Good to know, I haven't looked at BigBox's settings for a while. I did have issues with Windows 10 stealing focus from BigBox on startup in Windows 10 originally though, and the Launcher4Kodi solved that issue when using Kodi. I would probably advise going with Windows 7, most of the issues I had with getting things to work as I wanted were because of the way Windows 10 handles things.

I have a PC working doing exactly this at the moment that I built over the last month or so. I ran into no real major issues with it, but I do not boot directly into LaunchBox, but instead into Kodi for media playback, and then have an addon for Kodi that will open BigBox and switch back when I am finished playing games. The advantage with using Kodi is that it has nice shutdown commands for the PC, and also a file manager that works with a controller. I used a program called Launcher4Kodi that forces Kodi to keep focus on startup, otherwise it will go into the background and the controller will not work. This program will also replace the shell, but I have not done this yet, but I might in the future for a more streamlined experience. I am running Windows 10, and am using a couple of wireless Xbox 360 controllers. I have not needed to plug a mouse or keyboard in for normal use, and only need them for customising the backend setup in LaunchBox, like tweaking emulators and such. I don't use any outside programs for control, the controllers work perfectly in both Kodi and BigBox for navigation.

GatoSoft said Why am I cruel? I didn't understood... xD Sorry, wrong person, I meant @CliveBarker, your name was at the top of his Rick Roll post! I was so disturbed by the images I saw that I blamed the wrong person!

@GatoSoft, Cruel!

The issue is that the data we have is from the GamesDB, which was pretty lacking for Amiga. Jason is working hard on the LaunchBoxDB, and when it is ready to accept new data, which shouldn't be too long, then we will be able to add every missing platform and game. I too am hanging out for Amiga, but it won't be long now.

I actually think I had something similar, but I remember it being much less 70's brown, more an off white. Classic, but having played pong recently, I can't believe how much time I spent playing it when I was a kid, that game gets boring pretty quickly now. I guess we are pretty spoiled for great games now, amazing to think how far we have come in such a short time Pong was released in 1972, just before I was born, and in my lifetime we have gone from that to games like Fallout 4!

New to Launchbox/Emulating - Dumbed Down Step-by-Step Directions?
CADScott replied to Hamfighter's topic in Noobs
Is there a particular system you are trying to add? Some are a lot trickier than others to add and get working, MAME for instance is very fussy with the configuration of the roms (Nothing to do with LaunchBox, but gives many new players a lot of problems) If you give us some information about the exact system you are trying to set up and which emulator you are attempting to use, we should be able to point you in a better direction. LaunchBox itself is very easy to use and setup, but the configuration of emulators, bios files and roms can be very difficult. I suspect the issues you are having are more likely related to those items rather than LaunchBox itself. -
It is crazy how talented some people are! Very impressive stuff, some great movies there, and amazing programming skills as well.

Another option is to set up your LaunchBox install to use Symbolic Links in windows to link your paths to the standard LaunchBox paths. I have my LaunchBox setup on three different machines, all with very different storage setups, so I set up LaunchBox to use it's the standard media storage locations, and then use symbolic links to the locations that are unique for each machines setup. In this way every LaunchBox install I have sees the Game path as being in C:\LaunchBox\Games, but the links point to the rom storage area on my secondary drives. This allows me to sync and move my library between all machines without breaking any paths to media or roms.

Thanks for updating ScummVM Jason, I have been waiting for that one! Great stuff once again.

The Raspberry Pi, even the 3, really does not have enough power to emulate smoothly anything beyond N64 / PSX era. I have done a lot of experimenting with the Pi and have always gone back to using a PC for emulation due to frustrations with inconsistent performance. Even a low end PC will run rings around an embedded platform for emulation, and a PC also gives you more choices of individual emulator and controller. Nothing better than playing the GameCube version of Mario Kart (Double Dash) with my kids, and having it in hi-def and run a solid 60fps!

Looking great! I will do some more testing, I just updated my MAME to the latest rom set so I will test some more tonight.

Works fine on Windows 10, I have LaunchBox running on Windows 10 64bit, Windows 10 32Bit, and Windows 7 64bit, I have a wireless 360 controller working perfectly on all three systems. The issues that people seem to be having with Windows 10 are related to the Xbox One controller, and Microsoft's changed to Direct Input, but this does not seem to effect the 360 controller.

