When I try to start the game with Citra MMJ (Storage Access Version), it seems to crash.

Are you able to open a separate thread for troubleshooting purposes. Remember to include the device you are using, the Android version you are on, and any other pieces of info that could help narrow down what you are seeing, like what happens if you launch the game directly from Citra MMJ (Storage Access Version), and what exactly is happening when you are launching from LaunchBox.

Interesting they're not supporting Windows 8.1 when the site clearly states Windows 8.1 is still supported.

    Supported Windows Platforms

LaunchBox is currently available for Windows 7 and higher. Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11 are fully supported. Windows 10 or Windows 11 are recommended for the best and most performant experience.

As Jason stated in the other thread, this was an unintended side-effect of third party libraries we were forced to update. We will update the website accordingly to match our most recent version.

I like the new Discovery Center feature a lot. Great job!

However, you have assigned on screen preset buttons assuming we are all using an xbox controller with "A and B" on the bottom right.  This is not applicable to a custom arcade cabinet user such as myself. You need to make these buttons customizable.

    Thanks

    Nick

At the moment we made sure to make this completely themeable, but that does mean in order to get your own custom buttons, you would need to make a copy of the default theme and then swap out the images that are under LaunchBox\themes\[theme name]\images\Controller

Thanks! ScummVM is one of those things that always gets pushed down the list, but we do have it on the list to tackle at some point!

I'm glad to see these improvements. We would also appreciate more speed in scrolling games in Big Box.

While there's technical limitations here, we are always looking for ways to increase performance and stability.

I really liked the update as soon as I saw I renewed my license and I even upgrade it but when I updated my launchbox the app didnt work anymore, even making a new installation didnt work for me

Hope someone can help me with that

I would open up your own thread with as many details about your computer and your LaunchBox build as you can think of.

Just noticed a bug with the new update (great update by the way).  If you go into the Discover screen, select/move onto something that plays audio, then go back to the Platforms view, that sound file from Discover remains playing in the background until you close Bigbox/Launchbox down.

Thanks. We'll look into this one.

  6. I don't believe the Steam API has that level of granularity, but if you turn on the automatic import functionality under Tools > Manage > Storefronts, that comes with a sort of black list option. After the first automatic import, you simply delete the games you don't want to see in LaunchBox, and they won't ever be automatically imported again. If you accidentally delete a game you shouldn't have, you can then run through the manual Steam import wizard to get it back.

Yes actually Pure is my base theme that I've been experiencing crashes with. But I've experienced the same crashes with the others though. But that's good to hear about the crash dump feature, maybe I'll wait until then and how it clears up in the meanwhile

Do you use the game statistics syncing feature? If you do, what happens if you turn it off?

  8. The search window is a theme specific thing. It's because you are using an out-of-date theme. You can go into the theme's View folder and delete the old Keyboard view file and that should fix it, or you could use the author's updated version of the theme.

Like I mentioned in the beta thread, I tested this across a number of scenarios, but was unable to recreate it. I should have a laptop with those low specs to test on if I can find some time. I'll see if I can break it like you are seeing.

Add me to the list of peeps who are having issues with this latest build (13.0-beta-5).

Specifically I'm having issues with 3D boxes and their scaling, I immediately noticed they were too small when viewed using the Default theme in coverflow or coverflow with details view. which you can see in the image provided for yourself. Also noticed some crazy scaling issues in the "Light" theme as well.

Sure hoping this can get sorted out toot sweet. ^^

Beta 6 should fix what you are seeing.

You may want to open a separate thread where some discussion and troubleshooting can take place for this issue for you. Remember to add as much details as you can about your hardware and your LaunchBox setup.

  10. Beta 6 is out with the following:

    • Re-added the Achievement Profile input mappings in Big Box
    • Reduced API calls when loading the RetroAchievement leaderboard
    • Fixed: Rare crashes with the automatic storefront imports
    • Fixed: A Game Discovery Center list issue when a user had not yet played a game
    • Fixed: Game Discovery Center sometimes not displaying the next list until selected
    • Fixed: Camera positioning of the wheel for some Big Box views
    • Fixed: Navigation bug in Big Box's RetroAchievement profile when the user had no recent activity
    • Fixed: When combining games, games imported from Amazon Games or Xbox import wizard didn't generate the correct additional application name

  11. I only read part of this, so hopefully I'm getting what you are wanting to do correct. If you are wanting to always have Arcade selected when you open Big Box, you could change its sort title to something that forces it to the top of your list. That way, you are always seeing it when Big Box loads.

I have found a small bug (not sure if it is was caused by this update or a previous one): When manually merging a game from Amazon Games with another one (from Steam, Epic, etc). The "Install Amazon Games Version..." name gets replaced by "Install  Version...".

    image.thumb.png.a3cda685df0768102ab984e79238c697.png

It's possible it's always been like this. Hard to say, but we'll look into it.

