So just got 10.15-beta-2 and in BigBox I have HUGE box artwork as the background behind each game in the carousel which looks real nasty ?

I changed no settings so something is no longer respecting my preferences (I use a platform specific image behind all games - which is pulled from Images\Platforms\PlatformName\Fanart) which until today has been working just fine (my theme is ModernMini)...

On my front room system which is locked to non-beta releases, so is on 10.14, it works just fine...

    Any suggestions?

    sTeVE

I too had Front Box art end up as Background art, and I thought it was some error that happened while I was downloading some metadata media for Primal Rage and at random the Beta pop-up froze it to where I had to force it all to close, but seems I'm not the only one who had this happen. Had to go in an rearrange the Background priorities all over again, and I think I had to do that with some other stuff, but the Backgrounds for sure had to be fixed back.

Why are 32X games in the Genesis platform when there's a 32X platform?

I felt making a 32X platform was unnecessary since there are only so few titles, so it's better to have them part of Genesis. I like to also have Regional artwork and names set to their most accurate too. It's very much still a work in progress of course

  3. image.thumb.png.1fb2ef80233e6c5598bf81639577dff4.pngWeird glitch going on where the left side is claiming I'm on the GameCube platform, but LaunchBox opened to the Genesis stuff I'm working on after Installing the new Beta, Unsure if this has a possibility to happen again, but figured I'd share it and hope it can avoid any confusion. I selected Genesis after doing the screenshot, and all seems fine

  4. Had an issue last night that I keep forgetting to mention of when the notification of a new Beta is available pops up in LaunchBox some time later at random after starting it up, and it gets hidden under the Edit window to where you end up having to close LaunchBox and open it again just to access that pop-up notification. I kinda been wishing there was something that would come up on the top or side somewhere to be clicked when available instead of freezing things up such as when it comes up during downloading some Metadata in which then the download gets stuck and nothing can be cancelled or closed other than LaunchBox itself

Can not say I have ever had that happen. Just tested updating metadata/medua for a handful of games and some of them I changed to random emulators before I did to see if it changed. Mame is set as my default for Arcade so changed several games to Retroach and a couple to FBA and ran media updater. All games stayed what I changed them too and of course the ones listed as Mame stayed as well.

This might be something you want to start a thread and troubleshoot.

Yeah..like I have several versions of MAME going for certain titles that may not work with the newest versions, so when I search Metadata it will roll to the default MAME I have set as the newest one available when I may actually need to run a certain older version of MAME or possibly FBA. I guess I'll try making a thread later when I can though, and there are some other topics I need to do such as trying to figure a way to set my Hyperkin Admirals for only N64 RetroArch games & etc.

  6. I think another thing I wanna see happen is if we can fix where it no longer sets a game back to the default Emulator when you search Search for Metadata. That can get kinda annoying when you want to get all the proper media and details set and then find out your game no longer works right because the Emulator got changed, and then you have to go back in to Edit and remember which one it was set to.

I think it would be cool to have within the Pause Menu options tab... "+ custom Pause Menu item". You can then give it a label, then link it to any folder you like such as "guides" or "commercials".

For me I already have commercials set for my gameplay video, and even by region as long as they have one made just so it all feels very museum to me and others who play. I think even if something isn't my style I would like it to be open to happen for whatever may tend to satisfy another, and seems @Jason Carr really understand that which makes me respect him further since he's not one of those guys who made it his way only without taking requests like some others may do. So I feel as long as someone mentions something they want to see in LaunchBox/BigBox on the Forums, he's gonna do his best to make it happen, even if that feature may take a while to get to on his ever-growing list, it'll be so worth the wait once he gets to it.

The only thing i want is a folder for guides and media like the Pause menu from Rocketlauncher. Manuals are nice but I look at guides way more than I ever look at manuals. I can add guides as a separate app and view them in the Details view but there's no way to access guides or walkthrough videos from the Pause menu while playing the game.

Can't believe such a simple thing was never implemented.

Has me thinking that Pause Menus should be customizable as to what things you would want to appear in them for both useful or just to look cool. Not sure if we should have it as a per game or per platform basis though, but I think that extra bit of customization would be satisfying to whatever type of gamer's preference can be.

  9. I usually have a list of ideas, but I think for now I would like to request a way to search the Versions as a category. I know also some Emulators haven't been a 100% in working with Pause Screens in which I have yet to test until the Home/Guide button was functional for that, and I'm aware that may take a very long while until any of that gets worked on again, but thought I'd add that here.

