.bin to .iso conversion

Zombeaver said Why are you trying to convert .bin to .iso for the purposes of PSX emulation in Retroarch? The Mednafen PSX core natively accepts .bin + .cue.
It would just make my PSX game folder less messy. I just personally don't like how it is loaded with .cue, .bin and .ape files. I could leave the .cue and .bin files in a folder for each game, but it would take forever to add all my games to Launchbox. Basically, I'm just being fussy. Laugh

So...instead of creating folders for each game you're...creating .iso files for each game? That's more time efficient? haha I don't think Mednafen actually supports .isos to be honest. I'm not 100% positive but I don't believe it does. It supports bin/img + cue/toc/ccd. My advise is to start making those folders Wink

Oh boy. Time to get back to work, then. Thanks for your help, though.

Wait you can have every game in its own folder and add it to LB easily you just use the search parameter .bin when you want to import the games and it will pull them all out of the folders and list just the .bin files. All of this stuff is covered multiple times in the YouTube tutorials.

I don't know that that's necessarily the issue though. He's got all of his files in one big folder and it just looks messy (in Windows) I think is the hangup. I don't know that it necessarily has anything to do with difficulties during the Launchbox import process.

From what he wrote there I thought they were all in individual folders but he didn't want to move all his multifiles into a single folder which I don't blame him I have all of my files in individual folders for any disc games with multiple files.

Maybe I misunderstood, I dunno. I took "leave" to be a mistype for "put" given that the preceding sentence was:
It would just make my PSX game folder less messy. I just personally don't like how it is loaded with .cue, .bin and .ape files.
I was under the impression that he had one big "PSX Roms" folder just full of all the loose rom (and associated) files and that it was messy but he didn't want to have to make individual folders for them all because it would be time consuming. I think that program I linked would help, at least a little bit, if that's the case. If they are in individual folders already... well then I'm not really sure what the problem is haha.

I thought it was that OP didn't understand how the search worked during import. I know when I started out I had no clue how this worked and I had to ask on the forums. I was importing whole folders at the time and getting dupes for everything.

Please forgive me if I am misunderstanding what the OP is asking for here but if I am understanding the correctly the OP wants to convert all the Playstation cue, bin and ape files into a single image that can be read by Retroarch. The answer to this is convert all the ape files to wav and then use Isobuster to merge it into a cue & bin followed then by converting that into a PBP. There is work to all of this but you will get your Playstation games into a single file (even the multidisk games). I use the tool "PSX2PSPv1.4.2" to convert mulitdisk games to PBP. If that is something of interest I did a sort of guide on converting game downloads that were in ecm and ape format but it follows pretty much the same step. Just ignore the ecm parts if needed. https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/emulation/playstation-ecm-and-ape-files-guide#p23077 Once the conversion of the ape files and merging into a cue & bin are done then use PSX2PSP to convert that into a PBP.

Yep, PBP is another option, and they work fine in Mednafen. I guess my response, again, would be "This is more time efficient?" I feel like as time-consuming as creating individual folders might be, it probably would be faster than such a conversion process. I'm not saying PBPs aren't cool or that it's not something people should look into, just that if creating some folders is considered too much work/too time-consuming I kinda doubt this is going to be seen as a viable alternative Confused I wish I had known about PBP when I went through and created m3us for all my multi-disc games though haha

Oh I agree it's a lot of effort and the only reason I brought it up is because in the OPs 2nd post he mentioned the .ape files. If he has these .ape files and is going through the effort of converting all of them and wants to go that extra step there is a way and that is how you do it :) Even with all my games in cue & bin I have them all separated into folders anyways. I do need to go through my collection because I know I have some games with multiple bin files for audio tracks and want to convert it all down into a single bin.

  • 5 months later...

Sorry to bump this thread... but for these PS1 games... I have about 15-20 games... they all have the .bin and the .cue, which I will be using RetroArch and Mednafen PSX through RA. Right now before actually setting up the emulator and games in LB and RA can I leave these in folders to keep them organized or do I need to just have a giant "games" folder with all the files? Like mentioned above having each file in a folder makes organization easier so just was curious before I start putting in the time to organize everything into folders...
