Jason Carr
Hey all, I'm working on designing a 2-player bartop arcade cabinet branded with LaunchBox/Big Box. We're ordering the cabinet itself from Monster Arcades: http://www.monsterarcades.com This is an example of the cabinet we're having built by them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqVLsBNuBrQ We're building this cabinet for a couple reasons. One, I need a cabinet to play with that has LEDblinky support, to help with development and testing as I develop support for LEDblinky. We also intend to bring it with us to game conferences though to help show off what Big Box can do. So in a way, it will become our mascot. :) Hit us up here if you would like to contribute to the design of the cabinet. Monster Arcades will be hooking us up with PSD files we can use for the design. If you happen to be a skilled professional designer with a proven track record (and I can see your previous work), I would be willing to discuss payment. Otherwise, I would love to get some ideas/help from hobbyists and everyone else as well. I'll upload the PSD files here as soon as I get them from Monster Arcades. I should get them shortly. :)
Jason Carr
Hi all, the PSD files are attached. :) A few instructions I've received from Monster Arcades: - Use RGB mode in Photoshop - The images will be printed in 300 DPI - Remember that all edges will need to bleed and be cut out for printing Thanks! Let me know if anyone is interested in helping. :)
Rincewind
Where is the attachment?
SentaiBrad
I let him know it didn't attach, but he's currently doing the Live Developer Sessions on Twitch right now.
Jason Carr
Oh, ha, the attachment is there but apparently it's not accessible to everyone, figures. Jason Carr
Absolutely! Gonna surprise me with something Rincewind? :) https://www.dropbox.com/s/780bz7lnzxt2a1u/Huge%20LaunchBox%20Logo%20with%20Text.psd?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/2wpdw5rc81avjo3/LaunchBox%20Word%20Black%20Logo.psd?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/8r4dtwl4f6wso99/Big%20Box%20Logo%20and%20White%20Text%20Below.psd?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/tm3xkp6udxn92mq/Big%20Box%20Word%20Black%20Logo.psd?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/sis6nivki47hstb/Big%20Box%20Word%20White%20Logo.psd?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/kkxwewdte57rkas/BigBox_Logo.ai?dl=0 Not sure what you or anyone has in mind, but I would say don't shy away from videogame characters or anything of that nature. I'd rather have it be lively than professional-looking and boring. Not really sure how to incorporate the LaunchBox and/or Big Box logos with videogame characters though lol... SentaiBrad
Professional and fun can be a thing! I like how Jason and I did the same thing too... They are all (pretty much) the same images, except I don't have the BigBox White logo, and he provided PSD's.
Rincewind
Going to have a look today at work and hopefully something sparks a nice design I've got a few going round my head now, what colour t moulding will the cabinet be having, thank you for the files there help loads
SentaiBrad
Gonna look at them at work? I think I'm the only one that can get away with saying "I play video games for work" xD. Hope you don't get in trouble. Also, not that looking at images is playing video games, just the analog I'm using.
Jason Carr
Should be flexible with colors on the t-moulding, so we can design that around the design once we have it built. Sounds great, @Rincewind, I appreciate it. :)
Rincewind
Work goes from a thousand miles an hour to just 20 so at the moment I'll have a bit of time, I even managed to build my cabinet at work last year from start to finish :)
martinconroy
Would be great if you could negotiate some cabinet deals with suppliers for registered users (especially in the UK) ;)
SentaiBrad
martinconroy said Would be great if you could negotiate some cabinet deals with suppliers for registered users (especially in the UK) ;) That's actually a super good idea Martin. I don't know if any of them would want to, but I don't know their margin for profit, so they may be able to. That would require us partnering up with someone though, and I am unsure if any of them would want to. If any Cab makers do want to partner with us, we're not necessarily against it. Jason Carr
Hey everybody! @Rincewind is indeed building the graphics for us, and he's doing a phenomenal job. Here are a couple of early prototypes for the sides: Let's hear your feedback! :)
Jason Carr
Heck yes! :)
CriticalCid
I really like both ideas. Using the LaunchBox Icon as a Mario Kart item and the BigBox icon as a trampoline is quite funny. For the different Donkey Kong versions I would say that I like the one with the black LaunchBox lettering on it the best. The only thing I don’t like is the grey brick wall background. It simply doesn’t have any arcade feeling to it. Nonetheless great job Rincewind! :)
Jason Carr
And Mario added... @CriticalCid, yeah, I can see that about the background. I don't mind it but we might be able to improve on it. Let us know if you have any more background ideas. One idea I had is just to fill in some of the empty space with more characters. @Rincewind is still here in the thread but I'm having to post the images because of forum permissions issues. He's certainly on a roll though; we got the best guy for the job. :)
