Unified Theme Overlays Pack (+200 in 3 versions) 1.0.0

   (1 review)

3 Screenshots

About This File

Following @CriticalCid awesome Unified theme project, and so you can seamlessly transition from the theme to the emulator, this pack consists of each of the +200 system backgrounds, made as overlays in 1080p, 3 variations each.

IMPORTANT (In case you will be using these pngs with Retroarch):

  • Overlays require at least one image (.png) and a configuration file (.cfg) in order to activate them.
  • The configuration file should have the exact same name as the image file.
  • DO NOT use spaces in the filenames (for this pack you will need to remove the spaces from the file names).
  • These files (the png and its corresponding cfg) should be placed together in the libretro overlay folder.
  • In order to activate an overlay, go to the RetroArch Settings menu. Find the Onscreen Display submenu. From this menu you can activate the Overlay system and select which overlay file to display.

Example:

  • 4:3 with integer scale

  • 4:3 with integer scale and a drop shadow

  • 4:3 full screen

This is exactly what I want! I hate bezels and overlays for the most part, but these are subtle and nice. One thing though...

These are in .png, when I try to load them up in RetroArch, I go to the overlay section and try to browse but they do not show up as options to use. All the other overlays are in a .cfg file. Am I missing something?

They need both the image and a .cfg, you will need to create the .cfg.

Oh ok cool, So is there a default cfg that I can basically copy and paste for all the different platforms or do I have to manually create a txt file, then rename it to .cfg and what goes into that, I'm looking at a couple .cfg files and they look extremely complicated

The .cfg files just have 4 lines in them and are very simple. For example here is my Atari 2600 .cfg, you can just rename the file to whatever you want, then inside it just edit the ,png name to whatever image you are wanting to use.

Atari2600.cfg

Hey guys if anyone is having problems with these overlays not showing even with the .cfg file, remove any and all spaces in the file name of the .png file AND inside the .cfg file. So for example instead of Atari 2600.png, rename it to Atari2600.png and make sure inside the .cfg file, it also says Atari2600.png.

Thank you! I will add a note in the file about this.

These are great! There is some flickering that comes and goes on the left part of the atari 2600 overlay when I play a game in retroarch. Any ideas?

I think I know what you mean. Try with these (remember to rename them the same as what you have on your side).
Let me know if the issue is solved.

Thank you so much for these! they have made my Unified setup look legit

Any chance of doing some aspect ration corrections to the systems that were not 4:3 as standard? Would make this set perfect as I now want them on all my systems XD

Welcome :)

Which systems are you referring to? If they are a couple, I don't mind doing it.

Ah, I see. I use handhelds with the actual system image as the overlay, not the unified ones.

Do me a favor and make a print screen of each system running so I can get their aspect ratio and work with those screens as base, and then will send your way the unified bgs with that game space trimmed.

No worries :) I don't mind helping out, is just that I have other ongoing projects atm, so any help you can provide will speed up the process enormously.

OCD is a pain in the *head*. I have a mild one but luckily I am finding ways into tricking it, and BB helps in terms that missing media is not so visible right away with all the remaining bells and whistles on screen.

Thank you so much, I will get back to you with the other odd resolutions as I get through them, using these with Unified just makes a perfect console experience to me :)

Glad to help. And wait until Fade/Loading is implemented in BB; with these bgs and a proper system logo+loading text you wont even see the transition between BB and the emu.