    11 minutes ago, Vader said:

Don't know if this is beta related, but I found couple of issues that I think are worth noting:

    1. There seems to be an issue with the search by letter option on big box. I have tested this on several themes, and all seem to have the same issue. When scrolling through the letters on the search by letter widget, sometimes the letter you stop at does not match the game shown. For example, if I stop on the letter "A", the game I get is Cabel, instead of an "A" lettered game. Etc.  Below are screenshots showing this error on 4 different themes. This seems to happen while fast scrolling threw the letters.

    2. To see if this issue was related to my install of launchbox, I re-installed launchbox from scratch. After doing so, I noticed that the search by letter error still existed but at same time I noticed another error. This time, on the recent games section of the default big box theme, I noticed that there was one game already on the list, even though I have not played any games with this build yet (see 5th screenshot). Also, while the other boxes remained un-populated (no box art), if you click on any of the other "empty" boxes, it takes you to a game anyways. This list is supposed to be clean, isn't it?

    Screenshot 2023-12-12 110320.png

    Screenshot 2023-12-12 110703.png

    Screenshot 2023-12-12 111139.png

    Screenshot 2023-12-12 111757.png

For your first one there, it's possible that's how it's always worked. If your list doesn't contain a game with the letter you have landed on, the game it remains on is the one that came before it. It's also possible you may be experiencing some lag with it, causing some errors with where you are landing, but I just did a quick test on my slow mechanical hard drive build across a number of themes, but things seem to be working as expected.

Your second point is also as expected. It populates itself first with either recently added games or recently modified (I can't remember which one at this moment), to make sure something appears there right away. Then your recently played games will quickly take over.

    Thanks for the reports.

    Hello,

I've tried the latest stable and beta releases of LB and both crash when scrolling past a game in my library that hasn't been properly scraped (missing media, etc.). I'm running on an Ayn Odin 2 Max using internal storage (not SD). Everything else works perfectly, but this is driving me crazy. I've tried to edit the metadata and import the media for those ROMs, but the changes never stick. I checked the log files and there aren't any errors. LB just crashes to my launcher with no error messages.

I've tried a couple other front ends and none of them have this issue with the same ROM sets, locations, etc.

    Thanks,

    mrw1986

Thanks for the report. I know we have one dev that has the original Odin Pro, and the Odin 2 Pro, but hasn't experienced this issue.

What happens if, while inside of a game's view, you click on the top-right menu option and download all missing media? Do you still see crashing when you navigate around that view?

  14. 22 hours ago, cult said:

Per request, I've been asked to open a support thread on this issue. I've getting consistent frequent crashes when attempting to scroll through All Games view under any Console with this release. Seems to not be tied to any of the themes as its happening in the default theme & custom themes.

    Some additional info:

    Device: Samsung Fold 5

OS version: One UI v6 (although encountered same issue with v5)

This seems to also be occurring with console/devices which have been scraped either with the Launchbox Windows app along with the scraper utility from the Android version.

Curious though, could it be because the app cannot keep up with loading artwork when scrolling? I'm not sure if the code has a local cache that contains artwork or it just loads from the local pngs obtained from the scraper but was wondering if that might be a root cause

Please reach out of you have any suggestions or need additional info - Thanks for your help

Interesting that you are receiving these crashes on a Samsung device. Although I've never used the Fold, I've used about 4-5 different Samsung phones and tablets and have never experienced a crash like this before using them. Leads me to rhetorically ask what could be different with the Fold in their software. It's definitely not the images or the performance loading them into the app, your device is more than enough for that. For example, I also heavily test with a Retroid Pocket 2 plus and haven't experienced a crash on that either.

I'm hoping that the next beta will shed some light on this issue. Once the next beta comes out (ETA yet to be determined), the next time you crash with it, we'll receive the crash report and see if there's anything in there that may explain what you are seeing.

In the meantime, can you use a theme like Pure and see if you get a crash while navigating around?

Greta news for the B2. Thanks for the teasing :)

To answer to your question I'm leaving LB does what it has to do without touching anything.  It crashes when I'm adding a new folder an/or when I run a "download all missing media". Sometime I even try to go step by step only downloading some medias (not all media at the same time) but as soon as there is more than 100 roms to scrap the chances of crashing are increasing rapidly.

Any log anywhere that I could send you ?

Thanks for the input. The next beta will include some better backend tools for us to hopefully track this stuff better. Let's wait for that to come out and then the next time you crash we'll get a report for it that will hopefully clue us into what's going on.

