  1. The Xbox version of Halo is still the best version of the game, with graphical tricks that none of the other versions duplicate. And of most of the multiplatform games of that generation, the best version was almost always the Xbox version. All told, I actually got a lot more enjoyment out of my Xbox than I did the 360. More exclusives: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Breakdown Metal Wolf Chaos Blinx Deathrow Kingdom Under Fire Brute Force Gunvalkyrie MechAssault NBA Inside Drive Toe Jame and Earl 3
  2. I saw a post from the developer saying that you could make it portable by changing the name of the .exe to Mesen_p.exe.
  3. https://www.mesen.ca/ Just tried out this new NES emulator the other day and I'm really impressed with it. I'd been using Nestopia the last couple of years but figured I'd give this new one a shot. To my surprise, it's the first NES emulator I've used in which the turbo in Super Mario Bros. works as I remember it. Every other emulator I'd used (like, all the way back to Nesticle), the turbo button didn't seem to work fast enough and it meant I couldn't pull off moves I used to do on the real hardware. I thought maybe it was just my skills that had deteriorated but I tried it out on Mesen and I was doing all the stuff I used to do on the game without any problems. Only problem with it is that it seems twitchy about remapping the controller, at least with an Xbox360 pad, but that's not a huge headache for a controller that mostly just uses two buttons.
  4. Sorry, that's totally new to me. Not sure why it's giving you so many problems. I think Lordmonkus's suggestions are good - when one emulator fails you, try the other ones and see what works best (I do use Retroarch for most of my Genesis emulation, but I keep Fusion around because I've had the most success with Sega CD with that one).
  5. I can't say I had your specific problems, but I did end up downloading the next-to-last build of Kega Fusion and it works better for me than the newest version (and I do use Windows 10 and haven't had any trouble with Kega so far). In my case I just wanted more video options and for some reason the programmer stripped them out of the "current" version.
  6. I believe the Mednafen cores in Retroarch have been renamed Beetle, so maybe it's under there?
  7. The only thing I'm aware of is the warp feature (alt-w), which I usually switch on after loading and then switch off after I hit the title screen. Not instantaneous but it certainly cuts down on the load times quite a bit.
  8. I've recently been playing The Terminator for Sega CD. It's got to be one of, if not the best game ever based on the original Terminator movie. Made by Virgin Games right in that era when they were doing Aladdin, The Lion King, and Cool Spot and it's right in line with those in terms of being a side-scrolling action game with really smooth animation. The game basically starts as a prequel to the movie, with Reese trying to break into Skynet to go back in time, and then picks up with levels based on parts of the movie (sort of like The Warriors game years later). Between levels you're "treated" to full motion video clips from the film that are so grainy some of them are nearly unintelligible. Behold the power of CD-ROM!!! Actually where the CD comes in handy is that the game has an outstanding soundtrack by Tommy Tallarico. The graphics are very good. Generally not very flashy, but just very clear and pleasantly rendered. The levels are fairly big and there's an incentive to explore and get more power ups, grenades, and extra lives.
  9. I dearly hope so. Such an underrated console. It had so many Sega exclusives it was basically the spiritual successor to the Dreamcast, and it had a lot of other interesting, under-appreciated games. The backwards compatibility on the 360 is really half-assed and unsatisfactory.

    Altirra help?

Huh, strange. I guess I just have a bad rom because I even google'd about the issue and found some discussion that the game was busted on both emulators. Thanks!

    Altirra help?

Thing that drives me crazy about Atari 800 emulation: As near as I can tell, no current emulator is capable of playing Beamrider properly as the game freezes in both Altirra and Atari 800 whenever you shoot the mother ship.
  12. Late response but I would absolutely recommend getting into MSX emulation, if for no other reason than because of Konami's games. If you like their NES output, you kind of owe it to yourself to look at what they did on the MSX, especially games like the Knightmare trilogy, Vampire Killer (very early Castlevania game that initiated a lot of ideas that popped up in later games), the Metal Gear games, and Space Manbow. There are other very interesting games on the system as well. Major downfall is that it doesn't do side-scrolling very well. I've actually tried to get into Spectrum emulation a couple of times and bounced off badly each time. It's not getting games to run that's the problem, it's what the heck to do afterward that stumps me. I can't make heads or tails of the keyboard it used.
  13. Merry Christmas! I'll throw my hat in.
