The Image Thread (Platform Images, Clearlogos, Box Templates and More)
bd00 replied to bd00's topic in Contributions
scree said Hi bd000 just some platform images for some vintage British Home Computers - some a reworking and some new. Excellent work @scree I will add them to the repository. We need some more clear logos and device images now portachking said Hey! OK, so I know these aren't the ones you probably hoped from me @bd000 but it was what I started on before I offered to take the other end of the platform list. Anyway, I just finished them this evening and I wanted to share them. The font on the 7800 and 5200 aren't perfect... but not bad? Let me know, I think their quite handsome nonetheless. They're great @portachking However, I doubt they will display very well in BigBox because of the colors. Have you tested them? This is one of the biggest obstacles and you will probably have to change the colour, or find some method/effect to stop them getting lost in the background. I will still add them to the repository, because they are still awesome clear logos. Great job. Jason Carr said These are the problem-child images: Android (not terrible but doesn't stand out very well against brighter images) Atari 7800 (that red blends into the background a bit too much) iOS (the gray is a bit too dark, would probably work well if we just white-washed it) Nintendo Virtual Boy (again with the red blending in) WonderSwan Color (the WonderSwan works fine the but the Color letters blend in) TurboGrafx 16 (looks great but it's too tall to put on top of the games list) Thanks once again, bd. I can jump in and tweak them if needed. :) Try these: I have also finished the rest of the clear logos: @portachking, this doesn't mean you have to stop. Please keep improving on these. -

OK, here is another batch of clear logos. I've stopped for the time being because I'm unsure how much @portachking has done. Also, device images are now in the repository. -
My RPG is called Invention Destruction, come play and test it please!

Wish I had time mate. I definitely will when the opportunity arises though, it sounds awesome. -
Jason Carr said I'd put up backgrounds to test against, but really it's best to test against multiple images, because every logo is good and bad with different background images. It'd be best to put it in the app using Manage Platforms to get the best idea. I don't know why I asked LOL I was already testing against multiple backgrounds. I guess I wanted to know the level of tint. I didn't think of testing it in-app, I forgot you could add the clear logos. However, I don't fancy doing it like that, it would add considerable time to my job. Maybe the occasional tricky one. I will get some more done today, I just have a few work-related things to do first.

@j4syn I just had an idea how to speed up things for you. First download Notepad++ https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.7.8.2.html Then open up all your current batch files in Notepad++ (in the rom dir, use the searchbox in explorer and put *.bat, select all the results, right click and choose "Edit with Notepad++") Then in Notepad++ press Ctrl+H In the "Find what:" field paste this: /d "C:\Users\something\Desktop\LaunchBox\Emulators\Neo Geo\winkawaks163\WinKawaks.exe" NOTE: Make sure you don't add the space before the /d In the "Replace with:" field put this: .. (That's just two period's .. don't include this bit) Then press the button that says "Replace in All Opened Documents" Once that has complete press "Ctrl-Shft-S" or press the save all menu button. That should save you considerable time. All the best.

I know what's wrong, the problem is here: j4syn said cd /d "C:\Users\something\Desktop\LaunchBox\Emulators\Neo Geo\winkawaks163\WinKawaks.exe" It should be: cd .. It is entirely my fault. When I redid the launcher creation script, I made an error I have fixed the error now. First off, you need to do a few things to make sure the next part works: 1. Make sure you have set your path to your roms in winKawaks. 2. Make sure your batch files are in your ROM directory. 3. Make sure each batch file is in it's own folder. Once all those are true, rerun my script and move all the new batch files to the corresponding folders (overwriting the old ones). That should fix your issue. Really sorry about that, this script has caused me more issues than it has solved. Hopefully all the bugs have been wrinkled out now. When I have time I will rewrite that post of instructions too. I am planning to rewrite the script so it creates all the folders and puts the launch scripts in the correct directory too. Make it completely automated. But that will be a long and tedious script and I am struggling to find time at the minute, since all my "LB time" is focused on creating the images Jason needs. I will get round to it at some point...
-
Glad you figured it out. It is weird though, I am still unable to replicate this issue. What version are you using?
-
Ah right, so you only get the message when you launch a game and not when you launch winKawaks? Does this only happen on the first run? Or is it happening EVERY time you launch a game?
-
@maddoc1007 I Hope it is nothing serious and the results are good news. Best wishes.

I added a platform list here. Yeah, I have been trying to avoid having to put a white outline around everything. That reminds me, @Jason can you test the Atari 2600 & 5200 I did above and let me know if the effect works. Also, would it be at all possible to get a sample background, one that causes you the biggest problems, the worst you can find. Thanks. It doesn't matter that we have crossed path's, two options are better than one. However, it is probably best you start at the opposite end as me as it seems a little counterproductive to both be doing all the same images.

