That’s a bartop on ‘roids. I like it, the screen looks so crisp and clean.

I prefer the standard 3D, followed by the ol’ box-front. I’m not a fan of the HD 3D ones myself but it’s good they’re there for others. Variety is the spice of life, so they say. & by “they”, I mean the teenage crab monsters from Vector-7!

I’m a bit of a digital hoarder myself so can understand your endeavour(s). I’m at about 55k games but only taking up about 2.8TB. You must have some large libraries of the more semi-modern consoles as opposed to old computers etc?

I really don't recommend using TOSEC for C64 as there is a metric boatload of bad dumps in there. A lot of games will have like 6 or 7 dumps available and there might be one or two good ones among them.
Gamebase64 is normally a safe bet, with one version each, with the best or at the very least a working version of them.
Yeah I knew TOSEC are more in the spirit of preservation than quality per say. I had never heard of Gamebase64, their v15 collection is monolithic in size. Just found it, I'm in!

Just wanted to make a suggestion regarding the forums/website here if I may be so bold: DO NOT FREAKIN' CHANGE!
I collected physical vintage/retro video games for many years. After given it up (without going into the details) I tried my hand at Hyperspin. I enjoyed it very much though I only did the arcade games side of things. It was a bit to get my head around at first but I got there in the end. Without bashing the Hyperspin community here ('cause that wouldn't be cool), they were not bad people but not overly helpful/friendly.
Years later, fast forward to two and a half months ago and I signed up for, and paid for Launchbox premium and have never looked back. In only ten weeks I have amassed around 150 platforms totaling about 53k games. More so though the community here has been indescribably helpful (even though I just used the word 'indescribably' to describe it).
So please do not change anything here. For the people I have interacted with thus far including the plethora of already very helpful information floating within has been worth a hundred times more than the premium fee I initially paid. I am not the brightest bulb in the box regarding all this stuff but hopefully one day in the future I can give a little back regarding artwork contributions and the likes. So don't ya'll change now, ya hear?!

One other thing that's worth mentioning is that the Maximum 1541 Speed feature isn't going to do anything for you if you're using .tap files. Those are tapes, which Max 1541 Speed doesn't have any bearing on. 1541 refers to the 1541 floppy diskette drive, and only impacts disk formats. .d64 is the format I recommend.
I just spent half an hour going through my 1.6k .tap files and they are all unzipped and renamed appropriately. Though I do I have a set of TOSEC .d64 files which they are about 17k. It will take some time to sort through those to do the same thing but I think I will just bite the bullet and commit to doing so. I will report back as to my success or lack-thereof in the end.

The second point is particularly important as they won't work otherwise. They'll work if loaded within CCS itself, but not through LB. For whatever reason, special characters cause issues for CCS64 when launched through LB.
CCS64 doesn't support compressed formats like zip, it may or may not work with LB's extract function, but I don't use that personally - mine are all extracted. It's not like the files are large anyway.
I just extracted them and am going to use Bulk Rename Utility to get rid of any parenthesis. I will let you know how I go. Because Launchbox is linked to them as a .zip I will have to upload them to Launchbox again now right?

It's definitely there. You press F10 to pull up the menu, then go to "Special", and it's called Maximum 1541 Speed.
I found it thank you. I went through and entered all the settings you recommended. I still cannot get a single game to go but I will keep persevering with it.

