I can't delete my Super Nintendo Platform! It keeps coming back...
cleverest replied to cleverest's topic in Troubleshooting
Thanks Jason, but I may not need to do this now...I appeared to have fixed it! YES! (if it happens again, I certainly will though, thank you) I did these steps.... (note #1 and #2 was not sufficient by itself to fix this, and neither was #5 by itself...I tried these alone and it still failed) 1. Deleted all the XML's referencing 'nintendo super nintendo entertainment system', and all entries of it in platform.xml 2. Delete the entries in launchbox for this (not the actual roms, just the platform entry) 3. Deleted all the XML's referencing ' super nintendo entertainment system', and all entires of it in platform.xml 4. Delete the entries in launchbox for this (not the actual roms , just the platform entry) 5. Replaced platform.xml with an older one. So basically nuked EVERYTHING to do with super Nintendo or the old/bad entry and then when it didn't exist in LB, reimported the proper SNES folder, creating the platform by typing it in manually since it wasn't on the list to select uring the import wizard...seems normal now and the bad platform is gone! Thank God! -
BigBox Performance and How to Make it Better

^ Same thing with me, I have an SSD as my main OS drive, although my LB is on a 8TB external USB 3 drive, connected via USB 3....(too large for a SSD...I wish...), 8GB of RAM, Core i5 3.4ghz DESKTOP.. -

Tried that too...wiped all backups out, and deleted all instances of folders and also entries in XML files... Still comes back.... When I right click a game in this platform and do OPEN game it opens up my actual game folder in Launchbox\games\super nintendo entertainment system But when I do the same thing for OPEN IMAGES...it opens up the mostly blank (just a few sub-folders in it) in the path: Launchbox\games\nintendo super nintendo entertainment system No matter what I do, this rogue folder keeps getting created shortly after I delete it... -

To confirm, I've renamed, deleted, altered every instance of the offending name in XML files......also removed, deleted inside of launchbox every instance of the platform or reference in emulators, in platform EDIT (paths to images, games, etc), in manage platforms, etc..tried also deleted all game entires in it except one to keep the playform visible...renamed the platform only, restarted...nothing... No matter what I do the same 970 games (all us snes games (and lots of super famicom games) come back into this platform each time I restart launchbox...I'm cursed! -

correction the entries are still missing from the platforms.XML thanks to the write only, I took that off and opened the XML and they are still gone..but still came up in LB...I'm totally perplexed, well goodnight and thanks again for trying! -

something is putting this old named SNES list BACK into my playlists.xml during/upon every launch of the program, I delete save it, open LB, open the XML and it's back...I even deleted the entries, made it WRITE ONLY...and it STILL DOES IT, just gives me a write permission error in LB when I click the platform to do to it, LOL! Thanks...I'm at my wits end. -

I tried removing every instance of the path: "Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System" from the platforms.XML file, carefully using notepad++ in launchbox\data\ and there were quite a few entries, I got them all..opened Launchbox... SAME ISSUE -

Import finished. I have the games in the category I wanted now (the default) named one, it is using the correct named images/games path and that is good. But guess what platform is back too? Yup, it's like a cancer...I can't just get rid of it... -

Even after LB reinstall, Super Nintendo Entertainment System still does not appear in the import wizard dialog of options...I have to type it in, yet every other platform on planet earth does... -

LOL I reinstalled LB to the same path, and it opens again with (Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System as a platform on the left with 970 (empty) game entries, full covers and all. Going to try your manual import and see what happens....but I have to get rid of this platform either way... -

Will that make launchbox stop re-creating these folders I don't want called (Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System) in IMAGES, MANUALS, MUSIC, GAMES, and VIDEOS that keep getting created over and over, no matter how many times I delete them? I don't get why this happens when there is no XML file anymore... -

I can't re-import my roms like I normally would because it's not letting me choose "Super Nintendo Entertainment System' as the platform during the import wizard...it's totally missing as a system to choose... -

one last attempt, I ran scan for removed roms, it found all roms removed and deleted them and the category (like it does when I do it manually) and it gave me an error this time...going to re-import next... -

Okay I'll try a re-import with the new settings hopefully that does it...but shouldn't I just be able to permanently delete a platform if I want? -

Weird as I'm going through and creating this I noticed sometimes when I browse each entry it pops me into the NINTENDO SUPER NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM - which shouldn't be there BECAUSE I delete it every few minutes...something is re-creating this folder....
