I currently have been using Demul, haven't had much luck with the Retroarch Dreamcast cores.

Thank you CPUjunkie, I will get that a try as well. Is there any downfalls to the NTFS disk compression that you have encountered?

The stand alone Demul should support CHD files as well.

  2. What Suhrvivor said. I meant to expound a little more, but failed miserably.

I have kept an old copy of chdman from an older MAME build which outputs V4 CHD conversions. That gets me around the CHD incompatibility that can show up.

  3. One thing to consider is IF you are using Retroarch, or are willing to switch to it, many of the cores support CHD files now. CHD is a good compression option for those cores that support it, plus there is no uncompressing the game files as the core runs the game directly. You can save a ton of space using CHD, or at least I know I did.

Here is a current list of cores that support CHD (as of this initial post).

  4. You could use Notepad++ to mass edit the xml file for that platform. I just testing this here and I wiped out all the info in the <version> field in about 5 seconds. Here is my replace criteria.

  5. I wondered if anyone here had any experience with some of the replacement arcade joysticks with auto-switching 4 & 8 way gate plates? I have been thinking of swapping my existing sticks out for some, but wondered how well they work. I know I can buy sticks where you manually change the gate plate, but am lazy these days. :)

I'm going to go with a GT 1030 if i can find one for cheap.

Make sure you get a 1030 w/DDR5 ram, not the new ones with DDR4. The performance between the two is quite dramatic and the price between them should be very small.