Thanks for the update LB team. For whatever reason, the Game Discovery Center is having issues for me. Once I scroll down about 5 or 6 times, the options don't show up, and all I see is the background. It seems to consistently be a problem once I get to the Compete for High Scores tab.

Thanks. We were able to reproduce that navigation bug and we'll get it fixed up.

As far as why you are not seeing any Achievement information, that's still unclear. You could potentially try and reset your RetroAchievement webAPI, then update it in LaunchBox and see if that changes anything for you.

As of beta 5 the auto populate issue I had mentioned still exists.  I'm sure you guys may not have had time to look at it, but no one had replied about it so I'm just posting this feedback in the event that you thought it had been fixed during the beta updates.

I did a few tests but aren't seeing anything out of the ordinary with regards to the auto-pop system. We also haven't touched this system in a very long time. Can you open up a separate thread and show your exact playlist rules, what games you are expecting to see, and what games you are seeing instead.

    LB beta 5, default theme:

    • testing RA account in the tools->options->integrations takes 20 - 30 secs in beta 5 (2 secs in beta 4)
    • scanning for achievements stalls for a minute before starting in beta 5 (instantaneous start in beta 4)
    • scanning for achievements bar no longer shows progress or file names while scanning in beta 5 (worked in beta 4)
    • Retro achievements section not showing up in game details sidebar on the right in beta 5 (worked in beta 4)
      • Do we need to do a full scan again for beta 5?
    • Retro score window opens and just sits at "fetching information" for 10+ mins (worked in beta 4)

Really enjoying having achievements working in BigBox again. Also, the Discovery Center updates are outstanding! Nice touch letting us bind it to a controller button. Would you be able to bring back binding the achievement profile to a button? I didn’t see it as an option anymore. Thx.

Interesting feedback. Between the two betas nothing was actually changed code-wise when it comes to the RetroAchievement integration, so my best guess is that their API may have been getting hit harder the second time you tested with beta 5.

Good to hear about the Discovery Center.

Is there a possibility to pause Cemu?

When i use the pause menu, it works, but i can hear the sound of cemu underneath continuing to work, also sometimes when i start cemu i keep hearing the sound of bigbox underneath.

Just tested this on the latest experimental build, using the default settings in LaunchBox, but the emulator paused just fine.

In LaunchBox, you can edit the CEMU emulator, navigate to the Pause Screen section and make sure you have "Suspend Emulator Process While Paused" and see if that helps.

I'm also not sure if CEMU itself has an option to suspend gameplay when not in focus or another setting like that. Maybe they do.

I've never had Big Box continue to operate after launching an emulator, so unfortunately, can't help you there at the moment.

  18. Beta 5 is out with some further fixes to this morning's beta:

    • Improvement: The new Xbox login will now automatically attempt to re-authenticate you when your token has expired
    • Fixed: Button mappings not working when navigating a manuals from the Pause Menu
    • Fixed: Incorrect RetroAchievement header in LaunchBox's Default theme's expanded overlay
    • Fixed: Crash caused in Big Box's Platform Categories section, when entering into a category using certain themes

We are hoping that this brings us close to a release candidate here, with an official release pending shortly after. All feedback with this beta is greatly appreciated.

Besides that the return of the RA API works flawless for me . Thank you for the latest Game Discovery Center. I have fun at discovering Games from the same Game Studio I didn't knew about

  22. Hi Everyone,

Beta 4 is out now with the final changes to the Game Discovery Center, including more dynamic lists and the last edits to the theme files (including video support). The theme files are now ready for any curious theme dev to explore. We also turned back on RetroAchievements and so far things look good with it. It would be beneficial for any RetroAchievement enthusiast to test this beta and make sure things are working well on their end.

    • Improvement: A myriad of changes to the Game Discovery Center to make it even better, including video support
    • Fixed: RetroAchievements API is back up and the existing functionality has been re-enabled within LaunchBox and Big Box
    • Fixed: (No-SubGenre) Genre Sidebar filter now shows the correct counts in LaunchBox
    • Fixed: Added more logic to help with those pesky Xbox auto-import errors
    • Fixed: In the Big Box Default theme, the "View Game Details" text binding will no longer show if already in the Game Details menu

Bug - still in new beta :

    - I tried to add Watara Supervision. Scan is OK, I have the import message process OK, no problem but the system is never displayed. Tried multiple time without any luck so far.

scrapping : it seems to work a bit better in this beta - I was able to scrape my entire Finalb folder. but it crashes (launchbox close and goes back to andoid) after trying another system (megadrive, Snes...). still very unstable but better :)

    feature requests:

    - could you split mame and FinalB instead of all going to Arcade section ?

    - could you add a "refresh folder" feature when adding new games to an already existing section.

