  1. Rather than using precompiled BIOS packs, better search for the bios you want yourself. Just keep in mind you should be looking for the console name and not the company name, so it is not Nintendo Game Boy, but just Game Boy, on the list. I am not sure about a correct way, but I use " -cart" So for example the GBA will be "gba -cart" It is really weird to me to see GBA emulated on MAME... but it works. For CD-ROM games I use "-cdrm" instead of "-cart". I have started messing around with MAME like this week, mostly because of some consoles that do not have another way to emulate things, so I am still not sure if the way I do it is the best or correct. For me it works, especially because I do not want to be renaming my files according to MAME standards and of course when I used that, it worked with LaunchBox.

nathanddrews said Some very interesting posts over there. I'll have to see if my display allows 3840x480, like this: http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Display_FAQ#240p.2F480i @.@ What a resolution, although as I am reading it, it seems more like that this will be the internal resolution, not your monitors. Might be wrong though. Talk about magic!
  3. I am sorry but I do not really have much knowledge of how MAME works, since I first started using and getting involved with it.. well.. before a handful of weeks and that is because of finding out LaunchBox. I am not sure if you are striving to add the games as CHDs but I just wanted to share my way of adding them. All I do is use this command line "cdimono1 -cdrm" and just add the games in launchbox normally, like I do with the rest of the games. cdimono1 is the console's file MAME uses and cdrm is .. well cdrom, which I am sure you know, but I am just saying. You can either add the cue files or you can add 7z, since LaunchBox has the awesome choice to open the file before running them. The only problem I get is that when I try to add the cue files or 7z files, MAME I am guessing does not recognize them and when the last page of the import function comes, it has nothing listed. So I just import them with the Sega CD Emulator and then select them all and change the Emulator to MAME. PS: If this is not what you were trying to do, I am sorry. I just thought I would share what I did to add CD-i XD
  4. I never thought of using Savestates for that... *facepalms* darn it! Thanks a lot for mentioning it Brad. I will be using that since it works. :)
  5. Actually I did see I could edit the entries, but amusingly enough. the Platform edit is the only unavailable one.
  6. Considering how I see you keep marking so many duplicate reports, I am not going to post something like this there XD
  7. I was looking for a place to report something and since it seems it is not around, I thought of using this post. Hope it is ok. http://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/17818 Akumajou Dracula X is for TurboGrafx-CD (well PCEngine), but it is listed under Sega CD. PS: Kind of amusing my post is about a Castlevania too XD
  8. Ahh I see, so this is the name used for the technical part. It is not so much a request, as me wondering if it was possible. Although obviously it is not needed, not at least for what I want it, since what I want is what you mentioned, that indeed NES and SNES already have. Thanks again :)
  9. I am sorry to say but honestly I do not know what scrapping is. I am guessing though it has to do with taking games from their original platform and putting them in another platform whole, along with metadata and pictures? I understand about such systems. Obviously Famicom Disk System or the Nintendo Satellaview or whatnot, are like what Sega CD is to Mega Drive. Something separate for sure. Although if anything, I was more like asking if there is a way and I could not find it, as if to view for example two platforms in one. If it is in the TBD list, then that's awesome :D The alternative naming was started by Alakazander?
  10. The best would be if possible, for them to be separate, but there being an option to combine them under one name, like a filtered "all". That would probably satisfy both sides. Or maybe when adding roms, to choose a Name for the Platform and also choose one of the Databases. That means people could name their Platforms as they wish and also use the database of the correct platform. Like for example one wanting to call Nintendo Entertainment system just NES or Maybe Nintendo NES. >.> Obviously I am saying this without knowing how the code behind the whole thing works. But still, to not keep them together because of the Boxart would be kind of pointless. Not because of course I do not understand what you mean, but there are consoles that have the same name Worldwide. Like Nintendo 64, Japanese boxes are again different than the rest of the world, so it looks weird. If some consoles are separate for the boxart and some others merged, it will actually feel kind of weird. Being able though to split a platform to different named platforms, would probably fix that.
