Pitfall on 5200 Emulation

Good afternoon everyone,

I've been working with the new a5200 core in Retroarch and I like it quite a lot. My only general qualm is that a small number of games have very strange color palettes (although I believe this was the same in a800) and I don't think there's any options to change that.

But Pitfall specifically, has an odd issue. It loads properly, but the "Start" button doesn't start the game. The game starts properly in Altirra, but not 5200. I know Pitfall had issues with 2 port 5200 machines, but I'm not sure if that's a bios issue or not.

Any suggestions?

I’m having that same issue. Ever get to the bottom of this?

There's also a fixed version that works perfectly with that core.

Well, there is a new version. I wouldn't call it fixed. Pitfall still doesn't start and now displays random ascii text. The sound is off on all games and the controls are more sluggish.

Just to clarify, I was referring to a fixed Pitfall rom. Starts and plays perfectly for me with the a5200 core.

I know this is an old topic. I have the same issue with Pitfall not starting. I don't have a problem with Pitfall II. It's one of my faves so any pointers or help would be very much appreciated. I'm not sure if it's possible to have game-specific cores in RA ? Or some simpler way of just editing the code in the rom or whatever? Thanks

I'll have a look around my archives to see if I still have that fixed rom.

Sure you can.

At some point, I don't remember why, I switched to using the Retroarch MAME core for this single game, all others using the a5200 core.

I used the Retroarch MAME core over the standalone MAME core so I could still use the Duimon bezels and shaders.

Was curious about this as well, since I remember having the same issue a while back. Can't give any specific link of course, but if you do a search for "Pitfall (classic fix) 5200" that one should work with the Retroarch a5200 core.

Thanks for the info - I think I'm sorted now but it will definitely help others. Much appreciated :)
