Configuring MAME to Run MESS systems.

Holy crap that actually worked. Cheers! I have a duplicate RetroArch emulator in RL I call MesstroArch that uses an old version of the RetroArch.ahk along with the mess 2015 core that works, but using the mame core is preferable as it gets updated. Thanks Paul!

You are welcome.  I spent a couple of hours yesterday searching for how to get it working as I wanted to use RetroArch with the mame core instead of the separate MAME and MESS that I was currently using.  I could not find the answer anywhere so decided to work it out.  The less emulators and cores I have to use, the simpler the config is (once you get it working) and as you say, the mame core gets updated.

The MESS core is outdated in RetroArch, and the same options should work on the regular MAME core, but once we're talking RL I have zero clue.

I still have problems with file extensions in RA. The .BIN extension (maybe) is STUCK to Mednafen PCE-CD core that I installed.

My target is a Super A'Can roms that MESS runs it; but the roms are in .bin format and even if I select MAME core, the upper bar shows that PCE-CD core has been opened. HELP

Do you have the core you want to load the roms with in the associated platforms list for that platform ?

Yes, I have installed the MAME (latest) core.

But is your associated platform for the system pointing to the core ?

You say that it's showing PCE-CD core is opened tells me it's not.

Also running stuff through the Mame/Mess core in Retroarch is a supreme pain in the ass.

I'm not running it through LB, just RA itself.

Also, the prob is only with .bin files.

to use MESS games in RA you pretty much have to use the software list games there is a way to do this but it involves making special edits to every game you want to run that way. For MESS stuff MAME is really much easier to get going