You can definitely do this, you need to check your settings in this area: This will enable you to hold the start and select button at the same time on the controller, which will exit every emulator. Make sure you have Joystick input enabled as well, in this page of the options:

I will have a good look at the settings in the online portal and try to turn off span for anything to do with LaunchBox, but hopefully Jason can reset the error at your end. Apologies, @CADScott. I looked into how to reset it and got nowhere. So I'm moving on for now. Pretty odd, that's for sure; sorry for the trouble, wish I had a good solution for it. Ouch, that is a bother! I might have to set up a custom email alias just for LaunchBox then! Hopefully it is something that can be fixed in the future, it certainly might effect someone else if they have any auto spam filters. I have set up a new email alias for LaunchBox, and I am now getting emails again, yah!

No problems, @mathflair has done a great job with that tool, I use it often so if you have any issues, I should be able to help you out. There is also pretty good documentation for it on the first page of the LaunchBox Annotator Tool page.

Extremely slow EmuMovies downloads through LaunchBox
CADScott replied to CADScott's topic in Troubleshooting
Looks like they are back to a more reasonable speed now, I am getting around 400 - 500 KB/s which is ok. Seems like they were having some temporary issues. -
Extremely slow EmuMovies downloads through LaunchBox
CADScott replied to CADScott's topic in Troubleshooting
I have relatively fast internet compared to most where I live(It is expensive though!), about a 30MBit connections, so the speeds I am getting are not due to my connection. I actually tried connecting to their FTP server, and am still getting the same connection speeds, not much more than 20kB/sec, which is so painful to get anything! Going to try going through my VPN see if that makes a difference. -
You can do this with the LaunchBox Annotator Tool that @mathflair has developed. It is a fantastic tool that can assign the region and language fields automatically from the file names, as well as a host of extra functions. The thread with all the info is here: https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/features/launchboxannotator-tool

Extremely slow EmuMovies downloads through LaunchBox
CADScott replied to CADScott's topic in Troubleshooting
I have noticed recently that downloads of media from EmuMovies is extremely slow. I am a lifetime member of EmuMovies, so there should not be any restriction on my connection. I just did a test and added 20 Sega CD games that I had not added before. I set the download options for EmuMovies to be only Manuals, Music and HQ Videos, and left it to run while monitoring the transfer rate with resource monitor in windows 10. When the images were being downloaded from the LaunchBox database, my connection maxed out at about 4MB/s, but when getting the media from EmuMovies, the average connection speed is around 25KB/s, which means it took nearly 1.5 hours to import the 20 games! I checked the total data downloaded, and it was only 60MB of manuals, and 64MB of videos, with no music files at all. Does anyone else have this issue with their connection to EmuMovies, this is not the first time it has been this slow, and it has been like this for a few days. -

Jason Carr said Yeah, decompressing large disc-based ROMs isn't recommended for performance reasons. It takes a pretty killer CPU to be able to do that quickly. We're relying on 7-zip to do the decompression of course, so there's nothing we can do to improve the performance (I'm sure 7-zip already does a pretty killer job doing things as quick as possible). In the future it makes sense to add in a caching system so that frequently or last-played games aren't decompressed every time, but that's a ways down the road. @CADScott, I'm wondering if maybe your email provider (noticed you have a fairly unique sent.com email address) might have all the sudden just decided emails from us are spam. Actually, ha, I just checked my email logs: So apparently somehow one of our messages got reported as spam from your email, and our email system says "okay, no more email for you!" when that happens. Lololol. Not sure how to reset that. I'll look into it. @Jason, weird, I certainly don't remember marking anything from LaunchBox as spam! Though my email client is quite weird sometimes with keyword filtering and marking some normal emails as spam. If you can reset this that would be great, if not, I will have to change my email address for the forum. Also Jason, could you please edit your above post to remove my email address from the text, really want to try to reduce it from being easily known to reduce spam.

I have tried that, no effect, and it is not just a single topic, I am subscribed to at least 4 active topics and all notification emails have ceased.
-
On a separate note, I am no longer getting email notifications for forum posts on my subscribed topics. I haven't changed any settings and they are not going through to spam, is anyone else getting this issue? I have had it for about 3-4 days I think.