  11. Hello everyone :) Even if it is not many, some of the consoles, like Super Famicom, Sega Genesis and Nec TurboGrafx, are also called Super Nintendo, Mega Drive and PCEngine. It is good that the list gives the ability to choose whichever name you want, but when it comes down to it, depending which one it is chosen, some of the games will not be recognized. For now, when there is such an occasion, I just chose the roms that have No Launchbox ID and mass edited the Platform to the corresponding name. Is there for now a way to combine the two different names of the console to one?
  12. I would say I have a decent one, but I am not sure. I own a 280x. I would definitely call it decent, since it can run some of my fav games in really good graphics. But >.> *copies the configuration and saves it in a txt* I will definitely give it a try. My monitor goes between a 42 inch tv, which I rarely to never play full screen and it has really high contrast, bleedingly strong colors (well not all, just some of them) and a lot of backlight and a 24 inch TFT LED , that is very good when it comes to colors and good contrast, but the backlight is not that strong. I will be trying it though and if I cant do it, I will try to look up if I can manage to adjust it. This is why I like RetroArch. Even if things like this can take a lot of effort to adjust, it will apply to any consoles you use RetroArch with :3 One of the best pies ever! Thanks for all the effort you put to write this up lordmonkus!
  13. Thanks for sharing that. I will be trying it for sure!
  14. I have watched them already and I do not mind XD Even if I adore it, xBR and filtering in general, alters the original "nostalgic" feeling of games. Plus I love rounded stuff in general, which I know it is a persona opinion. I do not mind when people express their own opinion and it conflicts over mine, but I can only like what my eyes look at and find enjoyable XD Still though many times I have caught myself finding oversmoothed pictures of older games being bad. For example, I love Kega's 25% scanlines, combined at timewith either RF or CVBS filters, which slightly blur out the picture. PS: Indeed they are the best at least I have seen >.> shows that guy (lol XD) that loves helping people and loves what he is doing~
  15. Just the fact RetroArch has xBR is enough for me to throw eventually away everything else and stick to it, at least for 2D games. Although I can understand why people avoid RA. It feels user unfriendly and it is full of menus and configurations, enough to make people run away from it. Of course if people would get it preconfigured, they would end up loving it and what it offers. If only they knew the configuration part can take only a short time..
  16. I am not sure if I did something wrong, if their site is just having some downtime or I have to do something to fix this. What I did was to delete every picture I had from the folders and then selected all the files I have in my library and download any picture I could from all the sources, except the front cover/boxart. I also added priority to EmuMovies, by ticking the box. Now all my games have everything but boxart, but when I try to download the boxart only from Emumovies, the process finishes in seconds and it gives me this error, without of course downloading anything. I am wondering if I actually am at fault this happened. -Edit- Welp, it seems it was EmuMovies' fault. Tried it now and it works normally. I am glad I did not open a ticket for this.
  17. <.< ... I have been calling them filters, have I not? I meant shaders, which is indeed the reason in the past I forced myself to learn RetroArch's UI. Sorry I always call them filters.
  18. FistyDollars Like I mentined for TurboGrafx-16 I use Ootake. I like it that it is updated a lot and it works in conjunction with LaunchBox. I use Mednafen for the TurboGrafx-CD, but not yet with RA. I will check it out though for sure, since I always like testing new things. I never heard of BizHawk before. I am also not sure what TAS are. Does BizHawk support applying filters on all the consoles it uses? This was the reason I loved RetroArch, since sadly on TFT monitors/tvs filters are needed for older games. If BizHawk can apply xBR filter on it's emulators, I will definitely like it. @DOS76 Yeah I have seen tutorials for it, but it was before even getting here. It was after I found about LauncBox and I was looking for tutorials that I have seen a handful of them on Youtube :) There is a possibility to use MAME as a core with RetroArch, although to be honest I would prefer to use HqMAME that uses again xBRZ.
