    Hi,

I am trying to import a MAME romset from an extrernal HDD but it's crashing Launchbox on my NVIDIA Shield.

Is this a known issue? or do I need to try something different?

    Thanks

We haven't heard of this crashing Android in a long time. Some older versions did have an issue with importing a full MAME set. I just ran a test on the latest version but all seems well, however the test involved an external SD card on a phone, and not an external HDD using the Nvidia Shield.

I'm guessing you are on the latest version of LaunchBox for Android.

There are a few different settings you can play around with during import. Maybe try and toggle on/off the "This is a Full MAME set" option and see if that changes anything for you.

It would also be nice to know exactly where in the process it's crashing for you. If you could map that out for us, that could be helpful.

We will also check our reporting system to see if we see the crash and if there's anything we can do about it for future releases (after the beta that we have queued up for sometime soon).

I guess there is no news about the new version. I hope these speed, optimization and boot lag issues will be fixed.

Don't worry, a beta 1 is coming out next week, along with a FAQ that educates users as why LaunchBox uses CPU and some things you can do about it as a user.

    Good write up

As far as Dependencies go, .NET Core 3.1 I was sure when opening LaunchBox on a new system without it install prompted you to download it automatically? Or did I imagine this lol

It doesn't always happen, it depends on the version of LaunchBox and the version of Windows you have. A lot of people message us specifically about that dependency.

Since apparently no one knows the answer to this question, and I could not get a response when I contacted support, I will just stick with the free version. My assumption is that if you go with the standard premium license, you will not get any updates after a year.

Just fyi, based on a quick glance at our support email inbox, you sent us an email last Thursday, and you got a response the next day.

thank you I would love to fix this so I can add my custom disc artwork

Can you take a screenshot of your box - front priorities for me.

Tools > Options > Media > Box Front Priorities

  7. My first guess is that the way the Quest handles apps might be a bit different from the way regular Android does, which could be why the app is getting confused when trying to parse them.

However, just to confirm, what happens if you turn off the option to Show Android Apps? Does the error then go away?

What I did is go into LaunchBox/ThirdParty/ScummVM and replace everything in here with the latest ScummVM (which gets installed and auto-updated inside LaunchBox/Emulators/ScummVM). So now it opens up 2.8. The list doesn't send the correct data (and I can't pick blank) so I start with a ScumMVM error, but then my game is in the list (in this case, The Longest Journey) and I can run it right from ScummVM. Not ideal, but it works.

Ideally, LaunchBox keeps this directory updated with the latest ScummVM, and this list is populated from the emulator's data files.

Since this thread, the ThirdParty ScummVM has actually been completely replaced with a new process that keeps ScummVM always up-to-date.

Here's a good video showing it off:

Hi! I have a small problem with my BigBox and I´m a noob. In Launchbox I scraped Screenshots for all my games, Start-screens and gameplay. Everything shows and works fine. But in BigBox only the start screens are showing, but I want the gameplay screenshots. I dont find an option to change this, am I missing something? I use the newest Version of Bigbox and the Unified Theme.

In LaunchBox, open up Tools > Options, and find your Screenshot Priorities. Move up the gameplay image types to the top of the list.

sorry for the late reply , it didn't work and as I mention if I choose another theme the images work as they should,  but not on unified redux them I want to use the spinning disc feature with the custom capcom disk I've been making, is there another theme that has that feature ?

The image does clearly show an issue with some image priority configuration. You can ignore it and get some pretty good results, but if you do want to look into getting that fixed up it let me know and I can help.

What you are seeing in Unified Redux theme is a 3D Model rendering your 3D Box Image on the front of it, which end up looking distorted like that.

I think I got it figured out to manually sort by editing the playlist.xml in data. It changed two games to 1 and 2 position in my #Playlist but kept them in order in All.

In the Edit Playlist window, after you've changed the sort to Manual, go to the Games tab, and you can move games up and down the list to your liking.

So duplicate names is a classic way to block things, but this one confuses me: when searching Oblivion for Windows, only GOTY shows up. Didn't figure out any way to  go around it. Ideas? Also, any other known problems?

    https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/376102-the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion-game-of-the-year-edition

If your game is linked to a SteamID then only results that are linked to a SteamID on the GamesDB will show up. Looks like the first link has no SteamID, which is why you don't see it on the list.

If you went and temporarily removed the application path from your game, then ran your title matching search, you'd see more results.

I made a proposal last night that this page https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/124397-super-mario-64-splitscreen-multiplayer gets deleted because it already exists here https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/85694-sm64-splitscreen-multiplayer . The creator is the same, they link to the same video, the same game got put in twice. I noticed that it's still pending while 3 accepted the change and 1 rejected it. I can't think of any reason why it'd be rejected so it got me wondering, if the change gets rejected do they offer explanation as to why?

When a change is fully rejected, you should be able to mouse over the rejected status icon to see a list of reasons why.

