Need Help Setting Up X-Arcade Trackball

I've setup the trackball to be detected in Windows and LB, however when I launch any games that use the trackball such as Golden Tee, Centipede, etc. the trackball doesn't work. I'm able to move it around as a mouse but that's about it. I'm sure this is a pretty simple setup, however I have not been able to figure it out.

I'm using Retroarch for most of my games. Any help would be incredibly helpful.

Not sure how you set it up in Retroarch but in Mame you have to set up the mouse to control trackball games

Open up the mame.ini file in notepad and look for the following section:

#
# CORE INPUT AUTOMATIC ENABLE OPTIONS
#

Then set trackball_device to mouse:

trackball_device          mouse

Thanks for the quick response Lordmonkus. I am using Mame64 and don't have a mame.ini file. What version of mame would you recommend for use via LB? Retroarch is using the mame arcade core for most of my arcade games.

I always update my Mame to the latest version and there has to be a mame.ini somewhere, it should be located in the main folder where the Mame executable is but it can sometimes be in the /ini sub folder though that usually doesn't work with LB.

I ended up getting the trackball to work per your instructions via the Mame executable directly which is great but do you know if there's a way to get this working via LB when using RetroArch? When I launch the game via LB the trackball simply acts as a mouse and the game doesn't recognize it for some reason.

I'm sure there is a way but like I said, I don't use RA for Mame at all, I much prefer stand alone Mame.

To generate mame.ini, plugin.ini & ui.ini you will need to open Command Prompt to your MAME folder and then type mame64.exe --cc

Okay, thanks guys. I was able to get the trackball working via Mame directly so that will have to sufface for now. There's only a few trackball games I use anyway so it shouldn't be that big of a nuisance. Thanks again!

I'm reviving this old thread because I'm at a loss.  I tried two versions of golden tee ('99 and 2k) for the first time but my trackball isn't working.  I can swing the club with the joystick but I'd rather use the trackball.

I have the mouse enabled in my ini file:

Since you're using multi mouse, there is a chance your device order has changed. If you hit TAB in MAME and go to game input and reset analog x & y, is it different from what was previously set? If so, you need to use MAME's device mapping to make your mice indexes constant.

Thanks. I found on x-arcade's site that multimouse should be set to 0.  I did it and everything is working.  Thanks for replying!
