how do you handle 2 games with same name on same platform?

ok, i've added the Nickelodeon bit in front and the change went through tonight, guess i'll add the other game now.

but in general, would it be possible to have 2 games in the DB for the same system with an identical name or would this produce problems, i mean the entries would technically still have a different ID in the DB?

LaunchBox would of course get confused which one to pick when adding roms.

ok, update:

so it turns out the Metadata search function thingy in LaunchBox fails to find the nickelodeon game completely if you just have "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" as the filename.
You need to manually type in Nickelodeon in front of it for the entry to show up at all (that requires some level of mind reading capability, i don't think anyone would actually do that)
I don't like that "nickeloden" name in front anyway because it messes with the alphabetical order (muh OCD!), i want the TMNT games to be together...

So, attempt number 2:

I just do like Amazon does!
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", no nickelodeon
and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The Movie

makes more sense to add "- The Movie" at the end (more intuitive), the search should then also show both entries, i hope.

( i know, this bothers me more than it should ;P )

The way it is working makes way more sense to me than appending the movie onto the title when that isn't the title of the game one of our DB standards is to use the box title. We have many games that have Disney on the front of them because that is how the box labels them and yes other sites sometime have them listed without the Disney part on them but regardless that is how we are doing it. I hope that it doesn't cause you that much of an issue.

Could be an argument for adding the barcode/catalogue/part/serial number? Like the SLES, SCES etc. on PS1 games for example.
Although we would still have the issue for older consoles/computers :/  and I presume it would require some serious rewrite in how LB finds the games on the database?

I've dealt with this issue in the past by manually altering the rom name by adding the developer/publisher behind it like this <gamename>_Activision.<extension>. Then manually adding the meta data for said games if LB has problems picking up the right one.

I've been wondering the appropriate way to handle this myself.  I've been adding several re-released games (different dev/pub) on older systems and they've been scraping/identifying as the original or visa-versa.  Wouldn't be so bad if it didn't gum-up all of my artwork and the manuals/vids auto-renamed like the images do.

Some of the re-releases are very different games and should definitely have DB entries themselves, but I don't want to gum things up.
