  1. the single core clock speed is the main thing. i don't know if it takes advantage of multiple cores, but single core clock speed is most important, just like it is with most games.
  2. I'm not near my computer. Am I using that based on how I described my setup?
  3. I'm not even sure what "Coverflow" means, but I use mostly the default BB settings for the look/appearance, with vertical platform wheel and game scrolling and using clear logos for game scrolling. I have Nyny's 1080p videos for my platform videos. I have an i5 2500k, 8GB ram, msi 1070 video card, no antivirus type software running, Win 10 x64, ssd OS drive, internal Sata 3 5400 data drive where LB and games/images/videos are stored. My system pretty much runs all cpu intensive games very well. I have no noticeable performance problems with any app except LB/BB. In BB, when I scroll through the platform wheel, it stutters pretty bad. I do not want to make my BB look ugly by changing settings from mostly default to making it look not so impressive (although I did change image quality to medium). I just want the platform wheel scrolling to be smoother. And moving from platform to platform and game to game inside regular LB could be better too. My kids don't think BB works because when they press down on the xbox one controller to scroll through the platform wheel, it stutters. I have to tell them to move one platform at a time and very slowly. They don't like that. I personally use the LB gui for myself (not BB), but BB is what I'd use to show guest and on the big TV. I'm kind of on the fence about showing BB to friends though because of the stutter scrolling problem. I wish the LB gui was faster all around, but at least I can live with it. Funny thing is that Attract Mode looks cool and doesn't seem to have scrolling stutter problems. Just humans do, haha. I need to look more at game wheel scrolling, which I'm not sure about because I always seem to be so hung up on the platform wheel scrolling but I do think the game wheel scrolls a bit better. I'm assuming this has to be because of the videos loading and maybe the recent/favorite game lists in each platform view. I haven't messed a whole lot wth BB performance yet, so I plan to start having a look at some settings I might be able to try , but still keeping things looking "wow factor".
  4. You can use a simple symbolic link using mklink command to redirect your current cache folder to any other drive like your SSD. I did that when I first started using LB, but I'll tell you it didn't make much difference over having it on an external usb 3.0 drive.
  5. Everyone says it's almost entirely cpu clock speed. 6GB RAM should be plenty assuming you have some free before starting LB.
  6. Just updated to 7.8 and LOVE Playlists!! Thank you! Few questions: I don't see anyway to see the playlists a game is in, like in the game details or edit game screen? Also, I don't see an option to show the Playlist in game details for LB? Lastly, how do you remove a game from a playlist -> do you just go to the playlist and choose "Delete (yikes), cuz I don't see a right click option to remove from playlist xxx.
  7. For me, it's no big deal because the custom filters were too painful for me to use and didn't give me what I really wanted anyway. So, I'm looking forward to upgrading to 7.8 and trying out the new stuff. I always save my entire Data folder before an upgrade, so it's easy to rollback to previous version if I want to.
  8. Wow, it wipes out the custom filters with no notice or conversion for the end user? That's not very good.
  9. @gogocons, you can try typing /admin after the ip or name you are using to connect to in the remote desktop app. So, as an example, if you connect to 192.168.1.5, you can try putting this in 192.168.1.5 /admin . It should get you a true console session as opposed to a non console non 0 session ID.
  10. I've seen similar things with Remote Desktop. I think it works when you first locally log into the system because you are probably connecting up to a local console session, which seems to act more normally with some apps. For example, in a pure remote desktop non console session, a lot of apps with system tray icons don't work because those apps aren't developed to support remote desktop non console sessions, and you end up having no tray icon at all. But for the issue with LB and checkboxes, that's weird, although I have seen abnormal things with application gui's in remote desktop sessions too. If you don't login to the system locally first, you might try remote desktop-ing in with the admin switch (at least there used to be such a switch in older RDP versions, but I'm not sure lately).
  11. yeah, of course. i just wanted to make sure it was encrypted and not just obfuscated or something
  12. isn't the emu movies password encrypted in the xml file? it looks encrypted in mine.
  13. Try adding JoyToKey full path and executable to the user's run key in the registry. Open regedit.exe and navigate to : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run On the right side(pane) right click and add new string. Name it something like JoyToKey. Then double click that new name and fill in the full path like e:\myfiles\joytokey.exe You need to make sure you are logged in as the same user that you specify to run instant sheller. Here is a Microsoft reference to this: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa376977(v=vs.85).aspx
  14. i just looked up that tool on GameEx and indeed it's running under the user account. So, all the methods I mentioned to run other apps should work fine. @bonistir , let me know if you have any troubles doing what i suggested to get what you want. i can help you if needed.
  15. yeah i understand that. but just because you don't startup with the windows explorer shell doesn't mean a user isn't logged in. so, i think he can still try what i said. it's for sure doable to run other apps automatically on boot even if using an alternate windows shell. he doesn't need to manually run it from within bigbox if he doesn't want to go that extra manual step. if the alternate shell you guys are using doesn't allow that for some strange reason, there are many ways to boot right into bigbox that would not prevent doing something like this. Edit: even instantsheller needs to be running under some user. if it wasn't, there would be a lot of limitations for bigbox.
  16. If your system is actually logging in as some user to run bigbox on start (i'm not familiar with instantsheller), you can just drop a shortcut or batch file to your user startup folder. Or you can create a scheduled task, or you can use the HKCU or HKLM Run key in the registry to put the path and name of the program you want to run.
  17. I think this is just semantics. He probably just said "download" because that's how the whole upgrade process begins. I'm sure what he actually cancelled was the upgrade itself after the download, which is why I suggest a reinstall.
  18. How are you adding BB to startup? Using a shortcut or just copying the bigbox.exe file into a startup folder? And what exact folder including the full path is the startup folder you are using? Are you using Win7/8/10? Does a shortcut to notepad startup notepad if you put it in the startup folder? Does Bigbox run ok if you just try to double click on it manually?
  19. Looks like a Launchbox bug to me. As a workaround you might be able to manually add each game and browse to the exe for each game that the shortcut is supposed to launch.
  20. Just reinstall Launchbox and don't cancel next time. the last several LB installers should be in your LB download folder.
  21. Yes, you can right click each game and Edit. There will be an additional apps tab where you can specify a script, exe, or anything else to run before and/or after the game.
  22. @Rastan101, you might try looking into having Kodi launch possibly a authotkey or maybe a vbscript that actually launches Bigbox on the desired monitor.
  23. Well, it does, you can have AND or OR next to each row depending on what you pick. It may not be evident in this screenshot using ALL. But it was just an example. You can provide the AND/OR functionality in any way you want to present it because you are the master programmer Anyway...it was just a thought. Maybe later...
  24. nah, i'm afraid it might mess with my current default theme too. better if someone just knew how this feature works.
  25. Has anyone tried this? Maybe you can post what you got?
