xzotic
Now that Launchbox has LEDBlinky support you could contact Antos who created the excellent HyperMarquee program here: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/files/file/7397-hypermarquee/ Having Marquees (and other game information displayed across multiple monitors) as well as the right colored buttons lit up through LEDBlinky makes for a really complete front end for arcade mame cabinets. If you want to see what is possible with HyperMarquee then check out my youtube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rl8NABsOtT8 (Skip to 7:55 to see it in action)… HyperMarquee captures Hyperspin ‘events’ and based on those events the program then spawns various Marquee's through their companion program “EDS” (Event Dispatch System). I would imagine that the only thing they would need to do is capture Launchbox events to trigger the EDS events. I’m sure you guys could give Antos the necessary ‘event’ information so that they could provide launchbox support. There shouldn’t be anything further to do as they already use Hyperspin’s ‘call’ to LEDBlinky to run their EDS program which in turn runs the real LEDBlinky and Hypermarquee instances. So the fact that you now support LEDBLinky should mean that they could call it in exactly the same way for Launchbox. Alternatively you might want to provide more ’native’ support, however the existing way works fine and it shouldn't be any immediate work on your part? This would bring Lunchbox yet another step towards being on parity with (and surpassing) Hyperspin features. Keep up the great work!
Jason Carr
Thank you @xzotic; I'll look into HyperMarquee. I did plan to implement that for Big Box instead of using an external application, but you make a good point that I shouldn't be reinventing the wheel unless it's necessary. MrBobC
Any additional information on this? It's probably the one thing stopping me from making the permanent switch to LaunchBox from Hyperspin.
DOS76
Marquee support was implemented in the last version it is already included in BigBox though Jason made his own solution and didn't go with HyperMarquee.
MrBobC
Okay, so I put some files in the Images\[System Name]\Arcade - Marquee folder and nothing comes up on the second screen (just copied box art, really). I have set BigBox for Screen 1 and the Marquee for Screen 2. Not sure why the images aren't showing up though. Thoughts? Couldn't find any instructions. DOS76
What you did is the instructions I have it running on 2 different setups and that was all that I had to do to get it working. Not sure why you are having an issue have you tried refreshing your image cache or restarting BB.
Jason Carr
@MrBobC I can see how that's confusing but the Arcade - Marquee folder is only for arcade games so that could be the issue if you're trying to do it for a non-arcade platform. Try using Box - Front instead.
MrBobC
@Jason Carr The "Box - Front" folder has always had images in it, downloaded by the scraper, so I'm not sure what's going on. I also refreshed the image cache but that didn't seem to help either. Edited November 15, 2016 by MrBobC
mrhappydude
@Jason Carr not sure if you caught my post on this before but a stretched lcd is basically a 1/3 LCD monitor which has been cut so you only see 1/3 of the monitor but the default display is 1024x768 but the actual size is actually ~1024x253. The settings need to include top left, top right, bottom left and bottom right to cover all possibilities. Making a custom display in windows 10 is a b*tch so this would be best. mrhappydude
@Jason Carrand if one could make custom layouts (themes) for marquees that would be awesome too. Edited November 15, 2016 by mrhappydude
Jason Carr
You can indeed currently make custom themes for the marquees. Assuming no one in the community steps up, I should come up with a custom theme for that. It should be relatively easy to tweak the XAML to work properly for all monitor configurations. @MrBobC I'm looking back at your posts and I'm a bit confused. Do you get anything to show up on your marquee screen at all?
MrBobC
@Jason Carr I am not able to get anything to show up on my marquee screen. Let me know if there are any logs or anything you might need to resolve this. Thanks!
Jason Carr
I see @MrBobC. Do you see your desktop/the Windows background on your marquee monitor or is it a black screen as expected? Are you using the default theme?
MrBobC
@Jason Carr It is a black screen with the default theme.
Jason Carr
Alright, I did some more research on this @MrBobC. The default theme should show Arcade - Marquee images as a priority and then show any configured Front images using the image priority settings. There could be any number of things going on: - Check to make sure that your platform folders are right under Tools > Manage Platforms in LaunchBox. Check to make sure those are pointed to the correct folders. - Check to make sure the Front Image Priorities under Tools > Options in LaunchBox have items checked and that they make sense. - Refresh the images in LaunchBox to make sure that the images are in fact loading in LaunchBox. Do you get any images at all when viewing platforms on the platforms screen? You should at least get images there if the game images aren't loading for some reason. If even that isn't working, then there's something else that's odd going on.
ekdikeo
hmm. say one has one of the immense Marquee packages that are available for MAME users .. how does one go about making that collection work in LaunchBox? I was trying to see if there was a way to configure MAME's native display support to do it (because really, that seems to make far more sense than having a launcher do it) but I'll settle for the launcher doing it, since Mame is notoriously difficult to work with in some respects. /noob here, and finding the number of features that are not at all obvious in LaunchBox to be fascinating. Jason Carr
@ekdikeo Should just be a matter of dropping them into the LaunchBox\Images\Arcade\Arcade - Marquee folder (or whatever folder you've customized to use for your platform). ekdikeo
Awesome. Took me a few minutes to notice the setting for "Marquee Display" over in Big Box -> Settings -> General. Looks like it works, although I'm noticing a lot of issues where the wrong art or no art is showing up in Big Box, wether it be for Marquee or main display/screenshots/box/flyers. Problem being I need to actually have the time to sit down, and make sure that it's a fault of the app versus being a fault of the artwork files being incorrect .. unless other people have seen that, and can confirm?
