  1. Drybonz said I like the design on the filters pages. *edit* On a side note... I'm guessing the guys over in the original "all killer no filler" thread at BYOAC will be very interested in this now. Speaking of the BYOAC All Killer list the Classic list has been completed. At a quick glance it doesn't look like anything is in it that isn't already in the other lists but it is there and I have attached an up to date pack downloaded off the forums over there.
  2. Yeah I didn't know either. Too bad it doesn't do anything to better the emulation at all like maybe using a more accurate core of the mednafen pce instead of the fast. From what I could find out the SGX core is just a port of the pce_fast core, there isn't a port of the accurate core yet.
  3. I was just doing some reading over on the Retroarch forums and came across this little bit of information I found interesting. Apparently you can play your TurboGrafx / Pc Engine CD games using the SuperGrafx core. I believe there is no actual benefit to doing this in terms of emulation quality as of right now but it does help clean up a tiny amount of core / config clutter for those that may care about that. It will allow you to put all your TG16 / PCE emulation into a single core. Anyways the way you do this is go into Retroarch install folder and then the info folder. In there you should find a file called mednafen_supergrafx_libretro.info, open this file in notpad and change the following line supported_extensions = "pce|sgx" to supported_extensions = "pce|sgx|cue|ccd"
  4. It should work for Mame as well. But you can look in the Mame menu (Tab key) > Input (General) > User Interface > UI Cancel. You can have it set to 2 or more different bindings so you have Escape as well as the 2 buttons on your controller you want.
  5. That's the right approach to take Jason. CD Projekt Red and some other game devs out there have proven that DRM free is the way to go. Anti piracy schemes never prevent piracy and only piss off legit paying customers. Going full DRM free will gain the respect of people, no sense in wasting your time trying to prevent something you won't be able to. So far I love the approach you have taken with Launchbox. The free version is very feature rich and fully usable on it's own for a lot of people while the premium version just offers a couple more bonus features for convenience. I am normally a person that will go looking for the best free alternative over paid versions of software but Launchbox is so awesome I bought it and don't regret it one bit.
  6. Load up a game and press F1 on the keyboard to being up the Retroarch menu. Go to Quick Menu then Core Options / Options (depending on which version of RA you are using). At the bottom will be the region, it should be set to auto and the vast majority of roms are NTSC by default, you can force it to PAL if that is what you want. I did a quick test on Super Mario and set it to PAL and it slowed the game down to PAL speed. I hope this helps you out, i'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to PAL and NTSC stuff.
  7. They are region free. Check in the core options for the Nestopia core, at the bottom you can change which region you prefer your games to be run at, NTSC, PAL, Famicom, Dendy and Auto. Auto should be the default and it will choose whatever region the rom is set for but I believe you can force it to PAL if that is what you prefer.
  8. Another option just make it a bit more unlikely to exit accidentally is you can use the "Live" button to bring up the Retroarch menu and us that menu to exit.
  9. Yeah definitely get a 64 bit version of Windows but I highly recommend just sticking to stand alone Mame. As much of a pro Retroarch person I am stand alone Mame is the best way to do Mame. Stand alone runs better, handles controller binding per game better and the Lottes shader for Mame is awesome. Retroarch also has a problem with crt / scan line shaders in that it does not rotate them for vertical games. On a less critical note but one to consider on a convenience level is that you can get a no-nag build of Mame or get GroovyMame which has no-nag support built in if you edit the config file to turn it off. Otherwise you are looking at compiling your own build of the Mame code or looking for a pre compiled no-nag build. I have tried to force myself into using Retroarch for Mame and I just kept going back to the stand alone version. I prefer GroovyMame for its lower levels of input lag.
  10. Just for reference the following Mame cores are based off the equivalent Mame builds. Mame = 0.170 Mame2014 = 0.159 Mame2010 = 0.139 Mame2003 = 0.78 Mame2000 = 0.37b5
  11. Using just the "Mame" core without any years after it should be fine for his romset. My bet as to the cause of the sound issues is because he has less than 2 gigs of usable ram, there is not enough system resources there for RA and the Mame core to run properly. On my laptop with 4 gigs of ram I cannot use Mame through RA at all but stand alone Mame is just fine if I don't use a shader.
  12. I would like this since the rom hacking scene is so large it deserves its own category. I made my own platform section for SNES MSU-1 hacks.
  13. Yeah non-physical, I believe it was a digital only release. I always keep a few bucks on my PSN account and watch for their sales, can pick up some great games for dirt cheap if you are patient. No idea if Xbox Live Arcade does the same thing or not, don't own an Xbox but I would imagine they would do the same thing.
  14. Interesting, something to keep an eye on as it (if it) becomes available for end users.
  15. Replacing Retroarch or any other emulator as a middle layer would be a massive undertaking. Emulation coding is an entirely different beast all together compared to a front end. Retroarch itself really is not all that bad once you get used to it and the reason it has so many options within it is because of how many systems it covers and how many different end users systems it has to run on.
  16. Are you trying to use any shaders at all ? Sometimes a "heavy" shader can cause audio issues. What Mame core are you trying to use ? There are 4 Mame cores and each one is basically a snap shot of a previous Mame build. Also keep in mind that the Retroarch Mame core has a bit more system overhead compared to the stand alone Mame. Personally I would recommend for Mame to stick with the stand alone.
  17. If you like R-Type look into getting R-Type Dimensions on the Playstation store and Xbox Live Arcade. I got it on the PS3 during one of their sales for something like 3$. It's R-Type 1 & 2 and you can swap (on the fly) between original graphics and modern slick graphics, really well done.
  18. I guess I worded it wrong. I meant for me it's not important not that it's not important at all or for anyone else.
  19. Makes perfect sense to me. It's only the Famicom Disk System anyways, nothing important. For shits and giggles I went through the entire collection and there really is only a handful of games on it that is both worth playing and system exclusive so for me it's really low priority stuff.
  20. I posted about this a couple of days ago. I think Brad said he was gonna mention it to Jason and see whats up with it.
  21. I would just like to add that on my laptop with Windows 10 and only using Defender I have had no issues at all. On my main gaming PC running Windows 8.1 using BitDefender Free Edition I have had no problems with Launchbox but I have run into issues with other software at times and BitDefender flagging it when it was just a false positive. I do like BitDefender because it is so simple, light weight on the system and probably the best free AV out there but I also don't like how overly sensitive it can be at times.
  22. Yeah that's really when it sucks, fortunately for me my Saturn collection is only 16 games right now.
  23. Why do they do this ? Because they believe if they make their shit in some proprietary format people will somehow be forced into using their stuff. They think it makes them special somehow.
  24. Honestly I wouldn't worry about them too much. The red and yellow means that the emulation while it kind of works it's not really close to being perfect yet. Basically green is great to perfect emulation, yellow is ok but there are some issues that you may come across, red is the emulation is bad and not really usable. Essentially for right now using Mame outside of arcade is not really recommended. It is being worked on and someday will probably be very good to great but today it is not there yet. For consoles you are better off with Retroarch and other stand alone emulators. Some people may disagree however but I am not going to get into that argument again. Mame does an amazing job of emulating the 2D 32 bit era arcade games up into the mid to late 90s (some exceptions after that) but the later 3D arcade stuff it needs work still.
