  1. ok, here we go.

First: We need a rejections and message inbox, and notifications. With the actual system nobody check the messages and repeat their mistakes again and again. We need a separate mail and a notificator to the contributor. You have 15 rejections, check your contributor inbox. The persistence of uploading chavez or final fantasy vi gives me crazy and i lost my temper more than one time, for sure the uploader don't see the message because the system, and keeps trying again an again!

Second: We need to clean seriously the tags genre and developer/publisher. Now is a mess with tons of duplicating names in companys and a ridiculous brief list of genres that is too short to define more than 45 years of game story. Generic tags like adventure or action make jesus cry and kills kitten. We know clearly what is a fps, a beatemup, a shootemup, a visual adventure, a sandbox, a point and click adventure an go on... I really hate the brief genres list.

Third: There's no point on keep open the release date tag until we don't have regional dates or a fixed criteria, we all see day by day that someones prefer the release of their country and others put the first release. I'm tired of seeing this. Block the option or define clearly that only the first release date in all the world is mandatory, same with publishers (WE DON'T HAVE REGIONAL TAGS) BLOCK TOO.

Fourth: Keep the roms hacks separate in the database and launchbox. I don't want to see behemoth listings of supermario world hacks or have scrapping errors for this tons of material. Only allow the visibility of the rom hack and their use by a command disabled by default.

    Alex Edit:

    1. Opened issue # 349 to track this change. That's actually not a bad way of handling it.

    2. Issue #259 will track this.

    3. see issue #189

    4. issue #350 opened to track this request

  2. Mmm, ok if kondorito wants to release it here, no problem. But he had a complete set of famicom covers and in my work i see terrible things in launchbox db and i spending hours to rearrange famicom covers maybe like a fool because his set is better.

PD: HELP ME WITH SUPERNES! i can't see any contribution of snes moderating in months, and i'm really tired XDD. the database still lacks around 400 SNES/SFC games xD. a week ago i made the last clear logo and covers for the typical playable games, around 1400. And still is full of creepy 300x300 resolution scans on usa covers because many download the reconstructed ones from other sites and don't give a shit about here XDD. I can't remember the hundreds of hours i expend with this fucking console, and deleting again and again the chavez and final fantasy vi aditions of course.

  3. No. I asking for the famicom art the post before. Simply, i'm arguing that if people in hyperspin forums don't ask to borrow art from our database, we maybe could do the same. I understand the point of some limitations in forums to avoid only leeching others work without doing a shit, but i'm not this kind of dude. I'm starting to share my work on hyperspin fe to have access to packs like the one i asked for that are only for contributors. I'm feeling a little stupid that i share tons of art without restrictions and now i have a closed garden for their art, in the same place that many are working with. I don't feel that closed gardens policy are good for nobody. Please give me access to the famicom pack i asked for, i dont think that kondorito disagree, right now as i say, i'm working on a thread he iniciated doing famicom clear logos. See http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forums/topic/31670-famicom-wheel-art-hq/?page=16

  4. @alexis524 I see many times in hyperspin fe forums that many users are using art of the launchbox db, for example many of the sfc restored covers that i've upload. I'm right now creating famicom wheels (clear logos) and uploading on hyperspin fe and launchbox). Please share to make my job easier. I think that purchasing launchbox, paying the emumovies subscription and doing hundreds of restorations to the open LB Database are really far of considering me a scammer or a lazy one that benefits of others works without retribution.

I have access. I just asked permission from the author to share. If i get the green light, i'll throw a link up.

Good , this week i'm uploading famicom art to the database and is really hard to find good covers of some games. I'm turning crazy to find some game photos on ebay and editing and cleaning.

    Heya guys,

Aye, we're all a bit particular about how we like our games named. As a general rule, we want the game names to match the boxart, and everything else shoved into the alternate name fields.

As for developer/publisher/etc moderation, it's also on the list of things to do, but having a ticket open for it would make it feel more... important ;). *coughhintcough*

    i open a ticket a long time agooooooo. https://bitbucket.org/jasondavidcarr/gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/issues/87/consolidate-company-names-merge-or

To be honest, I find the whole "fanart background" to be the least interesting image category, and I usually ignore it altogether.