    - could you also add Amiga 1200 and CDTV and MD  SU

    - when adding a favorite game - could it be included directly in the corresponding system section (for ex. in, megadrive if it is a megadrive game) instead of one bulk with all system mixed favorite section.

    - when auto downloading missing media could you add an option to also download videos ?

    - possiblity to copy / paste (and then use) the video / media from pc ?

Thanks. I tried to recreate your issue with Watara Supervision, but in my tests they imported and played just fine.

I'm also glad scrapping was better for you, however, that's interesting since we haven't changed anything with that in this beta.

Love the requests, but if you don't want them getting lost in a beta feedback thread, you may want to open up an official request, top menu here under HELP & SUPPORT > REQUEST A FEATURE

Hi, this beta keeps crashing when scraping collections for the missing media, no error or anything, it's just downloading and quits.

I tried selecting only one type of image, but the same thing happens and always at different points.

The PC version, if you encounter any errors, they are reported, but the program continues.

Something similar would have to be implemented, if there is an error when downloading, ignore it and move on to the next one.

    Thank you.

Nothing was adjusted in this beta with regards to importing or scraping games. You may want to open a separate thread where you can get proper support with more information about your device and circumstances.

This beta hasn't changed any of this code, so that's a curious thing. You'll want to open a separate thread where proper troubleshooting can take place. Don't forget to list your device, Android version, and anything else about LaunchBox that may be useful. I'll try and reply in that thread when I get some time.

By the way, the developer of Redream wrote a small note agreeing with the above assessment.  Is there a chance Launchbox will ever work with Redream or will this be a stalemate at this point?

Thanks for reaching out to the Redream team. It's true that Scoped Storage complicates matters. It requires a Frontend to use a very specific file manager by Google that's not really controller friendly (the emulator itself also has to use it). Since scoped storage became a thing, a lot of emulators have built in frontend support into their emulators, essentially bypassing all those complicated steps for Frontends to go through to make launching into the emulators a possibility. Some emulators haven't yet done that. I'm guessing Redream is one of them, although I haven't tested it in a while. It's not out of the realm of possibility that we go through the process and get that file manager working inside of LaunchBox. It wouldn't be the most ideal solution for the user with the navigation challenges inherent with it, but unless the emulators themselves introduce specific frontend support, it may be our only option. We will have internal discussions about it, but it may take some time before a decision is made on this.

    Hey everyone,

I appreciate the effort put into the new LaunchBox for Android 1.12 beta releases. The addition of automatic playtime tracking and the synchronization feature with LaunchBox Games Database is a significant step forward in user convenience. It's great to see that the official Citra Nightly and Citra Canary emulators are now fully supported, broadening the range of available emulators.

However, I would like to suggest a more transparent communication approach regarding the potential bugs or issues users might encounter during beta testing. It's crucial for users to be aware of any known issues and possible workarounds to ensure a smoother testing process. Additionally, a dedicated section or thread for feedback could be beneficial for users to share their experiences and report any issues they encounter.

Thanks for considering these suggestions, and I look forward to the continued improvement of LaunchBox for Android.

    Best regards,

    Global Touch LLC

The best I can do here with more transparency is explain what we do. Whenever there's a report of a bug, we go through a lot of testing across our many devices to see if anything can be recreated. If not, there's little we can do to move forward. There's nothing that has been reported that we haven't internally tested ourselves. The issue comes with the amount of different devices and flavors of Android that could potentially make things difficult to solve. At this stage, there's no global bugs that need to be reported (bugs that affect everyone), but there could be many device specific bugs that few people experience or user specific issues.

If a user has a specific bug, we ask that they click on the HELP & SUPPORT > REPORT A BUG menu items at the top of this page, and open up a ticket for that particular crash. This allows us to keep track of them all more easily, and keeps things organized for our small team.

We will also be expanding our internal crash reporting tools in the next update, which should help things a lot, especially for device specific issues that users may come across.

@faeran why asking for feedback if you don't answer to our messages. We are willing to participate to improve the Android version of Launbox (and there is a big room for improvement)....

Something to keep in mind, just because we don't answer everyone's messages, we are always reading them, testing everything we can, pushing forward everything we can, along with everything else we do behind the scenes. We are sorry if we can't get to a particular thread or message in a good amount of time, or if a particular message looks to be ignored. They are most definitely not.

In general though, this beta thread should mostly be used for beta specific feedback on features and changes that get introduced based on our changelog. Sometimes, it's hard to know the difference, so if you don't know, it's better to post. However, hopefully this post helps provide some better places for things like feature requests and user specific issues.

Thanks to everyone who has provided feedback up to this point. We are hoping to have a beta 2 out, but an ETA on that is still undetermined as there's a lot of work left to do on it.
