  1. Yeah, I picked it mainly for comedic purposes. I know there are a lot of good shooters on gaming consoles. But the ratio of goodness definitely favours the arcades.
  2. I use standalone Mednafen as it has always been the emulator I have personally found works best with the PS1. All of my emulator's exit just fine using the home button on my Hori FC which is mapped to 4 on the keyboard. I am using Controller Companion which has a profile for Mednafen that has the home button mapped to 4. Also, I have the following for Mednafen in LB: $4:: { Process, Close, {{{StartupEXE}}} } However, it is not exiting anymore for some reason despite the above. DOes anyone have any ideas? Can you map an exit button directly through Mednafen instead?
  3. Same, I have always unintentionally avoided shmups outside of the arcade. I know on average the arcade would definitely have the best but there would be some gems out there I am sure on home consoles and handhelds. I guess when you keep running into stuff like this though it is no wonder the arcades looked like paradise compared.
  4. Ah okay. I will just leave it then as although I am limiting myself I am trying to only really have MAME and RA emulating everything. Thank you for letting me know though. I will just wait for it to be done on MAME, even if it takes years, haha.
  5. Yes I’ll definitely do that, thank you. I just took a photo of my screen. See how the actual game area has a yellow border around the game making it so it doesn’t properly fill the Game Boy screen. Does anyone know a remedy for this? I’ve just done the Game Boy Colour and it fit perfectly first go.
  6. That great. Was there anything in particular you had to do to get it working with MAME?
  7. Okay, so, since MAME and Mednafen have nothing wrong with them it is obviously Retroarch that has an issue, not my controller. As a result, I just deleted Retroarch except for my cores and system folders because what I have in there should not alter anything and they are the largest folders. After a fresh start, it all works okay. I have set up everything for my platforms that just run off of retroarch.cfg but for platforms like the handhelds where I have borders around them of their given console I am now going through and doing all of them again. I started doing the Game Boy and ran into a problem that never happened before. I placed the border on screen in the overlay settings which worked. Though then I went to position and change the size of the game screen to fit inside the border and it is doing something that I never encountered before. In the video setting when I am changing the Custom Aspect Ratio Height when it gets to 432 it automatically gets a lot bigger as it has (3x) written next to the number 432. Is there any way to stop this stupid big jump in size? Because it is making it so I simply cannot fit the game screen area inside the border/overlay correctly. Arg! Retroarch was the biggest pain to learn, then I had everything perfect and now it is being a total jerk.
  8. Retroarch has decided to be a dick all of a sudden again. I have not unplugged my controller or made ANY changes to my setup, at all. Then Retroarch just decided it did not want to recognise controls on some systems. I deleted my retroarch.cfg file and that allowed me to navigate the menu and start from scratch though the problem is when I press a button on my controller then the Retroarch menu will not react to anything, not even my keyboard. At first, I thought it was my controller having the turbo on (I have a Hori FC) but it is not on. My controller works perfectly on MAME as nothing has changed there. It is just Retroarch. So, this is similar to my first post. This time I actually am considering deleting Retroarch completely and starting from scratch with it just in case it is some obscure little anomaly that I am missing.
  9. Psikyo really did make some gems, I think my favourite out of might be Dragon Blaze. I have Truxton II ranked at number 51 on my favourite Arcade games. I think it undeservedly gets a rating that is too low. I am hanging out to play that so much but I think it might just be a matter of it has not been emulated properly yet. I do not know exactly why I laughed at that, maybe because it is primitive compared to a lot of the other shooters being discussed. Though it is a shooter nonetheless and a good one at that. I love old school games like Gorf I guess shooters are just a genre which I am always drawn more towards the 1995+ ones. I do like Gorf however, I think it put an interesting little spin on Space Invaders. I could just do without the bright blue background stages, haha. That is because Cave is the king of shmups. Failure to recognise that fact carries a penalty of death, or so I heard. That is a ridiculously good memory off the top of your head! I completely agree, here is some of what I wrote about it on my list here: It is described as a bullet-hell shooter but its only resemblance to any kind of hell in my eyes is the difficulty in sighting enemy bullets, which is the one fatal flaw I mentioned above. I love the dark, gritty look of the game which has a lot of browns, greys and other earthly hues. Though the issue is that a lot of the enemies bullets are of a size and colour which clash with said background colours. Some of the enemy bullets are tiny in size, especially compared to the average shmup. They are also often a light brown or very dull yellow which makes them blend into their surroundings. I know one could view this as an element of challenge, but I do not consider that a good challenge. Unless it is a hidden puzzle type game you should be able to see what is happening on the screen with relative ease. You should only really die in a shmup if your skill and reaction time is not sufficient. I find even in the most chaotic of bullet-hell shooters that when I get hit I always saw it coming, it is just that I did not react in time. All they had to do to combat this was to make the enemy bullets a fluoro/neon type shade like in most shmups, just as they did in its 1999 sequel Battle Bakraid. They could have done this without increasing the bullet size too so as not to take away too much from the current look of the playfield. Battle Garegga is superior to Battle Bakraid in every way except for this one issue. No game should result in someone who has 20/20 vision wondering if they should be going to LensCrafters to have their eyes checked.
  10. If you’d wanted this around now I could’ve given you this. I still have more to add but it’s more than 50% done I’d say. I don’t know why I do all these lists, I just like making them.
