snoopaloop83
Hello, Some roms that I had working previously aren't working anymore. When I launch them the screen goes black and returns to the launch box screen. One ROM for example is SF2 Hyper Fighting. I have the rom pointed to the correct paths for the rom sfthf.zip and I even tried an alternative of sf2t.zip. As for the emulator I have it on the correct path as well for MAME.exe I've even tried using Retro Arch as a substitute but to no avail. This happened when I dumped a bunch of ROMs into my folder, most of them were duplicates that I instructed windows to overwrite the files with the same file names. Not sure why they wont launch anymore the paths are correct. This happens for alot of other ROMs as well including 100% of my neo geo roms that also worked previously. I am new to the forums and just started with Launchbox a week ago, love the program. Looking to make the best of it, it is certainly one of the best and most versatile front ends available. Let me know if I can provide any further information.
Jason Carr
Hi @snoopaloop83, welcome. Unfortunately there are lots of things that could be causing this problem. Different ROMs work with different versions of MAME, so it could just mean that you need an updated version of the ROMs. Or it could be that MAME is configured improperly somehow, but the first thing I would try is getting an updated version of the ROM to see if that helps. snoopaloop83
Just tried replacing the rom with the US version as opposed to the WORLD version. I changed the ROM path and it didnt work either...im not sure whats wrong. :-/ What can I do within mames configuration settings to troubleshoot it? SentaiBrad
There really isn't much. If they were working on an older version of MAME, then add both versions of MAME to LaunchBox and tell the problem games to use that version instead. MAME is very very finicky. snoopaloop83
Ive tried using retro arch too, i downloaded MAME and Final Bun cores too to see if those work...unfortunately not. Maybe there is some sort of basic or critical configuration setting im overlooking in launchbox or mame?
snoopaloop83
I installed a seperate MAME 64.exe just to test out the roms and most roms launch but when i try to launch neo geo roms or street fighter 2 turbo it says im missing roms or CHD images. @sentaibrad @jasoncarr
CADScott
When you overwrote the existing file in your MAME directory, you have replaced the working rom with another one that, while having the same name, does not work with the version of MAME you are using. As Brad said, MAME is VERY picky about having the correct roms, and you should never dump new roms in your directory unless you are absolutely sure they are for your version of MAME. The only way to fix this is to use clrmamepro to audit your roms, which will fix it perfectly, but requires quite a lot of learning on your part to get it to run properly. It is worth learning thought, as it makes it very easy to manage all your roms, not just MAME. There was an excellent tutorial written on this forum not very long ago for clrmamepro, but I cannot seem to find it in the search box, not sure why. Lordmonkus
snoopaloop83 said I installed a seperate MAME 64.exe just to test out the roms and most roms launch but when i try to launch neo geo roms or street fighter 2 turbo it says im missing roms or CHD images. @sentaibrad @jasoncarr Is it saying you are missing the neogeo bios and the qsound file for capcom games ? If so you need those separate rom files as well as the actual game files.
