Importing ScummVM for use in Launchbox via Rocketlauncher - A Tutorial
JaysArcade replied to JaysArcade's topic in Videos
OK, not really understanding what all the fuss is about, I looked into trying to find how exactly my setup works and I found a huge mistake I made in my tutorial. It's kinda complicated but I'll try to explain. I guess at some point originally, I set up ScummVM similar to how Retrohumanoid is describing, but later when I created my tutorial - not realizing exactly what was going on, I incorrectly assumed that Rockelauncher was opening my roms from 7zs. In reality, ScummVM's roms path is defined in ScummVM.ini. I had to run the troubleshooting log of Rocketlauncher in order to trace what was going on. The ScummVM.ini I thought ScummVM was using didn't really have anything in it. When I ran the troubleshooting log, I discovered that Rocketlauncher was pulling an old ScummVM.ini from my ..users\jay\appdata\roaming\ScummVM folder. In that ini file, there were entries pointed to another folder full of the same roms only unzipped and in their own folders. I didn't even remember I had this folder set up this way. So even though when I created my tutorial, I started from complete scratch, Rocketlauncher fouled me up by looking for an instance of the ini in my appdata/roaming folder, and found one! OOPS. I guess I need to re-do my tutorial. I'll include my ScummVM.ini here for you to look at. You could probably use it if the paths are the same or you could do a mass find and replace of the locations and change them to your roms location. Man, sorry to everyone for the confusion. @angelobodetti, thanks for pointing this out and making me look into this more deeply to understand it better. I might try to re-do my tutorial soon to show the correct way to set it up. TL:DR: I messed up the tutorial. You can still point your Launchbox to the 7s to import the roms, but the Roms themselves need to each be extracted to their own respective folders and be pointed to from ScummVM and you'll need a working ScummVM.ini for it to work. Sorry for the hassle. scummvm.zip -
Importing ScummVM for use in Launchbox via Rocketlauncher - A Tutorial
JaysArcade replied to JaysArcade's topic in Videos
You shouldn't need to load the games in ScummVM first. Did you by any chance ever try to set up ScummVM in Rocketlauncher in the past? It almost feels to me like Rocketlauncher is looking at a different ScummVM exe or maybe the romset you are using is not fully compatible with the Launchbox included ScummVM executable. Are you using the Hyperspin set found on PD from 2013? I believe that is the set I'm using. If you previously tried and failed to get ScummVM running in your setup, maybe Rocketlauncher is still hanging on to the old unsuccessful settings you tried. You say you are having RocketLauncher AND Launchbox unzip the files? You should only have Rocketlauncher unzip the 7z's. Open your Rocketlauncher settings in Launchbox and make sure the "Extract Rom archives before running" checkbox is unchecked. If none of this helps, you may need to run troubleshooting logs and post them over on the RL Forums. Hope you can get it working and get that new @RetroHumanoid ScummVM pause media installed. -

Two files included. One with sound and one without. Copy the one you want to the Launchbox videos folder and rename it to startup.mp4. Of course, you'll want to backup any existing startup videos first. Enjoy. Let me know if you find it useful. I also have a vid that says Arcade instead of BigBox if anyone is interested. Here is a demo. -

Wow. Latest beta, everything feels so snappy. Switching between games in BB - transitioning between videos seem to be much faster than before. You're doing something right @Jason Carr! Keep up the good work!