I also would like to see a way we can add Video in the Series section of BigBox along with Clear Logos and other things as we already do for Platform Categories instead of doing it via a Playlist. I think also to have it be done that way with Publishers and Developers too along with whatever other category anyone wants to do that with for the sake of being more customizable and giving others a far more unique look than any other as they wish to do so.

I think another idea I would like is being able to see the artwork and details of other titles that have been combined instead of just being a list of text too.

Another one I would like to see is something like a Joy-to-Key but built-in to help make setting up control schemes much easier since some games can be a hassle to use a similar App with in making sure your game controller will actual play at launch and properly close after you exit to avoiding things conflicting in function

That's all I can think of off the top of my head for now, and can't wait until the next Poll comes for 2020 too

Unfortunately, if you turn on uploading your high scores, you won't be able to save. That's the only way to do it securely. Save states tend to mess with the whole system anyways.

Okay, thanks for confirming this more clearly. I rarely save, but want to be able to when I can, so I guess I'll have to further decide if I wanna do the High Scores or not. I think with me I'm trying to just beat the game more than anything, but I do understand the gaming community as a whole on a global level still are keeping the High Score system alive and well which I even appreciate even if I may decide not to take part. I just love all the cool optional features that keep becoming part of LaunchBox/BigBox each time so that all will have a setup that is never 2 alike unless they choose to do so themselves. Any chance we'll get around to a 2020 Poll for other features to be requested soon? I know some are still kinda taking part in the 2019 one as of lately though

working in the options menu and going 'back' really lags, anyone else?

I kinda feel I've caught more lag since the badges, but I also think it may have to do with the specs of my laptop and my constantly updating everything and dumping the Cache-BB folder after every visit to BigBox since I found out how much Hard Drive space it was eating up after a while.

In Big Box Controller Mappings do you have the "Close Active Window" set to those bindings?

We were playing through LaunchBox, but seems I overlooked the Exit Game part as it was set something which is likely R and L on those controllers which I never even considered was an option until I just looked further down the list of Mappings. I'll try and take a look at how it comes out on BigBox later though since sometimes it seems controller commands in LaunchBox don't always do what is set in BigBox and the other way around. As I can remember we didn't have any games exiting when in BigBox with those controllers though

  13. Okay, so my Wife @Haydee and I have been using the Retro-Bit Bluetooth SEGA Saturn controllers and seems when you hold the R and L shoulders together is when the game will exit. Not sure what mix of buttons my Wife did when button mashing, but when I held R and L together is when noticed it exited out of KEGA Fusion and 4DO so far. I already found it weird that these controllers earlier on kinda don't turn back on with the Home button unless you pair them again, but for some odd reason tonight they seemed to do okay with turning back on until the problem turned into one where it makes the game exit somehow. Retro-Bit told me on Twitter they are aware of the controllers not turning back on properly and are working on a Firmware update, but now I wonder on the LaunchBox/BigBox side of things as to what can keep the games from exiting if button mashing happens with these controllers

You can combine roms per platform that have the same name in LaunchBox already. All versions found that aren't the primary entry will be listed as an additional application that you can right click in LB and play or select in Big Box (if you don't have game details skipped). Metadata like Version and Region are carried over in this process.

Cool, I'll check it out when I get a chance. Kinda felt it would just bunch them together and not so much let you pick other versions if you selected. So many cool features and options within this that I tend to overlook on various ways things can be done. Just good we have a community here that is helpful and chill about getting things pointed in the proper direction needed though

  15. As far as multiple titled games go, I have yet to try in the past to combine them and hope if in BigBox they end up listed within itself if you select one or not. So I've always kept everything separate to where it now looks like I have about 20+ of the same game listed in a Platform which can sometimes be annoying. These can be things like Regional versions or Hacked versions of a game, and even some Revisions of it as well. If this is already possible, then cool, but if not then I would really like to see that happen so things can look much more tighty, and maybe even load quicker too

What emulator (and core) were you using?

Project64 v2.3. I'm hoping they have an update too unless I overlooked one. I try stay away from RetroArch since for some unknown reason it doesn't wanna HDMI all that well for my projector setup. Not sure whoelse is experiencing some games on Project64 v2.3 that end up super brightening the screen in a way that only restarting the PC is the only way to fix it, but hopefully someone found a way to fix that issue too since I think I seen somewhere the programmer of that doesn't know what could be the issue with that brightening even though some have stated it. Makes me wonder if that freezing is another issue with Project64 v2.3 too or not which has me a bit concerned with that version more on the stability of it.

