Wow, im super excited now!! Cant wait to get home to try it! I guess i just need to check that beta box in the settings to get offered this build?
-
really? i wonder what area was touched for the improvement? still using xml file in that beta? is the beta safe to upgrade to?
-
it's still slow in list view?? i was thinking that would chop of the time to switch platforms significantly (i was gonna try that but haven't yet). hmm, so that kind of makes me think the performance is mostly because of the xml file, which seems like a much easier fix! hmm.

Same issue for me @Imgema. I know they will squash this problem! I think its a tough one to make fast and still look awesome, since there can be so many games in one platform with art/video/metadata. I still have some experimenting that I want to do to improve performance on my system.

Since you said you never used Rocketlauncher before, you might just want to try using Launchbox as the front end AND launcher and leave RL out of it. This might be easier for you. There are videos on how to add just about any platform and emulator to Launchbox. You might not have any need to use Rocketlauncher. I used to use Hyperspin and Rocketlauncher, but I'm in the process of moving everything to Launchbox alone (ok, some people on this forum talked me into using Retroarch also for some platforms, haha). So far I have not encountered any huge issues and like it much more.

is this issue that you really have to press escape many time, or you just have to wait for it to switch after the first press? because it's always forced me to wait for a long time going from options back to platforms. so, i'm hoping the fix that is coming will fix me too! =D

Launchbox slowed down too much when I got over ~12,000 games in the menu
ckp replied to Evil_Orko's topic in Troubleshooting
I have 14k games not hidden. I have 4 game tiles wide showing. I have the default 512MB RAM set. I'm very hesitant to give it any more, although things might go a little faster for me. When I click on a game, the details and video comes up pretty quickly (a second or two). When I switch platforms, it takes a fairly long time (longer since upgrading from 6.8 to 6.9). I doubt that I would use any application that required 2GB of RAM to work well. I'm hopeful and confident that the LB devs will improve performance as time goes on. I would hope this issue is caused by something else. 2GB of RAM is a very large amount of your system memory to reserve for a single application. Disk throughput can be a big factor here. What type of disk drive do you have these components on: Launchbox install, LB image cache, game media? Since you are running Windows 10, it "should" mean your disk drives are not too fragmented because Win 10 automatically defragments, but you might want to try closing down everything and running a defrag on your drives. When Windows and apps move unusually slow, a lot of times I've seen that caused by bad data on the disk. Running 'chkdsk /F c:' (replace c for each drive letter you have, one at a time) will correct disk issues and your system may hugely benefit. I would try that. See if there are any .NET Framework updates and/or patches not yet installed (although i doubt it with Win10 since it comes automatically). Exclude any LB related folders from anti virus scanners. Running LB, image cache, and media from a faster drive, like SSD, may help too. Lastly, running in BigBox mode will probably alleviate this issue for you, but I'm guessing you like to use the non Bigbox mode. -

I think you are correct. lunchbox.xml has everything. What exactly is moving slowly for you? Is it just when you startup Launchbox, or changing Platforms, or other? There may be some things you can do to help, but first it might be helpful to know just which things are slow. -
Hi. I use a button on the side as the Escape key.

I don't know what you mean? i am rezipping my 7z files (that were not zipped with rar format) using the rar format. that's the only way i know of to get a fast unzip.
-
I believe you, but I tried zipping with rar5 using the very latest Winrar program and then unzipping it with 7zip and 7zip told me it could not. But it could deal with the regular rar compression.
-
no worries! the good news is a WAY faster unzipping time!! woohoo!
-
guys, i wasn't suggesting LB to use, include, or set rar or any other program. i was just asking for LB to have an OPTIONAL setting to allow us, the users, to specific any unzipping program and parameters we want, so that if someone owns Winrar they would have the option to tell LB to use their rar program in their program directory with their command line unzip parameters. it would only be an option and 7zip would still be the default with LB. anyway, from my experiment i found it is OK to just keep using 7zip only for unzipping. the super fast performance improvement is to rar all your game images using rar and .rar extension and compression. 7zip can extract a rar (not rar5) format OK. the difference in unzipping speed is phenomenal. i got a batch file script from the Rocketlauncher forum to automatically unzip and rezip all my .7z gamecube files, using rar.exe program and rar format. i own Winrar, but you could also just use the trial of it for this purpose. again, the speedup is amazing. wish i found out about it before.

Let me give an example. On my usb 3 drive, if i unzip a .7z game that is a little over 1Gb, it takes over 1 minute to unzip with 7zip. If I zip the same game with winter using rar5 format, it take winter only 14 seconds to unzip it! 7zip can't even extract a rar5 format, so i can't use 7zip for that. this is a HUGE time savings un the decompression wait. however, i just tested and found that if i zip all the iso files using the "rar" (not rar5) format, 7zip can unzip them and it only takes 16 seconds! so, the end result is that 7zip is fine. the HUGE savings here is just zipping up everything with winrar using rar format. win !!

Hi guys, i'm not talking about hard coding it. I would just like the option as a user to have a setting to use whatever i want
-
It doesn't matter about the compression type and extension. Launchbox uses 7z to extract compressed game files. I'm wondering if there is any way to have LB use rar.exe instead. I'm thinking there is not.
-
LB uses 7z. So is there a setting for this?
-
it works now. not sure what the deal was before
-
is it possible to have LB decompress with rar.exe instead of 7z.exe ? rar is faster
-
it's there. not sure why it can't find anything.

Unfortunately, going from Options back to the platform list still takes a long time for me in BB, even if I don't make a single change.
-
I tried adding one of my Wii U games, but LB isn't able to find anything. Do I need a certain naming or something else to get art?

I would like to also exclude some platforms from Attract Mode such as my Tools platform where I keep pc tools i may need to launch. Currently I have only two tools in that platform but it auto scrolls those two tool items (with no image or video) in the list like crazy over and over until its time is up. I also have a couple game platforms that only have two games in them, so I'd rather it not stay inside a platform if it has already landed on everything in there. I suppose I could tell it not to change platform at all but I like it changing platforms
