13.19 Dolphin doesn't launch fullscreen anymore

I seem to have an issue, I'm not sure if its because of the new launchbox version but i don't think i had it before. When launching a game using the emulator dolpin with launchbox/bigbox, the game doesn't open fullscreen anymore. When i open the game in dolphin, it does (so the settings are correct in dolphin).

I've tried many different settings in dolpin and also explicily tried adding the cmd startup command for dolpin to be fullscreen (even though it should not be necessary because start in fullscreen is checked in dolphin) but nothing seems to work.

edit: also tried to do it directly in cmd prompt and it works there as it should as well, so it does seem to be an issue with launchbox

HI @jevcleem

Thanks for the report here. I've split this into a new topic so that we can investigate. May I confirm a few things to help narrow this down:

  • What version of Dolphin are you using?
  • Can you send a screenshot of your Edit EMulator window for Dolphin?
  • Can you also share your settings for the Startup Screen, Running Script and Exit Script sections for Dolphin

Let me know and we'll get you sorted.

Cheers,

I have the same problem.  Open in Dolphin, get full screen, use Launchbox "play" button, get a window.

Dolphin 2414
Launchbox 13.19 Regular (non big box) mode.

In the edit emulator box.
I don't have a picture but here are some relevant settings:
Emulator name: Dolphin
Applicaiton Path: Emulators\Dolphin\Dolphin.exe
Default Command line Parameters: -b -C Dolphin.Interface.ConfirmStop=False -C Dolphin.Display.Fullscreen=True -e
Sample Command: Dolphin.exe -b -C Dolphin.Interface.ConfirmStop=False -C Dolphin.Display.Fullscreen=True -e "FULL\PATH\TO\ROM\FILE"

Everything is unchecked, except "Attempt to hide console window on startup/shutdown

Startup Screen:
First 3 items are checked
Agressive startup window hiding is not checked.
Hide all widows that are not in exclusive Fullscreen mode is unchecked
Startup load delay 5 seconds

Running script is empty

Exist screen is empty (well it has 2 lines of comments)

Gotcha, thanks for that!

I think I've got this, there is a known issue atm relating to the Attempt to hide console window on startup/shutdown option. If you turn that option off, will it launch correctly in fullscreen?

Hi @AstroBob

Thank you for your attention. I can confirm the issue exists on LaunchBox 13.19 (free version), where launching Dolphin causes it to flicker:

Upon invoking the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Delete), the flickering stopped, but Dolphin (latest nightly) did not completely launch to exclusive fullscreen.

This is my Edit Emulator window  (no AHK scripts):

Screenshot2025-02-17150653.thumb.png.5a9438f30e26411958c76afadf51dd4c.png

Dolphin was able to lauch normally to fullscreen after turning off the Atempt to hide the console window option as suggested. (Note: I use the emulator config for fullscreen rather than passing cmdline args).

Hope a hotfix can be deployed as it is a stopper defect if the user did not know the specific workaround. Thanks!

I unchecked this as suggested and Full screen is again working from Launchbox (In my case it's the paid version, but I'm using the standard interface, not Big Box)

Might be unrelated, but I was getting a bit of stuttering when I launched my one test title using Launchbox with "Attempt to hide console window on startup/shutdown unchecked.

Please note I did exactly one test - launched it again after directly in Dolphin without the stutter, I'd like to get some more data before I'd claim this is an issue.

Hi @AstroBob

It  looks like Supermodel 3 is also affected by this issue. Basically, any emulator that relies on the console window. Since I can't be individually checking all my standalone emulators configured in LB, is there a way to rollback to 13.18 for the time being?

Thanks for the updates folks, the team is working on a fix and we hope to have this addressed as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can follow the guide here if you want to roll back to a previous version

We'll update this post once we have a more permanent fix in place. Thanks for bearing with us here.

Hi @AstroBob

I have unfortunately deleted the contents of the Updates/ directory a while back to save some space. Is there a support email I can contact to request for the 13.18 installer from the LB  Team?

I haven't received a response from the support email, but I found 13.18 here if anyone else needs it - <removed>

Link Removed - Do not post old versions of LB.

Scanned with Microsoft Defender. Looks clean.

Sadly I’m watching here as I’m having the same issue with this update, v13.19:  Dolphin will not launch games in fullscreen mode any longer (it is an itty bitty screen floating in the middle of the monitor).

@k_rollo, I was very excited when you dropped v13.18, however LB forum moderators/bots removed the link “Link Removed - Do not post old versions of LB”

Rolling back is not ideal, as my last version was v13.12.

@AstroBob, is there I way to obtain v13.18 while we wait for the v13.19 Dolphin fix?

Thanks everyone

Just do as instructed and uncheck the Attempt to hide console window on startup/shutdown option in the Edit Emulator window and you can use the emulator as desired without any side effects (or least none that I've seen personally or had reported)

Sometimes, a rollback is warranted and seeing the myriad of reported issues with 13.19 as of late, it is reasonable to stay on a previous known stable version. LB website does not provide an official way to acquire older installers unfortunately, but not hard to find.

I'll probably wait until 13.19 weathers the storm. It's bound to have breaking changes with plug-ins here and there due to a major move from .NET 8 to .NET 9. I personally go for compatibility/stability over speed. Glad you found a solution for you.

Just to clarify, I believe the issues you're noting are with 13.19. Not 3.19.  At first, I thought it may have just been a typo. But it appears fairly consistent in yours (as well as several other members) posts throughout.  Also, .NET8 to .NET9, though there are notable changes, LaunchBox actually went from .NET6 to .NET9. Which indeed is a major move.

Ah, good catch. Thanks! My poor eyes only see .19 actually haha. But yes, it is indeed 13.18 -> 13.19 update.

That is indeed a mighty jump. I don't mind staying on 13.18 for the time being to prioritise compatibility/stability.

Hi all, good news! LB Support (Breandan) came back to me and sent me a G-Drive link for 13.18. Turnaround time is around 48-72 hours which is reasonable.

@Gaming4MyKids I checked the hash from UpToDown and they all match the original file from Support if you (or others) still need it quickly. Meaning, the file has not been tampered with.

That's all folks!