  19. I have used RA in the past, before I learned about LaunchBox. I did it back then because RetroArch actually had the ability to use filters along with Emulators that natively did not have that. I am not mentioning RA, because it can be quite intimidating for people (to me it always felt like I am on a console, when using that). I am eventually going to switch to RA for most of the older consoles, since I definitely prefer 1 Emulator with many cores, opposed to many emulators. Not only that, but it is more reassuring to use RA, since you don't have to worry if every single sollitary emulator you have for any system got updated, since RetroArch is spoiling you by taking care of these things. But Emulators like the xBRZ variants, are sadly not part of it (yet >.>). But if anything, there are some emulators, usually for the more known system, that deserve to be stand alone, outside of RA, or just are not included in it yet. One thing I would love to find is a guide on adding cores to RA, if it is not included it it's list. I think last time I looked at it, which was before finding out Launchbox (around January) it lacked the Atari 5200 Emulator in it's list (kat5200) even if it had it listed in the site. Sadly I did not know how to add it manually. Whilst, I am trying to find out which console works with which Emulator, and whichever does not have one, I will move it to MAME and hopefully manage to make RA work with MAME.
  20. Hello there everyone. I love this list and love even more how LaunchBox suggests to the user a good Emulator choice, trying to help them with setting up the frontend even more. I do not know if this is still updated (I am guessing not), since last post on here seem to be 3 months ago, but if people use these as reference, I thought I would post some things here. Before though suggesting stuff, I want to ask about MESS. Is it suggested because it is better than MAME? With Launchbox's suggestion I am using MAME, getting myself ready to eventually use RetroArch for obscure or older consoles. Anyway, I want to share some personal choices, even though I am not really knowledgeable if there is a need to use a command line. I play everything windowed and only if I want at the moment to play fullscreen, I switch it. LaunchBox just seems to work out of the box with most emulators.. so awesome. Anyway first I want to suggest BGB (http://bgb.bircd.org/) for Gameboy Monochrome and Color. It might not have the greatness of VBA, but after a lot of testing, it seems that VBA (At least the latest M edition) ends up being glitchy and non working with some older game boy monochrome and color games. It might have been like me finding an exception, but the sure is that the games that were kind of glitchy with VBA, worked fine on BGB. Although, even if you do not count that, BGB has something even more awesome for me. For monochrome games, it lets you choose different color schemes. It has a green/black like the original old fat game boy, a couple of different black/white ones, the awesome warmed Super Gameboy color scheme and a couple of other ones, giving the option to the user to use what colors make his eyes feel more happy. On top of that, it has the ability to use the Super Game Boy borders, which at least to me have a high nostalgia factor. Finally it let's the user choose a combination of Super Game Boy border, but with Game Boy Color ... well colors XD. In the past when you chose borders, you would be forced to use the SGB color scheme, but with that option you use the best of both worlds. Another one I was to suggest is xBRZ (https://sourceforge.net/projects/xbrz/files/?source=navbar) . Well, this is not so much an emulator, as much a video filter for emulators. xBRZ is one of the best filters I have ever seen and I found it out while looking for custom filters for Snes9x. Like it advertises, it is the High Quality filter offered by emulators, but it actually makes the picture looks better and it seems to be more easy on resources. I use their version of the emulators they offer and I just love how everything looks so much better and if anything, especially on older games, they look as if they were drawn to look smooth and not just filtered from pixels to a smoother state. In their maine page they offer some picture comparisons, which after playing a handful of hours, I can tell that they are not lying about. If anything, on Snes9x after using the xBRZ, I even turned off the bilinear extra filtering, since it did not feel needed. That boosted the game FPS even more. For the NEC consoles, I see Magic Engine suggested, which for the CD is the only choice. I never used myself Magic Engine, since is offered as a demo version, but what I use is Mednafen (http://mednafen.fobby.net/). I always avoid Mednafen, because it does not have a UI and I have never really had the need to go for it, since for the consoles I would emulate, there were other choices. For