Plugin Requests
JaysArcade replied to superfurry's topic in Third-Party Applications and Plugins (Released)
I love the idea for more comics support. Either officially (not likely) or via a plugin. +1 for the first archive image as thumbnail idea. @DOS76, there is a way to extract the first image of archives as a batch via ComicRack and a user made plugin. Kind of a pain but a lot easier than manually extracting them when you have a large library. You can use these for the image displayed in Launchbox. I'll put a link to the forum page with the plugin below for anyone that wants to try it. From the download you have to edit a file called ExtractFirstPage.py to ensure the files get named properly. As is, the script names the images something other than the name of the archive itself which makes more work for us when trying to use them in Launchbox. See the forum page to see what line of the file that needs to be edited. Once that is done, open Comic Rack and add the plugin. Select the folder of comics and run the script. Works really good. Then use CDisplayEX as a comic reader/magazine reader in Launchbox as ComicRack sucks for actually reading comics on a cabinet. Link for the ExtractFirstPage_1_1.zip download. You'll also need the ComicRack software. http://comicrack.cyolito.com/forum/13-scripts/3052-extract-only-1st-page-in-archive-cover-page -
Hey guys, I'm not sure what the Windows 10 issue is you are talking about. I created this plugin on a Windows 10 machine and its working here so it must be something in your setup. Unless it has something to do with the Windows 10 Creators update. Not sure about that one but I'm doubtful that is an issue either. It is a very simple script so I'm not sure how it could be broken from much of anything really. Can anyone else confirm if this is still working for them in Windows 10?

Me too, about 11 gigs for me. Taking a quick peek, I still see a few duplicate images in my arcade clear logos folder, but obviously something was cleaned out. Great work Jason! Below, are the before and after sizes of my images folder.

Wow, sweet. Can't wait to grab these!
-
Yeah it look s like attract is currently only programmed for two levels. Thanks for the sanity check you guys!
-
Correct. Or maybe I'm just wrongly assuming it should behave differently.
-
Thanks. Make sure you have platform categories enabled at start and see if it stays on one category or if it switches between them. Maybe its just my setup but I'd like to be sure.
-
And mine does switch between platforms, just not between platform categories.
-
Yeah I do. I also tried with it unchecked just to be sure.
-
I would think normal would be to flip through everything regardless of platform - but having a choice might be nice too.
-
Mine has gotten better with the crashing. At least it seems to run longer now before crashing. I can almost count on it crashing, just a matter of how long before it happens. No error other than Bigbox has stopped working message with Bigbox frozen behind the error message. For what it's worth, it would crash after running for only a couple hours before the latest release came out. Since the 7.9 release, I have let it run for almost 24 hours twice before it has crashed.

I posted this in troubleshooting but it has only gotten 10 views in the last 24 hours with no replies. I figure this thread gets more attention and maybe @Jason Carr will see this one. Has anyone noticed when leaving your system to run in attract mode for extended periods, that the randomization never leaves whatever platform category it's in? For example, if I am in the consoles category, walk away and come back in 3 hours, attract is running but it is still displaying games and platforms from consoles. Walk away again, go to bed, come back the next morning, attract is still running and everything looks normal, however it is still only displaying games and platforms from consoles. Its like it never leaves the category unless you manually enter into a different category at which point randomization begins again but only for the category you leave it in. Maybe I'm missing something or maybe no-one else has noticed this yet. Just thought I would throw it out there.
-
This just started with the 7.9 release, since we didn't have the platform categories before. I can go into a platform category, say handhelds, go to bed and attract is running in the morning but it is still in the handhelds platform category. At first I just thought it was a coincidence but it has happened too many times now to be that. It does bounce around in handhelds between platforms and games but it never seems to leave the platform category handhelds until I do it manually. I do have a custom category platform called media so not sure if that could be somehow causing it. I've noticed this happening now in the Pinball platform category, handhelds, consoles, and my custom category media. On the plus side, the random crashes that were happening when I left my system in attract mode for extended periods seems to be fixed, or at least a lot less frequent.

Got it thanks. I was looking at profile instead of acct settings.

I want launching an app like KODI or Jukebox from top level menu more than anything else. Hey, you're a mod, do you know if my username can be changed or am I locked in? I'd like to change to JaysArcade if possible. If not, no big deal. I just don't see a way to do it myself.
-
He just said it is already on the list so we'll see if it makes the official poll. He has a lot of ideas to go through.
-
I just mentioned it on the stream. We'll see if he adds it to his list.
