    Thank you,

i leaved the option "skip unplayable games" enabled and it works. However i kept disabled all the others since they seems to have no effect on total counting.

A last question about software lists and "extra" bios files (the ones not included into rom updates packages): are they necessary to play?

It depends on the type of set you have, but overall some are required and some aren't.

I'm sorry, I must be dense.

If I'm logged into the local machine as UserX and I map my server's drive using credentials for UserY (which doesn't exist on the local machine, but does exist on the server), then Windows accepts the permissions restrictions on the server for UserY. Windows itself, as well as literally every program and process running under Windows, honors those permissions restrictions when accessing the mapped drive.

    So why doesn't LaunchBox?

I'm not really saying this is your specific issue, and yeah, it's been a long time since I took my computer networking 101 class. I'm just trying to provide you with some basic knowledge of how Windows works in the hopes that it may point you in the right direction. It could be something entirely different that you are running into but it may be worth a few tests.

One way you could test this (based on your scenario), is by sharing the folders to UserX and seeing if that solves your issue. If it doesn't, then you may very well be running into another issue.

But that's what I mean: Why would LaunchBox need to authenticate at all? I could see this happening maybe if I haven't mapped the drive and instead I'm just forcing a connection to my server's IP address directly. LaunchBox might attempt a connection to w.x.y.z using the active Windows user; okay, plausible, but weird. But the drive is mapped. I'm not telling LaunchBox to go to w.x.y.z, I'm telling it to go to the Z: drive. All it knows, all it should have to know, is the Z: drive.

And if what you're positing is actually what's happening then that becomes a little more concerning from a security standpoint: Why is LaunchBox trying to login to a sharepoint without actually telling me it's trying to do so?

So, again. LaunchBox doesn't require any permissions, Windows does. You just happened to open LaunchBox using a specific user and in Windows that user comes with it's own permissions.

To highlight that point, if you hold down SHIFT and right click any application, you'll notice a new option that allows you to "Run as a different user", which allows you to open that application using another user and take on that user's permissions within that application.

The username I'm using on my LaunchBox machine is not the same username I'm logging into my server with, that's true. But, why should that make a difference if I have the drive mapped using the proper credentials? I'm already successfully logged into the server so why would LaunchBox specifically make a request to connect using different credentials?

LaunchBox doesn't make any file requests, it's Windows that does. I'm not really sure that this is your specific issue, but imagine this scenario:

You are logged into Windows with User1. Within a file explorer you authenticate to your network drive using User2 who is the only account that has permission to access those files. You open LaunchBox and you drag and drop files from your network drive into LaunchBox. LaunchBox tries to gain access to those files based on User1's permission access (since that is the user who opened LaunchBox), and Windows denies it because User1 is not authenticated to access those files, only User2 is.

I see... Well, I'm at loss. I can't fix my Launchbox. Every option that requires connecting to LB servers gets the "Time Out" error. And no one here can help me. I scanned my computer for viruses with Esset and I'm virus free. Other launchers/emulators can update without any problems and I can download files at a descent speed. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Launchbox but nothing. I can manually put my game images and info, though...

Going to lock this thread since this thread is referring to an old issue that was resolved over a year and a half ago, and I see you already opened up a separate topic with your current user issue, which is a better place to continue the discussion.

I use the mame arcade full set importer with default/recommended settings, the only thing i change is to include all other type of games, like not playable/bootleg/mahjong etc.

Before start importing, i get something that should not be into the list, like these ones:

    image.thumb.jpeg.ff25c41c6b89ef4e7450579a232c477e.jpeg

    After importing roms:

    image.thumb.jpeg.2aa1436e0de56d9c4ed0fa72ef52af5d.jpeg

It is because i did not chose to exclude those "other type" games?

Yes, it's because you unchecked the skip unplayable games filter during import. I would keep that checked so you don't import files that are unplayable.

Hi, I have been experiencing this same issue lately. I can't fetch images for my games nor I can update my Launchbox. Is this issue still ongoing? I can download files through my browser a thigh speed and I can update Steam too. I'm at loss here.

Just to let you know the issue in this thread is not the same as what is reported by you here. This was an issue where new uploads to the database weren't being reflected in the app due to a failed scheduled process on the server, which was then quickly fixed shortly after.

  8. It's hard to say, but it sounds like you may have imported your MAME ROMs incorrectly. If you are seeing bios files and other non-games in LaunchBox, then something definitely went wrong with your import.

What were the steps that you used for your arcade import?

  9. Hi Everyone,

Beta 3 has been released that fixes the changes made by Microsoft with their Xbox / Microsoft Store authentication. At this point, Xbox / Microsoft Store integration should be fixed.

We've also progressed with the Game Discovery Center, but it should be noted that it's still heavily a work in progress. The main change to this view is that the placeholder lists have now been replaced with a dynamically generated one that will refresh upon each load of this view. New lists will keep generating as you scroll down. We still have some ways to go here, and there's still a lot of placeholders in the view that will be worked on. We are still exploring adding videos, more list types, and we've got a number of other fixes and theme related items that we have to get to.

