FmTowns works in mess/mame just make sure you have the matching bios files for your version of mame. i was using old bios files from .151 but had MAME.193 installed and they are not compatible, they change the files. These are the files that should be inside your fmtowns.zip For mame .193/194

IMO it is due to the success of the community and more users submitting items. Being so awesome does have its downsides.

I use Spectaculator emulator , but that's just my preference. Its not free tho , but is the best speccy emu imho. of course there are ways to get it for free if you know where to look ?. Google is your friend ? It supports all major zx formats , .tap .tzx .sna .z80 etc.... Has a really great GUI is easy to use.