I doing the best i can to give quality and be extensive in this category, i've upload hundreds of related art and search and compose many with official HQ art with the best quality i can. See this for example. All the images are upload by me.

I have a question that's not covered in the guidelines.  Should developer and publisher be full names, like "MicroProse Software, Inc." or just "MicroProse"? I'm asking because sometimes the company or organization can change and be a completely different group, but only have changed "Inc.", "Ltd." or something similar.

developer list need merging and moderation, now it's a mess.

I’ve deleted quite a few background images myself in the past and for most of the time it was because they weren’t directly related to the game itself or broke the real life photography rule. For example like a generic picture of a real basketball for a basketball game, a picture from a different game of the same series, the picture didn’t represent the era of the game where it was released like for example an generic image with a modern 3D Mario in it for a NES/SNES Mario game, etc.

When is nearly imposible to find any classic art is valid to upload something related. If we have original art comes first.

  10. I think is mostly because deleting duplicates. And in some cases totally arbitrary because i put art very carefully using consistent art, mostly original and when is related i search the connection the very close i could get. Real life photography is not allowed as it is, but fanart creations with real image are valid. For example i've upload recently a art of a Toyota Supra Mk.IV for the game GT Racing of snes, but the game have the same real life model in the front cover and it's one of the licensed cars that appears in the game.

But i've detected deleted art from dr. franken (i spend hours to find SOMETHING about this game until i find a fan drawing, and NOW it's deleted. And a good montage on 7th saga using all the character portraits
(original art) from the manual. I've spend 2 hours to find the good quality scans, cut, edit, arrange to make it. And now it's gone. UFFFF. Please check the duplication deletions.

And art of bubsy I and II is deleted too, i have to reupload.

I don't want to say no, but that's something that's been brought up before and Jason hasn't shown much interest in it. We're not under the impression that any one of the set makers has it right to begin with. Sure we love the No-Intro set the most, but we still deviate. Alternate Names is a good way to get this across, though it's mostly for multi-regions. However, it can easily be used for this too, I just think some different classifications are needed like specifying it as an "Alternate". LaunchBox also doesn't currently read the alternate names on the Database, though that is something Jason should be working on here soon.

Yeah, to have emumovies downloads run in the right way we need this. Circo only uses nointro and hyperlist names in his service. We need to add these naming conventions, if we need to create a tag like alternate scrapping name or support name or whatever. If we don't bulk the entries with a good bunch of naming conventions we never could have a 100% perfect scrapping. CRC emulation station scrapping is good but is really slow and fails with fantranslated roms that have their CRC diferent. Is good to have the real names in a straight way using full cover content for sorting and showing, but we need to manage the needs of extra info to improve scrapping, checking one by one because errors is really naty when we are talking of collections with hundreds of games.

Hey, so I've been moderating for a while, and I've been wondering - should we start adding names on the DB according to No-Intro naming conventions? I usually curate my games with the No-Intro lists, so if we change names or at least add alternate names on the DB which correspond exactly to the No-Intro lists it should make scraping some games a lot easier.

For example, No-Intro usually names games like The Legend of Zelda as "Legend of Zelda, The", which doesn't get scraped correctly on Launchbox.

So I guess what I'm asking is - will there ever be a feature to update Launchbox DB with No-Intro/TOSEC/Redump conventions or data? Cause that would would be great for achieving parity with other game databases across the web.

My proposal as i say time ago is to add no intro names or other tipical romsets as alternate names. When we have the alternate naming use fully implemented launchbox could find the names an asign them a regional tagged (cover content fair name) to the roms. There's the more easy solution, and without this, emumovies video download service fails a lot because the guy service (circo) only supports nointro and good romset naing convention. We really need to manage and promote this. There's a lot of naming conventions, some that only differs in the use of & and or other naming decisions that not are acurate with our policy of stablish naming with full cover content. If we don'd add a good set of alternate names, the scrapping could be failing to the end of time, and is very frustrating the need to check one by one all the hundreds of games that not scrape correctly.