  11. Hey, thank you. It took me a lot of time to put that Mario hack collection together. Though, I’m glad I did as it’s a nice feeling when it’s done. PM me when you add it for the patches etc.
  12. Yours sounds good too, thanks. It is a lot of work, but worth it if you wish to have things categorised like that. You should see my SEGA Mega Drive, haha: I have made custom clear logos and even nostalgia-themed background videos for them all. It took weeks of work, but I am happy with it all now. If you want to set up the Mario hacks here let me know and I will PM you.
  13. @Kondorito On my setup, I have separate categories for: Super Mario Bros. (NES) Super Mario World (SNES) Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA Mega Drive) Streets of Rage (SEGA Mega Drive) I only add separate categories for the ones I really like, and there are many games for. I recently also started a general NES hacks category just for the stuff I really like such as the Castlevania series and Tetris as there really are a lot of great hacks out there.

Here are 298 hacks for Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System. I love these, there are some good ones that are a lot of fun! The file Nintendo Entertainment System (Mario Hacks).7z is to be unzipped and placed in your LaunchBox\Images folder. These are all the screen-titles and screen-shots. The file Nintendo Entertainment System (Mario Hacks).png is a clear-logo I made (of course you can make your own if you wish). The file Nintendo Entertainment System (Mario Hacks).xml is to be placed in your LaunchBox\Data\Platforms folder as this has all the game notes. You will just need to use the replace function in Notepad++ to change the directories from G:\Nintendo Entertainment System (Mario Hacks) to whatever your directory will be. There are no clear logos for the games themselves. I just settle with the generic font if using BigBox. As for the games themselves, most hacks come in the form of a patch file like the .ips extension. You name your .nes file and .ips file the same name for each game. Some patches need a specific ROM like (JE) or (World) etc. Once named correctly, place them all in the same folder, then import the .nes file to LB and upon launching, it patches automatically as long as the files are named the same as stated above. If you need some ‘help’ with the actual games (.nes and .ips files) themselves, send me a PM. Also, I’ll always be adding more to this as I obtain more.

  16. I think for the good of my setup, and stress-levels, I would selfishly sacrifice Mogwai.
  17. I have thought of that also, a dedicated gaming PC/setup not connected to the internet. The only reason I have not and probably will not do that is I cannot afford it. Although I am sure there would be the odd occasion where I would want to connect the non-internet PC to the internet as it would be a pain after a while transferring stuff from the connected PC. ANyways, later today I am going to possibly wipe my NGBC config file and start again with it. It is quite a slow process setting up the handheld systems on RA with the overlay and custom screen size but if it gets it working again then it is worth it. This is what I talk about on other posts when I mention gremlins getting into one's system. I know there is always a reason for everything happening regardless if we know what it is. Though when I do not know what it is I blame it on the damn gremlins messing about.
  18. I did do the USB power saver thingy so hopefully, that will contribute to lessening future mishaps. My Hori works again with Retroarch after changing USB ports and restarting the computer, again! For some reason, my Game Boy Color games do not work on Retroarch with the Hori and the keyboard does not respond at all making it so I had to turn off my computer and turn it back on again to get out of it even though it says F1 is mapped to menu toggle. Strange things are afoot at the Circle K. Thanks for your suggestions, it is nearly back to normal.
  19. Thanks for the suggestions. I did update RA but that was after the problem. I have rebooted but it also did not help. I have not however swapped USB ports but will do so tonight as I’m about to have breakfast then do some renovations around the house. Afterwards, I will also do that USB energy saver option, thank you.
  20. Hiya, yes I’ve tried dinput and xinput changes as well as many others. The controller still works on MAME. Mednafen coincidentally won’t remember controls either but that’s probably something else.
  21. So, I have been playing games on my setup and everything has been working perfectly. I have done or changed absolutely nothing on my PC, my controller has not been plugged out etc. I go to play some games today and Retroarch does not recognise my Hori FC, it shows it in the input menu but does not respond to it. Also, I cannot navigate through any of Retroarch's except with the mouse, which is painful. Nothing I do seems to change anything. I have not had it play up like this at all before. I have been trying all day to fix it and I am at a complete loss. I would just wipe it all and reinstall Retroarch but I have so many damn setting which would be excruciating to reset like all my shaders and handheld borders. When I first started using LaunchBox and Retroarch I would always ask questions because it was daunting and confusing. I am at a point now where I have had everything long enough that I can figure most things out but this one has me beat. Would anyone be kind enough to spitball some ideas?
  22. When you reply to someone there’s no need to quote the entire post when it is that huge and your comment is so simple/small as it just clutters up the page unnecessarily. I’m not trying to make a negative comment, but just offer a helpful tip, thanks.
  23. I like it too, it makes it easier to hunt people down if they ever say something I do not like.
  24. Bundaberg, QLD (Queensland), Australia. 01) Koalas are not bears. 02) Toilets flush both directions in both hemispheres. 03) Fosters is one of the most unpopular beers over here. 04) I, or most people here, have never put a shrimp on the ‘barby’. We do not even call them shrimp, we call them prawns. 05) About a quarter of Australians were born overseas (26%) which is a higher proportion than any other nation on Earth. So we are not all descendants of convicts.