Since we are expanding away from only platform images, I created a new thread.

The Image Thread This thread is dedicated to the visual customization of LaunchBox and BigBox using images. So far it includes: Platform Images for BigBox Console/System/Device Clear Logo's Console/System/Device Transparent Images Game Box Templates Custom Game Box Covers Fanart Dropbox Repository I will do my best to upload all images in this forum, however I do occasionally miss some. All images will definitely be available in the Dropbox Repository. This repository will make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. Feel free to download and use whatever you want. Here is the link to the Dropbox repository! Other Repositories @MonarKay Custom Game Box Repository: HERE! @oxguy3 Game Box Repository: HERE! Contribute and Share Please contribute any missing images if you can. Anyone who wishes to share their own versions of images we already have, please do. The more variety the better. Contributors will be designated their very own exclusive spot in the "Contributors Hall of Fame" at the bottom of this post. A great achievement. All contributions will be added to the Dropbox repository. Dimensions for platform images start at 600 x 513 px. It is OK to go larger, but ensure you retain the aspect ratio. Don't go smaller. Dimensions for clear logo's and device images are "As big as possible". They must be 24-bit PNG images with transparent backgrounds. Dimensions for box art is platform specific. Dimensions for fanart is whatever resolution your display uses. All are welcome. Please feel free to use the clear logo's and(or) device images if you are creating your own custom images. Requests If anyone would like to make a request for platforms we have not covered, please do so here and a contributor will fulfil the request as soon as they can. If you think any other images should be covered here, let us know. Contributors Hall of Fame The following users are contributors. Big thanks to these awesome people. @Jason @scree @portachking @Kriven @Maddoc1007 @MonarKay @oxguy3 Thanks. -
@portachking Excellent I have started working through them and I have done A to D. Maybe you could start from the bottom and work your way up. So Z, Y, X, etc. etc. Here are a few more platform banners: Here are the clear logo's A to D:

OK, got it.

Jason Carr said I can't decide if I should put the configuration options for Big Box inside of Big Box itself, or if they should go in the desktop mode's Options menu. Any thoughts all? My guess is a lot of people would like that. When you add that fanart option, I'd hate to have to go in and out of BBM to test a few different images, to see which works best. Would be easier if you could manage it right there. I would be tempted to leave it in LB too.

Ahh, I wish you told me this earlier. It is a bank holiday today in the UK and the boy was at his grandparents all day. I could of banged most of them out. Never mind though, I got some other things done that I have been neglecting recently. I will work my way though them this week. What are the image dimensions? It will probably be best to set some limitations if you haven't already. I'm guessing you get problems with the dark background of BB, that is why you add a stroke? Will you be adding theme options to BB in the future? Because you might also get issues with light backgrounds. Best to know now and account for it. @portachking You want in? @scree You want in?
-
bd000 said I was thinking, maybe you could have a random fanart from the platform as the backdrop. Jason Carr said I had that thought as well, a good idea I think. Will do. I think I may have been a bit hasty here. The problem is related to my son. We were flicking through the platforms list and we were presented with some quite graphic fanart. Something I would prefer not exposing him to at his age. I didn't consider this previously. I understand that this is not an issue for most people and it would be too difficult to add restrictions. So can I make a request to add an option for customizing the fanart image in the platforms manager please. Thanks.

Got the following error when trying to open a platform to view games: Unable to replicate so far.
-
j4syn said No problem. After some time filling in the blanks trying to follow the post about using the script I can start NeoGeo games from LB. That post needs clear step by steps directions for a noob like me. I figured it out though. Will take a look at that later. Each time I launch a game winKawaks tells me it can see its my first time running it and all the settings are at defaults. The settings seem to save per game. Is this just the way it is or can I use the same settings for every game without going through and changing settings for each game? I am unable to replicate this. You can set the default settings you prefer and each game should use those default settings unless you set specific settings per game.

portachking said Wow! So much amazing work and I've been completely out of the loop. Sorry about that, I got hit by a nasty version of a cold. Hit hard! Even after returning to work I had to stay home again today. I want to help, is there anywhere I can start or do you mind if I observe quietly for another day or two before butting my head in again ;) I am pretty much done here, now I will just fulfil any requests. Feel free to create your own set and share it. I encourage it. Not everyone will like what I have shared, so the more variety the better.

marky parky said Now when you press Escape you'll be taken back to Launchpad :) *Cough* Launchbox

@j4syn I am really sorry for the late reply, I just noticed this post. I have been having problems with the new post notification button, so some posts have slipped through the cracks. Did you get it working? You could try winKawaks for NeoGeo, thats what I use and I can confirm it works with LB.

*UPDATE* Added @scree and @portachking images to repository.