That tutorial is pretty terrible, by the way. It has a lot of incorrect information. PP files are Preservation Project files and they (.nib files) do not work in emulators. They're designed to be used with some other tools to transfer onto real diskettes for use on actual hardware, not emulators. Do not import anything into your library that says "PP" on it.
CCS64 is still my preference as far as emulators. The usefulness of the Maximum 1541 Speed feature can't be overstated. No command line parameters are necessary, but you do need to change a few settings in the emulator.
All 1.6k of my files are zipped .tap files so that is no problem. I did download some preservation project files but deleted them when I saw that is what they were. I have heard you mention some setting in the special section but I do not appear to have that in my CCS64 emulator, or at least cannot see it. Is there someway in particular to access it or might I have a earlier or later version than you?
6 hours ago, Zombeaver said:Also, if you're a crazy person like me, you can dive down the deep dark rabbit hole of using the DOS version of CCS64. This requires a certain amount of extra work but has become my preferred method at this point as the DOS version avoids some of my personal annoyances with the Windows version.
You can look at the C64 Dreams collection I did if you want an example of this. An import-only version is available for existing Launchbox libraries - you just drop the stuff in your Launchbox folder and then boot up LB and you'll have a new platform named C64 Dreams.
I've been in the process of converting my entire C64 library over to that format, but it's fairly time-consuming.
That sounds interesting but first I would like to try and get CCS64 working before I look into something else, thank you for mentioning it as it is something I will at the very least take a look at.

How about trying another emulator? Vice is a much more 'complete' emulator and I've never had any problems loading games with it through LaunchBox
I am trying CCS64 now, I'll see how I go with that. Unfortunately my childhood system is proving to be a right proper pain in the buttocks to get up and going.

Hi all, I followed the tutorial but my games are not loading. I am using Hoxs64 with the -quickload -autoload commands. At first the emulator would just go to the purple colored system screen. Then I realized I had not ticked the box to unzip files as my ROMs are zipped .tap files. After doing that it seems to go through the quickload and autoload then asks to press play on the tape. Upon hitting the space-bar (which I am guessing is play) the game never actually loads but does something like:
...if it even progresses to that. Some of those color combinations are pretty sweet but I'd rather be playing a game. Any ideas?

Hi Dane, I just got passed 42K....omitting comics and video game magazines...are you importing only US/EURO sets or do you included japanese/latin games too?
I only include translated to english japanes games, except my NEC-PCFX and some Famicom games (translated when possible), and go through great pains to get rid of duplicate versions, demos, betas etc..Hello, out of the approximate 51k there’d be about 100 gaming magazines but all the rest are games. I have broken quite a few of my systems up into regions and only imported the Japanese exclusives. I actually have seperate categories for translations for the Game Gear, NES, SNES and Mega Drive where I’ve made my own custom main menu clear logos. I like to try and get rid of duplicates, demos and betas too. Though for various systems I have seperate categories for hacks and homebrews like the Atari 2600 for example where I’ve got over 2k games. I have a Sonic the Hedgehog hacks category for the Mega Drive with about 180 games, I find those fun. I’m starting to add all the old pain in the arse computers now which will be frustrating but fun too. Your collection sounds like it’d be very organised and tidy, which I really dig.

I’ve enjoyed reading through this thread. I do not have the biggest, but just surpassed 50k two nights ago. Creeping up to 51k and probably still rising. I’m one of these completionist types. I’m enjoying the ‘challenge’.

The name of the core in the RA menus is Beetle Cygne, however the file name for the core is mednafen_wswan_libretro.dll. So you will still want to use the command line -L "cores\mednafen_wswan_libretro"
I tried the mednafen one prior but had made a mistake with it. Thanks for your reply as it fixed it up for me.

Hey all, I watched the video tutorial on YouTube for the WonderSwan and WonderSwan Color. In the video it shows the old core: -L "cores\mednafen_swan_Libretro.dll". I see this has been updated and I have typed in: -L"cores\beetle_cygne_Libretro.dll" as the Default Command-Line Parameter but neither system works for me. I ended up using Mednafen alone to get the WonderSwan to work. Though I still am unable to get the WonderSwan Color to work on either emulator. Is my Command-Line correct? My WonderSwan Color ROMs are zipped with .wsc files within and I have "Extract ROM Archive Before Running" checked in Retroarch so that is not the problem.

Yeah controller companion is great, you just need to add a new profile and associate it with a .exe then set all the buttons you want and apply. It will then auto load that profile everytime that .exe is launched, and close that profile when the .exe exits.
Just wanted to say thank you as I figured this out tonight and it works like a charm. It has definitely made my setup that little bit more easy now.