    Here's the full changelog:

    • Improvement: Adjusted download timeout windows to help reduce download errors when grabbing media
    • Improvement: The Fullset MAME Import Wizard is now more performant on lower end hardware
    • Fixed: Rare dictionary error when using an Arrange By setting in LaunchBox's Grid View
    • Fixed: Sidebar counts for genres with subgenres weren't being displayed correctly until clicked within LaunchBox (introduced in 13.8)
    • Fixed: Various errors related to the automated import process
    • Fixed: Corrected changes to the Additional App selection in Big Box (introduced in beta 2)

I'm trying to use a view for Visual Pinball and I have videos for all of my tables.  I have them showing correctly in a custom WallView but half of them are being rotated.  Any idea what would rotate them?

If I use a Rotation Transformation to rotate them 90 degrees, it fixes it but all of the others are them messed up.

There would be nothing in the code that rotates images in this theme, so I could only guess that you may want to look at the images you are using and see if you can fix them up.

    It just says

    default emulator= Retroarch

    Default Core =  mamearcade_libretro_android.so

There is not much else there.

One issue I see right there is that the core is not pointing to the mame 2003 core. You can select it from the core list.

You'll also want to make sure Extract ROM Archives is turned off.

  12. Like CBeats mentioned, one of the main reasons you'd be seeing this is if you accidentally already imported those ROMs into the wrong Platform, or somewhere you didn't expect to import them to. The system is designed to not import the same file twice.

One way you can test this is to try and import one of the ROMs that won't import, and when you get to the second to last page giving you some options, check off to "force importing duplicate games", and then press next. If you see the game on the next page with this option checked, it means you've already imported that game and it's somewhere in your library.

No files are deleted; it's not the applications that disappear, but the possibility of accessing the section in BigBox. Everything works regularly in Launchbox. To help you understand better, my regular game page has this structure:

    GIOCA
    ESEGUI CON
    APPS/VERSIONI AGGIUNTIVE
    STAR RATING: NESSUNO
    FERMA VIDEO

    ...Etc... etc...

With the new beta, my game page becomes:

    GIOCA
    ESEGUI CON
    STAR RATING: NESSUNO
    FERMA VIDEO

    ...Etc... etc...

This applies to all games; I have thousands, I've checked many, and they all have different types of applications. Some point to ROMs, some to AHK, some to EXE, BAT, etc. They are all different, remain intact, and work perfectly in Launchbox; I haven't lost any data. However, installing directly over the previous version 13.8, everything returns to normal in BigBox. The pic I posted is of the regular 13.8

What the user was advising is when installing the latest beta the option for "View Additional Apps" is gone. I had asked to post of pic of what it looks like but the user had already reverted back to prior version and did not want to reinstall the beta. So the pic posted if of it from a prior version.

I tested the same theme on several build and I still see the additional apps option. Possibly something amiss in the translated version??

We made some educated guesses and we should have this fixed in the next beta. Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the Game Discovery Center addition LB team. Very cool feature. Couple little things:

When the game doesn't have a clear logo, the white placeholder text only gets a few letters on the screen for the preview. Any chance it could be resized when there isn't a clear logo?

Also, seeing how the setup has a similar vibe to Netflix, is there any chance the game video could play after being on a selection for a few seconds? Netflix does it as a kind of preview, thought it might look good in this setup as well.

Either way, thanks for the continued improvements!

    15 hours ago, uchuskies921 said:

Completely agree with the video previews - it would also be great to eventually have some basic configs for the discovery center, such as defining the primary asset type / display pattern that is shown for each game, configuring custom lists, choosing how many games are in each list, or choosing to include / exclude certain platforms. I assume this could all come with time when theme developers are able to take the wheel, based on your post above.

But feedback aside, I'm very excited with the direction you all are going here. This is one of the best new features I've seen from Big Box and really unlocks the ability to create a unique couch gaming experience, which has been a goal of mine. The product manager in me is super interested in understanding how you're building the "dynamic" list capabilities, and I feel like there's a ton of potential with what you're doing.

Unless we run into some kind of unpassable stop block, videos will come in the next beta.

The clear logo thing is a little strange since it's using the default fallback where the system generates an image with the text on it, but I'll take a look.

@uchuskies921 Yes, a lot of what you say will be possible for theme devs. If you do want to learn more about the system send me a PM.

It's hard to say. It would be nice to get some specific file names so we can recreate it on our side, but it is what it is.

  15. 1 minute ago, Sbaby said:

It is not necessary because in the new beta the title of the 'additional applications' section disappears for all games, even for older ones that were fine.
This is despite the setting being enabled in the BigBox options. It is not the content of the apps that disappears, but the very title of the section.

It would be important to get some files names that are disappearing so we can figure out what's going on.

I have not changed theme for years, I have never had problems with additional apps

This is how I see the additional apps section.

With the new version of lb, I don't see it at all, it doesn't exist in the list

In this screenshot, can you list the file names of all the files here that they are pointing to.

