"object reference not set to an instance of an object"

Are you in a new machine? If so, something must be different between the old and new one if you are getting that message. Even if you are in the same drive letter, you need to bear in mind that Windows stuff from the main drive can be in use as well, so something in the C drive or main drive or even the Windows User profile folder might have a different path than before.

Try sharing the entire error message with the description as well, to see what it is that cannot be found.

LB works fine. The popup shows quickly then the games open and all work. When I esc from the game the popup is there to x out or hit ok. This is another PC in my house. The popup showed on windows 10 and upgraded to 11 and still the same message. "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

(This is useful information as to what exactly triggers the popup.)  So the popup appears when you go to launch a game?  Not before?

Which LB Theme are you using?  If you switch to a different Theme, do you get the same error popup?

Can you share a screenshot of the error window.  Have you looked at any debugging logs?  Make sure it's on (Tools, Options). Exit LB, then restart it (to create a fresh log file). As soon as the error pops up, click OK on it and then close LB.  (Doing it this way will create a smaller log file.)  Then look at the most recent (just created) log file.

OK. Need help again. So here's what I narrowed it down to. I made a backup copy of my LB to another drive W. And when I tried to launch it LB opens and launches a game and works because it's looking for the original letter drive. In this case F:. When I change the letter drive F to another letter and change letter W to F I'm getting the error. Everything works but get that pop-up before it launches a game. I tried to overwrite everything from my original launchbox letter F but nothing works. Please help. Driving me crazy. Had to be something simple in  LB. Has to be when I tried to open Lb from letter W while still have the original F.

When the error pops up can you copy/paste it's contents to this post? There are a lot of potential causes for a null reference like that and the stack trace provided in that window will be crucial in determining the cause for the error.

Only thing on this HDD is the Launchbox folder. Everything works but I get this annoying popup when a game is launched. When I close the game I have to close the popup. It doesn't matter which system I play.

I see you're still using Neon Deluxe.  If you switch to a different Theme, do you get the same popup message?

I tried about 4 different themes and all have the same popup. I made 2 copies of my LB to two of my friends. The first one never did this. The second one did and also mine. The only thing I different was on mine and the other guys I opened launchbox using a different letter drive then F:. On the first one I never opened LB until I changed it to letter drive F:. So that's why I thought it was something in LB. I tried to overwrite it with the backups but still same popup. Very annoying.

So I just did a fresh install on letter F (I changed the name of my current LB folder). I imported a test sample of Nintendo 64 and no popups. So it has to be something in the original LB setup. Has to be looking for something to get this popup. This is on my backup drive. I changed it to letter F and works. But it gets the popup with my original LB folder.
