knightCrawler Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 I just found a 6,000+ Nintendo DS rom pack but I need to rename since they all have numbers in front of rom name exp. 0001-Mario, so I was thinking is there a mass file renames where I can remove those numbers in front of roms? Thanks Quote
DOS76 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 I used Bulk Rename Utility to change the name of the folders they are all in and take out the numbers and then in LB I used the use folder name option during the import. Quote
DOS76 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 You could always use the Windows search features to find just the roms extensions and then copy all of them out of the folders and do the same to the ROMs and jettison the folders all together if you wanted to edit the ROM names and not the folder names 1 Quote
neil9000 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 I second bulk rename utility, you can just tell it to take off a certain number of characters at the beginning or end of a file name, and you can do that to a whole folder in one go. Quote

How do I get it? I I guess If I want to rename 0 to 99 I have to tell software to remove 2 characters but once I get into the 100's I have to tell the software to remove 3 characters!!! The roms are not in different folder and they all have the same extension so removing by extention will not work for me. Quote
neil9000 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 It's been a long time since i had to do it, but i remember doing it all in one go with the DS roms. You could always do the remove two to get rid of 1-99, then remove one on those files again to remove 100-999 then remove one again to do 1000-9999. Quote
neil9000 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 There is also a preview window that will show what the file-names will look like so you can double check before confirming the edit. Quote

knightCrawler Posted June 4, 2017 Author Posted June 4, 2017 I download but it will take me some time to understand the program options is quite extensive. Quote
syntax_X Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 (edited) +6000 DS roms with dodgy names? Id at least try to use CLRmamepro with a valid .dat on as many roms as I could. Your going to get a headache scrolling thru that collection lol. http://datomatic.no-intro.org/?page=downloadhttps://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/ Edited June 4, 2017 by syntax_X Quote
DJQuad Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 I made a batch file for this. NotePad++ helps a lot for this type of thing. nonumbers.bat Quote
syntax_X Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 That batch file only has 159 lines and there is no way of telling if his games are named the same. Quote
DJQuad Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 I know. You start by doing a "dir > dir.txt" in the directory and load it into NotePad++. From there just use macros, column mode editing, and search and replace. Creating that file took under 10 minutes. @knightCrawler if that's over your head just attach your dir.txt 1 Quote
syntax_X Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Just making sure that it wasn't going to be run. If its an example its best to put it in text. Quote
jonathan.F Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Hey there KnightCrawler! I personally use BatchRenameFiles Tool to bulk rename my files, I highly recommend it as it does the job fast and it gets it done right. Quote