There is a bug present in all versions, it is not very important, but it is annoying.

When editing a system that points to a rom path that doesn't exist, Launchbox exits directly. For example, if we have an External HDD but we do not connect it, when editing a system/platform, it gives an error, it says that the directory could not be created and an accept button, but when pressed, launchbox closes.

It would have to continue to editor mode and then, even if the routes are checked, tell you a message like the route does not exist and whether or not you want to continue, saving the changes, with the route that does not exist unless you decide to change it.

Thanks. This is a known issue that's been around for a long while. It's on our long term list to take care of, but most likely will not make it in this next version.

In game discovery the first wheel jumps off screen on navigating right, like you've got to the end after only pressing right once.

Thanks for the confirmation. This would happen if your list contains only a handful of items. It will be fixed in the next version.

  18. Hi Everyone,

Beta 2 is out with the start of a new feature inside of Big Box called the Game Discovery Center. This feature is still a work in progress, but can be accessed in its current form from the System Menu. The idea of this feature is to be a dynamically changing list of lists that provides users new ways to explore their own library of games. The view is fully themeable, but we recommend that theme developers hold off for now as the XAML code contains a lot of placeholders.

The next beta should contain new types of lists while making the lists more random and dynamic (instead of the static ones we have in place for now).

Here's the complete changelog for beta 2:

    • New Feature: Big Box has a new view called Game Discovery Center, which allows you to discover your games in new ways. Access it through the system menu, or optionally make it your startup view
    • Improvement: Added a View Additional Documents menu option to Game Details in Big Box
    • Improvement: LaunchBox will now scroll the selected item into view when a side panel is hidden/unhidden
    • Fixed: Epic Game Store re-authentication time-out period has been increased for slower internet connections
    • Fixed: Issues with the Theme-specific Background Music (introduced in beta 1)

Thanks for the new beta. I'll try it out and reports bugs and idea for improvement. If I may, 2 of the bigges issues I would like to be fixed if possible is the scrapping issue - crash every time their is a lot to scrape - and the import of media from pc by directly copying folders to the android folder - if possible of course and if clear enough. Expect that it is a great piece of software. Thank you again :)

Ps: I will also reports others bugs and ideas for improvements:)

I'd recommend if you haven't already to open a separate thread and provide detailed information about your device, your LaunchBox library, your import settings and anything else you can think of that would help narrow down why you'd be seeing this.

  20. Hi Everyone,

This post is reserved for anyone willing to help us with LaunchBox for Android 1.12 beta releases. You can opt into the beta releases in the app by going into Options and enabling the Update to Beta Releases option. Then restart the app and follow the steps.

    Full Changelog: https://www.launchbox-app.com/android-about/change-log

For people that are either on Beta 2 or Beta 3, you will find that your update will freeze on the prompt that starts the LaunchBox update. If this happens to you, use a files app to navigate to your LaunchBox\Updates folder and install the latest apk file you find in there (which at the moment is beta 4), and you should be good to go.

Beta 1 contains the following changes:

    • LaunchBox now keeps track of your games' play time automatically. Use your LaunchBox Games Database account to sync play times between all of your Android and Windows LaunchBox builds.
    • The official Citra Nightly and Citra Canary emulators are now fully supported
    • The PX68k, Citra, and BSNES RetroArch cores are now available for Sharp X68000, 3DS, and SNES respectively

    Beta 2:

    • RetroArch can now be automatically downloaded and installed when launching a game (if it's not installed already); this makes it super easy to get up and playing without the need for a user to set up RetroArch separately
    • RetroArch cores can now be automatically downloaded and sent to RetroArch when launching a game (if the core is missing)
    • A Manage RetroArch option is now available in the root menu, which allows you to download, install, and update RetroArch, and all its cores, with a touch of a button
    • An "Add Downloaded Core..." value has been added to RetroArch's Default Core option. This will allow you to choose from core files that are placed inside of the following folder: \\LaunchBox\Emulators\RetroArch\Cores
    • Play Time Tracking no longer requires notification permissions (however, it is highly beneficial to grant it)
    • You can now sort by play time
    • The following emulators are now fully supported: MAME4Droid 2024, Yuzu Early Access
    • The Melon DS RetroArch core is now an available option for the Nintendo DS platform
    • PPSSPP Gold will now launch on certain problematic devices (like the Odin 2 Pro)
    • Menu text will now size dynamically based on a user's resolution and DPI settings
    • A rare crash has been fixed caused by attempting to load an image that does not exist
    • Turning the Cloud Sync feature off and on again would sometimes cause incorrect changes to local sync data

    Beta 3:

    • Small change to some default theme views which help with background fade displacement issues on select devices
    • Many navigational crashes have been fixed across the app

    Beta 4:

    • Fixed issue where the app would freeze during the update process (introduced in beta 2)
    • Pressing No when asked if you would like to install RetroArch will no longer try and launch the game
    • Fixed a crash caused by video playback that may happen to some users when returning to LaunchBox after the RetroArch install process

Thanks to all who are willing to help us test our betas.
