nice if I completed more games, that's for sure. I was thinking the same way. I feel like I've wasted so much money on games I'll never finish. Jason Carr said Hippyshake said Also, there seems to be a game missing on shelf 2. Hmmm. Sorry, I "borrowed" it. ;) Wow, nice collection, btw. Thanks. It's pretty much all that's left. :)

Bummer...the video has already been removed. Any chance it's somewhere else?

I'm having trouble with files that are larger vertically than horizontally. Is there a specific size they should be (or is it in the to-do list, or is there a way to center or resize images within LB)? Allow me to show off my 4 month old grandson as an example. I've tried resizing the original file, but it always looks like this (in varying degrees of quality depending on the size, of course): Original file:

Cadet Stimpy said That spider made me wet myself a little. I'm in a retro mood lately, thanks to FFVII. I bought it through the EA website in July 2013 but horrible support and an inability to log in (because you can only play if you're connected to the Internet, despite it originally being a PSX game) left me unable to play it until last month, when I was FINALLY able to get it sorted. I typically play more than one game at a time, so here's what I'm currently enjoying (I'm perpetually building my mod in Grimrock, not really playing): -
Non-installed Steam/GOG Galaxy/Origin games import feature
Hippyshake replied to CliveBarker's topic in Features
This was much better. It's picking up some previously missed games, but it's also back to identifying "dosbox.exe" as a Windows file. :) I'm not complaining, though...this is a big improvement.