That's how it should work. although I haven't tested this in a long while.

    good evening

can anyone tell me how to fix this,  the default image is under the custom image, if I  switch themes no issue, I'm using the unified redux theme

    Screenshot_20241106-202023.png

Looks like you might have mistakenly either:

    1. Added 3D Box Image to your Box - Front Image priorities. You can check this in LaunchBox under Tools > Options > Media > Box Front Priorities. If it's there, uncheck it.
    2. Added a 3D Box Image into one of your Box - Front image types. If you did, you can edit the game, go to the images section, find the image and relabel it to 3D Box Image.

Hello, if I download a custom theme from within BB they work fine but any custom themes I download frm the forums and extract to the theme folder doesn't load at all so BB will default.  I'm downloading the theme zip, extracting it to the theme folder  and then in bb I apply the theme.  Bb says it was applied but nothing happens.  Any help would be great

Retro808 basically gave you the answer, but I'll try and clarify for you. I'm fairly certain the reason you are seeing what you are is because your Big Box startup view is set to Game Discovery Center, and custom themes just simply haven't created custom views for it yet. After you change themes, make sure to also switch to another section, like the platform or platform categories sections.

Not all themes have created a custom view for every view file available to them.

Thank you so much for that im pretty sure that i dont have a merged set and i have a split set, would that work?

As stated, this will only work with a non-merged set. This will appear to work with merged and split sets, but then you'll find a lot of your games will not work due to missing files. The reason it works with non-merged is because it's the only set where every file actually equals 1 full game (not including CHD files)

    6 hours ago, SLUGIE79 said:

just to be clear if im correct a merged set will have a zip folder with every region version of that game in side of it and a non merged version has a all the different region versions of that game in separate zip files?

Not just regional versions, but yes, it's sort of like that. The video I posted has a section that will tell you the differences, so it's a good watch.

    6 hours ago, SLUGIE79 said:

I’m assuming that the 20 GB is just for the zip files, and then I import the CHD is over separately

    That's correct

    6 hours ago, SLUGIE79 said:

When i copy the roms I will still have them in my original set up and I’m assuming this will work with any platform so I can just pick random games from platforms to add on there to take up less space on  the harddrive?

    Yup

  17. This will only work if you use a Non-merged set.

But, you could go to your Arcade platform, select all the games, and run the Tools > File Management > Export/Copy ROM files from Selected Games to New Folder...

It will make a copy of all your imported games into a new folder, which should work out to about 20GB.

This won't bring over your CHD files, but if you have the CHD Requred playlist you could identify which CHD games you have, and manually move over the ones you have ROMs for.

This part of the MAME video shows it in action:

Again, this will only work if you use a non-merged set.

Sorry for bumping this old thread but it never got resolved and this happens to me when I wake the computer from sleep it covers my entire screen no taskbar showing. I even have taskbar set to not autohide it still does it, and the taskbar is locked still does it. It also happens after playing some games. Not sure if it has to do with resolution or what but I checked before/after sleep the resolution stays the same on my TV.

Sounds like your issue is not the same as what this thread is talking about. You may potentially have better luck opening a new thread than necroing an unrelated thread from a few years back.

The only thing I could comment on here is that I also have my computer go to sleep, but don't seem to have the same issue as you after it wakes up.

Hey all, I just bought Launchbox to use on my Retroid Pocket 4 because I love using Big Box on my PC. I set up my emulators and loaded up the ROMs onto the device and started importing in Launchbox. My Gameboy Color games loaded in fine, even though there was missing box art and whatnot. I went to load Turbografx games and after it said it was complete and restarted....nothing changed. I couldn't really find anything online about this issue, so I kept rechecking that the emulators were set up, the ROMs are working, and so on. I tried multiple platforms and nothing further would import. It would say everything was good and showed a complete list of ROMs it found for me to approve. But that was it. No further games seem to import beyond Gameboy Color. I'm not doing anything different than I did for the ones that worked, so I'm pretty clueless about what could be wrong.

Thanks in advance for any help

Sorry to hear. I don't think I've ever heard about this issue before. I'm testing the Android app all the time, especially recently so I unfortunately don't have much to tell you at the moment as to why this would be happening just for you.

Can you take some screenshots of the Import Pages? Maybe there's something to gather from them.

After the import happens, it should be saving files under your LaunchBox\Data folders for that specific platform. I'm assuming this isn't happening, but if you can use a files app and check that could be helpful as well.

When you say TurboGrafx, I'm assuming you mean TurboGrafx-16?

Hello again Faeran and thank you as always taking the time to respond,

I have updated to 13.17 and tried to add a game today using import, and the same issue occurs.

Using the drag and drop method works fine.

Essentially no change with the version update.

    Thanks for letting us know.

If you run Tools > Download > Force Update Games Metadata

Then you go through a ROM Import Wizard, does it still stop at Saving Games...?

I turned off auto-import. So far no hidden files have shown up again. I sorted the games as a list and removed all the games that imported from the hidden files, then used audit to filter by duplicates and caught a few stragglers.

I found that some games are not duplicates but have the hidden file in the application path. The ROM filename shows ._ before the game title. These are easy enough to find with an audit. But is there a way to edit the filename in the application path or will I have to reimport the games?

I'm kind of curious why your game folders are littered with unusable hidden files.
