Nastyboob
I got my first look at Launchbox when I finished my arcade cabinet build. I think it was version 6, but I am not sure. Anywho, I really love the LB and bought the 1 year premium license and did a few updates. Everything has always worked perfectly with LB and Big box. Yesterday I booted up my arcade for the first time in over a year. Played on it for a few hours and had a few issues with lag and finally Windows crashed and my computer rebooted. When I startad lb again I got the error message "root element missing". I read a few threads on the topic, but took the Lazy way and updates my 7.10 version to 8.3 (somehow I had an update file in the lb folder). After the update Launchbox started and I got a huge error report in LB. I tried to play a few games without any issues, but then i tried to boot big box. I Loaded my old license file and entered big box. The app crashed. At first I tought that BB crashed since I Loaded the old expired license file. So I renewed my license and tried again, same issue. I uninstalled lb and tried again with the newest 9.8 version. And this time lb was not able to start. Windows reported an issue and the app closed. Repeated the whole thing, but this time I deleted the whole lb folder after uninstalling. Same issue. My computer in my cabinet is old as fudge, so I reinstalled Windows 7 since I had a couple of issues with some other stuff to. New installation ofvWindows 7 ultimate SP1 x64, drivers and everything that is required to get LB running. Same issue. Uninstalled Lb again, but this time I installed 8.3. It seems to work at the moment, I'm adding some roms at the moment to see what happends when I boot Big box. So could the answer to the 9.8 issues and maybe a couple of other of the latest versions be that it does not support Windows 7? Sorry about the long post and terrible english ? Windows 7 is supported still, but you may be missing the latest version of .NET 4.7, this comes with Windows on Windows 10, but you need to manually install it on 7 i believe. Nastyboob
I got. NET 4.7 installed. I think it was required on the early versions to, but I am not sure.
neil9000
It could also be a VLC issue, you can try deleting the VLC folder while Launchbox is closed and let it recreate it at launch. Also some images of the actual errors you are receiving would be very helpful to try and help troubleshoot.
DOS76
try deleting the cefsharp folder also.
Nastyboob
I will try that if I get the same error again using 8.3. But I guess that it´s not the issue in my case since I´ve formatted my hdd and installed Launchbox on a clean disk. But I will give it a try If the problems continue. Thanx for the help ! Nastyboob
Well, the 8.3 worked as it should at the beginning. Added a few roms, and then I tried to open big box and see if it worked. After I open big box it updates LB to 9.8 without any questions asked. After the update is done, it crashes. This is the info when i crashed, Sorry but parts of it is in swedish. Nastyboob
And the Big box error message from windows Problemsignatur: Problemhändelsens namn: CLR20r3 Problemsignatur 01: BigBox.exe Problemsignatur 02: 9.8.0.0 Problemsignatur 03: 5ce57299 Problemsignatur 04: mscorlib Problemsignatur 05: 4.7.2053.0 Problemsignatur 06: 58fa6bc1 Problemsignatur 07: 41d6 Problemsignatur 08: 12 Problemsignatur 09: System.IO.FileNotFoundException OS-version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Språkvariant-ID: 1053 Ytterligare information 1: fcf6 Ytterligare information 2: fcf6433cbc9ac41c70d75250a27c353b Ytterligare information 3: bc3b Ytterligare information 4: bc3b08ea2bb9ef5f6bd3cc4678226381
Nastyboob
Also, deleting the cefsharp folder and the VLC did not help in my case.

Not sure about the error, but if you have updates checked for automatically downloading in the background it will not ask you anything. It will just update. You have to make sure that box is unchecked to get the prompt.
Jason Carr
Somewhere along in that update process, we did update to the 4.7 version of the .NET framework. That error message suggests that somehow the .NET Framework install is corrupted. So I think what you'll need to do is uninstall the .NET Framework 4.7 and then re-install it. I will try to reinsall it from version 8.3 again and disable the auto update. I really don´t mind playing an old version of LB as long as it works. But ofcourse it would be nice to have an updated version of the awesome Launcher. 18 minutes ago, Retro808 said: Not sure about the error, but if you have updates checked for automatically downloading in the background it will not ask you anything. Would it make any difference if i reinstall Launchbox after I have reinstalled -Net 4,7?

I'm fairly lost at this point. I know that 9.8 works perfectly fine on Windows 7 (tested it myself and lots of other users are using it as well). But not since reinstalling Net 4.7- I will give it a try, If i tdon´t work I will give it a shot running an older version of Launchbox. Thanks for the help guys!
Nastyboob
Aaaand it didn't work..! ? One last question before I give up and try on 7 or 8.00 versions. Do you think It would be any different if I install Windows 10 and give it a try with 9.8? No big deal for me to give it a try if you think it could make a difference. But if it doesn't make any sense I won't do it ?

One last question before you do that though; are you running any anti-virus/anti-malware apps?
Nastyboob
Then I will give it a shot with win10. No I have no antivirus or firewalls enabled. Just a clean Windows 7 with nothing else than NET and Launchbox on it ? Thanx again guys, you have been very helpfull! ?
Nastyboob
Final update. Installed Windows 10 and Launchbox 9.8. Works perfectly! Updated to 9.9 after the installation, no issues what so ever. I guess there was something wrong with my Win7. The strange thing is that it worked fine for a long time before the crash, but I could not get it to run again, even after I formatted my hdd och reinstalled win7. Well, Windows 10 solved everything, and it runs better than ever. So I guess the solution if someone else gets the same problem, install Windows 10 ? 1
DOS76
Glad you got it working and you should see that Windows 10 really is an improvement over Windows 7. Also EOL for Windows 7 is getting closer and closer all the time so soon it won't be supported by MS at all.