Hmm, hard to say what's going on there. Is that the Big Box main view, the pause screen, or the startup screen stuck like that?

It's the main view, like where all the N64 games are listed

  18. 4 hours ago, Jason Carr said:

Pretty much all of this is related to the startup and/or pause screens, which have always been hacks, because that's straight up the only way to implement them (unfortunately they fly in the face of how Windows wants apps to work). On most systems all these features work fine, but there are still some systems that have occasional trouble. In that case, unfortunately your best option is to just disable the startup or pause screens, or try updating drivers, as it's often caused by driver issues. I wish I had a better solution for this, but there really isn't one. We held off on implementing startup and pause screens for ages for this very reason, but eventually went ahead with them due to user demands. There really aren't any better solutions out there for those features, so we did the best that we could.

@Jason CarrVery understandable, and I know you mean well in trying your best in giving us as much of a flawless product as you can too. I will see about updating some drivers, and if not I will just hang in there and try do what I've been doing to get around it.

Hey! Maybe not directly related to the beta versions, I've had this for quite some time.

Whenever I launch BigBox I sometimes see the Start Menu, and I have to click or alt-tab to make it go away.

It doesn't happen every time, maybe 1/5 times perhaps? I have my Start Menu on the left hand site, could that have something to do with it?

Or could it be some other application claiming focus?

    It looks like this.

    Any ideas?

Edit: Seems like it's only happening on my TV, which in this case is my third monitor, connected via HDMI. My other two displays are connected via DVI.

I launched BB about 5 times on my main monitor with only the main and second monitor connected, HDMI pulled out, didn't see the start menu once.

Connected the TV via HDMI, extended my desktop and used only the TV. Launched BB 4 times, 3/4 the Start Menu is visible.

You can see how it looks here as well.

I too have this happen at times, and even sometimes I have where it while force me back to BigBox in the middle of a game in which I have to Alt+Tab back to it, or sometimes things like VirtualJaguar or some other random Emulator will launch behind BigBox to where you have to either try and Alt+Tab over to it or press Esc to back out of the game and try to launch it again. I have also times where I will exit a game and come to a black screen in which I have to Alt+Tab back to BigBox. Much of the time when I start BigBox I found if I mess with the volume control that it somehow speeds up the waiting too. Some of these I've stated before, and some of these I keep forgetting to mention until someone here with something similar reminds me enough to state the issue or issues I'm having. Hopefully @Jason Carr or @C-Beatswill have a solution for any or all of these, but for now I kinda am dealing with it all as I currently am.

10.10-beta-1 is out now with the following:

    • New Feature: Background blurring can now be fine tuned to any amount (or easily turned off) under Tools > Options > Visuals > Backgrounds. Background blurring options are also now available for all themes, including the old default theme.

    • Improvement: Performance for the new default theme is now on par with the old default theme. We're using a completely new method to blur the backgrounds, since the old method was causing performance degradation.

    • Improvement: Box shadows for the new default theme can be disabled under Tools > Options > Visuals > Boxes in order to improve performance on lowend systems

    • Improvement: Numbers sections of titles will now be sorted numerically by default, instead of alphabetically. For example, the new logic will sort 1, 2, and 11 as 1, 2, 11 instead of the 1, 11, 2 order that was used previously.

    • Fixed: In Big Box, the retro achievements game details web view can now be zoomed in and out with the proper bindings

We've also added the manifest to supposedly support long path names, but we haven't been able to test and confirm that it's working. If anyone can confirm either way on this, please let us know.

I'm so glad you put in a blurring option now @Jason Carr, and I thank you big time for this as well since I hoped it would be this way too. I recently downloaded the Theme you had to kill the blurring, but sounds like I can go back to the Default like I always feel best to do since I feel that is best to help testing, and maybe will cause less hiccups with things too even though other themes seem so cool and tempting to try out later on.

The numerical order thing sounds like such an amazing idea that I didn't even think of, but I know some games need something like that involving games that use roman numerals as well. Like we often see a sequel with "II" instead of "2" but then the third game as "3" instead of "III" like Mortal Kombat and a few others do. Not sure if there is a way to make it where "Mortal Kombat II" can go right before "Mortal Kombat 3" or any other game that does that too, but would be such an awesome fix if somehow it was possible though.
