This is all great info but splitting some roms into region categories is difficult. I am running into serious issues with Sega Master System, some roms are "Alex Kidd - High-Tech World (USA, Europe, Brazil)" or "Alex Kidd in Miracle World (USA, Europe)", so like creating a USA and EUROPE separately, etc. is causing me headaches, any suggestions ?

Usually if a rom only has a (USA, europe) version I just add it to the USA games. In the case where I already have a seperate (USA) version and then also have a (usa, europe) version I would add the (usa, europe) version to the European games. Not perfect without duplicating but it's what I did.?‍♂️

Personally I would add a (USA, Europe) ROM to both the USA platform and the Europe platform, and then scrape one with USA art and the other with Europe art.

I know this is an old post, but I just got my first LB/BB setup installed on a mini-pc and found this post on a way to better organize my library based on regions.

I tried searching around but could not find the answer.  What theme are you using or is the setup based on?  I really like a visual that give more information about the systems and games, and also has the sample videos.  Another question, what Big Box startup video is that?

Not sure if this will get seen, since this is an old post, but hopefully someone might have some suggestions for themes that best incorporate region filtering.  Thanks!

I'm just now starting to wonder whether to sort my collection by regions and if so, how to do it properly. The above solutions are really cool and even quick to do, but is it the best solution? Hmm.

I wonder if there is a specific website with a full list of games for a given platform that have been released, divided into regions and unlicensed, etc.

I see 3 disadvantages of this solution:

1. It's a pity that after creating the Platform category and adding the categories Europe, USA, etc., you can't add All Games, only in platforms.

2. As above, only with Favorites
But something for something hmm

3. 2-4-5 X more disk space to accommodate additional versions, which in most cases are not different at all, so.....

On the up, you could add a mini disadvantage:

A lot of clicking to get to a given wheel, but you have to choose whether you want to have order in your collection at the cost of going through layers or have one layer and have a mess :P

From time to time I think about reorganizing my collection from 1g1r sets to region-based sets at least for the older systems (up until PS1 maybe).

The benefits are clear: Different regional versions oftentimes have interesting variations and it's cool to have access to them.

However, in the end I always decide against it. There is just no good way to split the roms up. There are the main 3 regions, USA, EUR and JAP, so far so good. But what to do with World, Asia, German, Australia, and so on? Do they all get their own region-based platform? Do I just lump World in with USA and German with EUR? Do I duplicate the World roms and copy them into every region? And on and on it goes.

I cannot figure out clear rules to follow, so I always decide to just stick to my 1g1r sets.
