Moderator Guidelines and Contributor Rules

Agreed on all points @CADScott and @SentaiBrad. If we can update the official rules with those details, I'd appreciate it. I'm all for some hardcore restrictions: - Must be at least 1280x720 - Must not be a real life photo (or unrelated) - Must not be porno (lol) - Must not be just a screenshot (although modern games' screenshots might work well if doctored with the game's logo on top or something) I can update the uploader tools eventually so that the official rules are all right there on the page when you do the uploading.

Another issue I am seeing quite a bit is people changing the release date to be the North American release date, from the original Japanese release date, which is most often earlier. Unless there is a way in the database to have all different regions release dates, I feel the date should be the first date of release anywhere in the world, rather than for a particular county.

Yep that is in the guidelines, and there will be regioned dates in the the future, but for now yea I've been denying those for the first date. If the first date is N. American, then so be it.

I would like to remind everyone to try and follow the Guidelines as best as possible. I requested the deletion of two image with nudity and someone rejected those. Those need to be accepted. As well, someone tried to split Gran Turismo 2 in to two games, that is 1 game. There have also been a few duplicate editions of games. When in doubt, please make a quick search on the Database.

I had to reject the majority of the "Fan Art". Mostly because I couldn't find them at any credible source or it was clearly not fanart and/or was ambiguous in regards to the game. I have accepted a few though. My main source for fan art verification is DeviantArt, Google is Secondary. I could find most of the submitted fan art I've moderated in advertisements.

If it's related to the game and not a real image or screenshots compiled from the game, then I approved it. I approved a bunch of Castlevania fan art that looked pretty good and approved the deletion of just straight screenshots as fan art. It's kind of subjective, but we still have our guidelines. There was just a straight image of Bugs Bunny, that is kind of a toss up because it's a Bugs Bunny game. There was a shot of a real Basket Ball game for an SNES Basketball game and I rejected that one.

At a certain point we just trust our mods. Make a judgement call. You can either deny it and hope the user comes back to re-add the game, or you can wait for the game to get added then change the metadata yourself. It will be easier to deal with when we have all of the features available.

Thanks guys. In the future we may provide more granular approvals for particular fields with added games. As it is right now, I would suggest accepting anything that isn't outlandishly poor or incorrect. If it's just the wrong release date (for example), or the overview is poor, or something of that nature, I think it'd be better to accept it so that it at least gets added to the database, especially if it has a decent image attached. Someone will certainly notice it later and correct it if need be.

Really good. Yeah, I agree. If there's nothing there at all, might as well put something in. Not too sure about metadata but I'd definitely notice if an image was bad or doesn't fit the criteria at all. On another note, I strongly believe if a game is going to use its Japanese name it should display its Japanese Box Art. Plus it wouldn't be a bad idea to have separate Ids for different regions since they are technically different games. I'm not sure if it's appropriate to put this here but I thought it would be a good idea. [sp_show_poll id="7"]