NEC TurboGrafx-CD though, that was the only option I found that worked out of the box. Without LaunchBox, all the user needs to do is to drag the cue/bin/iso file on Mednafen and the game starts. If you hit F1, it brings up all the choices the user has to customize Mednafen and if anything all I used was Alt+Shift+1, which lets your customize the Player 1 controller. It was a bit weird it would ask me to push the button twice, to confirm I pressed it right, but it was really easy. For TurboGrafx-16 if I want a UI I use Ootake(http://www.ouma.jp/ootake/). I have to admit though, a normal user would be baffled with it. The main site is in Japanese, so it might be a bit hard to find the Emulator. What is more, in order to use zipped files with it, it requires the user to separately download an installer file, that includes an unzip32.dll(http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=06137316739152033050) that works with Ootake and then place the dll in the emulator directory. The reason I spent though time trying to find it, is because the development is active and by active I mean their last update right now is from 29/4 of this year. Definitelly fresh >.> The UI itself is not very good looking, but at least the emulation looks great with it. The UI has English, along with.. well whatever the other language is. For GBA you mention VBA, but not VBA-M. Is there a reason for that? Although I might be asking a bit too late, I still do wonder XD Now to time talk agaisnt Mednafen , lol. For Virtual Boy I use VBjin (https://code.google.com/archive/p/vbjin/). It combines the PCEjin emulator with the mednafen.9, giving a really awesome and great emulator. One thing I love from this Emulator, is the ability to use anaglyph glasses. Because the games are monochrome, awesomely enough anaglyph glasses actually work really well with it. There are no color for the glasses to mess up and it anything it gave me a nice 3D (lol well kinda) experience, enough to make me smile while I was playing. There is even an Oculus Rift version, where you can use it with these new VR glasses that are around. Personally I do not have these, so I can't say how well it works. Of course it does have the option to either play the left or right screen or use a combination of them, since I am guessing most people will not use anaglyph glasses like me. There is one thing I want to say for Kega Fusion. At least here as a suggestion, it would be nice for the Sega CD to suggest the older 3.63 version. 3.64 seems to have problems and glitches with Sega CD emulation and at times it can be sever. One example I can think is "Rise of the Dragon". If anything, on 3.64 it just would not start, which is why I looked around and found people mentioning that 3.64 introduced some glitches to the Sega CD emulation.
  21. I have used these in the past and I just have to suggest to avoid Final Fantasy 8 and 9. The image ends up being a DVD5 image, which ePSXe can't read at least and either the user will have to use an old 1.70 version of the emulator or not be able to play it. I am not sure if these are more then these two, but with these two I ended having problems, which made me stop using these kits. But they are quite useful if the game you are playing does not have a save during the swap disk phase. If it does, I honestly prefer to save there, close the game and start the next disk.
  22. Thank you very much for the help SentaiBrad :) I hope the feature will appear eventually in LaunchBox, even if it will take a while to. I made an account so if I find something I will try to report it there. I have never really used bitbucket, but if I will be unable to, I will be asking help for that XD I hope you are having a good week!
  23. First of all, hello and I hope everyone is having a nice day :) I am having a little trouble with the sound. in the frontend. Most of the games that have sound files work just fine, but some of them sound really bad, giving an earpiercing sound. This one for example when Launchbox plays it, it makes a horrible sound; But this one just sounds normal; I have found a handful of them and at first I was thinking it was just a bad mp3, but when I tried to play the file out of the frontend, it played normally. Afar from the sound problem, I am wondering if there is a automatic way for Launchbox to set in the UI the first picture available. As in, if there is no cover, to just add a screenshot. I know it is supposed to be a boxart view, but when when a lot of games lack cover, the whole interface feels a lot less attractive. I am currently split between either copying screenshots to cover folder or manually going over every game and changing screenshots to covers.
  24. I really wanted to thank CADScott for pointing out that. I remember I used that years ago, but I did not remember about it. Actually even if I did, I would not think this is possible. Thanks a lot for pointing that out :)
