Hi neil. I'm sorry for bumping this old thread, but I'm having the same problem and for the life of me, can't get LB to launch my Saturn games with the Mednafen core. I saw your suggestion to add the "hw" to the command line, but I don't understand.....where exactly do you add this line? I tried adding it next to the "-f" under the "Extra Command-Line Parameters" column, but nothing happens and the game won't launch. Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm desperately trying to get LB to launch RA with this darn Mednafen(Beetle) core.
After making sure your games work on Retroarch without Launchbox, go to Launchbox's Menu -> Tools -> Manage... -> Emulators -> Retroarch -> Associated Platforms
On Sega Saturn click the core column and select the Saturn's Mednafen core (mednafen_saturn_libretro).
It should look like this:
-
I'm currently on my first playthrough of Luigi's Mansion on the Retroarch core and it runs as good as the standalone emulator. The Dolphin core compatibility it's pretty close to Dolphin nowadays.
-
Add the pdfs files as an additional app and they will work like a manual.
-
I only use MAME for Arcade games (I actually use the Arcade64 fork build), any home system that is worth a damn have a better emulator than MESS or MAME, the ones that don't are obscure platforms that are not worth it in my opinion.

Take the clock out, a program that is for having fun and killing time doesn't need a constant reminder of the time.

Which theme and view are you using in this instance?
Do you still get the same crash when using either of the default themes?
I'm using the Unified Theme, but it happens with any themes, since Beta 5, changing the Default View to anything other than Platforms And Platforms Category crashes BigBox and makes it unable to boot afterwards.
Update: Beta 7 fixed the issue in the paragraph above. It's working perfectly now. 👍

I think I've found the cause of my issue, it was the All Games view, when you set that view to be the startup view BB stops responding, and if you had it to start on All Games before updating to Beta 5 and 6, BB fails to boot.
Also, on Beta 4 when you press escape and you are in the All Games view (and have it as the default view), the options menu appears but controls don't work, you have to press escape again before you can navigate it. -
Nothing changed, same issues in beta 6.
-
I only use what comes with Windows. Windows Defiler or something.
-
I just tried beta 5 and BigBox doesn't even work now. It loads the startup video, plays it for a couple of seconds then abruptly closes itself. Bigbox.exe shows on the task manager hovering around 150 MB. I have to manually kill the process to even be able to Launch LB or BB again.
I tried deleting BigboxSettings.xml in case it was a settings issue and nothing changed. Tried it on my main computer running Windows 11 and on a Laptop running a fully updated Windows 10 with the exact same BigBox (Onedrive folder sync) and same thing happened.
I ended up going back to beta 4, tried it after all this and boots up fine. -
Since version 1.7.0, PCSX2 supports built-in per-game configuration. There's no reason to use that plugin now.
Refer to this thread for more info:

I wasn't think about removing the other metadata but making it smaller, maybe a mixture of text and icons, you can put the full metadata in the details view.
-
The arrow on the left and right of the cartridge are too busy, maybe remove the circle around them and make them bigger.
Also, not a big fan of colored button prompts and colored controller icons for a minimal theme. -

One thing I noticed while having VLC chosen as the media player in BigBox. When you exit out of a game, the game video autoplays on the game details screen but then when you exit out of the game details screen into the regular game view the video does not autoplay until you move the wheel to another game. The videos do autoplay correctly however if you have WMP chosen as the media player or have the "Skip Game Details Screen" chosen as an option. This might have been going on for a while and did not notice since I have skip game details screen chosen most of the time.
This happened to me too. I started noticing it after updating to this beta.
-
Not minimal enough. The metadata between the title and the overview takes too much space.
-
It only took us 3 and a half years to find your game LMAO
Anyway, congrats.
-
I've noticed that on BigBox the videos don't resume playing like they used to after you view a game's images in fullscreen or enter and leave the details view, the video that was playing it's paused until you change to a different game.
-
Seems to me that you downloaded a prebuilt LaunchBox that someone else setup. You'll be better off starting from zero and with a legitimate license, otherwise it's very hard to pinpoint the issue.

What ethical purposes?

This is great and I thank you, but why aren't the Wiiware videos zipped up? It would take too long to get them one by one.
Good question. My guess is that they want you to pay for the premium membership to be able to download them with minimum hassle.
In my case, I paid the lifetime membership a long time ago so I never had to worry about that, I can either download them easily with Launchbox or through the FTP. They got me good.

Hey alright
-
Download Arcade64, extract it to MAME's folder, run it and then select the CHD folder filter on the left side panel.
-
Instead of getting GDIs and then convert them yourself to CHD, you could just get the CHD instead (they're probably in the same place you get GDIs).

The thing is, Yuzu is a fairly new emulator and is likely to stop working and responding, specially with newer games and the WinClose fails to quit the emulator when that happens, you have to call the Task Manager and close it from there, something you can't do with a controller or an arcade stick.

Oh boy if you think the SNES looks bad, wait until you see the Atari games...