Has anyone played with getting an AutoHotKey script to map an analog stick to the mouse for certain emulators like DeSmuME and Citra?
I just created a profile for PPSSPP with Controller Companion and without having to do anything else it automatically made the two analogue sticks on my PS4 controller operate as a mouse where before they were not. I am not the best at all this stuff, but would this be an option for you?

Hi all, just wondering if there is something I can put like -quickload and/or -autoload for the C64 via MAME to get past the home screen and into the game. I am happy to use another emulator but am trying to use either Retroarch, Mednafen or MAME for continuity.

There is something really wrong with the world when a disgusting abomination like the seventh Fast and the Furious film won the People's Choice Awards for Favorite Action Movie and something awesome like Controller Companion does not receive an equivalent accolade.

If you are using a standalone MAME, there won't be any conflict.
CC automatically detects the running process of your choosing eg. "mame.exe" "mame64.exe" and then launches your profile silently in the background (and exits it when you close the program).
Infact, you can put multiple exe's in one profile "mame64.exe" "mame.exe" "mameui.exe" "mameforjames.exe" "mameforrainysundays.exe" "dontmamemeyoubastard.exe" so you get them all covered. I have 140 MUGEN games that have different named exe's. I copied all the names of the exe's into one profile (it took a while lol) which has mapped Alt + F4 to my Guide button.
It's a good little program. Well worth the small amount of money. It is not tied to Steam either and can run independently. Their site says it is compatible with PS controllers. I don't know about PS4 though as that is too new for me lol. (I'm not affiliated with this program btw
)
I just bit the bullet and threw the whopping $3 down for it. It took me a bit to work out I had to have DS4 open for it to work but I added both DS4 and C.C. to open upon windows starting up. I have not mapped anything yet but am already very impressed with what I have seen. Thanks for the info.

My SEGA Saturn was working just dandy in Mednafen. Then all of a sudden something happened, like a gremlin crawled in there and got all up in its' shit.
When I launch a Saturn title from LaunchBox or BigBox Mednafen starts up the Saturn first showing the startup screen then goes into settings where you set the date and time. It never used to do that and although I try entering the settings it never progresses further than that into the game.
Has anyone ever encountered this before? I have tried searching for information but did not come across any.

A program called Controller Companion on Steam is able to map functions to the XBOX 360 Guide Button. I have Controller Companion and Xpadder running at the same time and I use CC to map Quit Functions to the Guide button and Xpadder for everything else (Xpadder can't map the Guide Button).
I don't know about the PS4 controller but maybe it is something you could look at it if you find no other way. http://controllercompanion.com/
Thank you, it looks really good. I do use the PS4 controller home-button for closing Retroarch so mapping it via Controller Companion might have the potential to mess with that? Although if it did I suppose I could just redo the newly mapped button in Retroarch. I will definitely give it a try, thanks again.

you would have to on a game by game basis add the command for the one you actually wanted in the games edit window.
That is a shame. In that case I might go to the 'trouble' of separating the system in LaunchBox into regions as I have done so with many other systems for different reasons. Thanks for the reply.
EDIT: I had a no-intro ROM-set with about 230 ROMs I was using in LaunchBox. However I did have a C64 ROM-set with about 6k messily named ROMs so I used Dons Hyperspin Tools as well as the XML over there to tidy up the large ROM-set and separate that into USA & Europe regions/categories in LaunchBox so all good.

I have been having a huge win tonight with setting up systems on my LaunchBox. Though I am currently stuck on the C64. I am emulating it via MESS on MAME (if that is how you would say it). My C64 ROMs are a mix of NTSC, PAL and Japan. So I am wanting to include the names: c64, c64p and c64_jp in the Default Command-Line Parameters. "c64 -cart" works for NTSC games for example, but is there a way to direct it to all three BIOS files in the MAME ROM set?

Yes I am also trying to fill gaps. It’s a painful endeavour but will be well worth the effort in the end.
